there’s something intrinsic i love about comparing usuk to romanticized symbolism throughout the history of the western world.
i love comparing arthur and alfred to adam and eve. adam the original man, and eve, his ‘helper’ who propels him even further through impulsive action - no matter the good or bad outcome, both down that spiral they shall go.
i love the symbolism behind calling england the ancient greek wife of america’s ancient rome. eg in the statement by [i think] Harold Macmillan that the British found “the Americans much as the Greeks found the Romans”. this repetition of history that can be seen again and again in the west… i love it!! one party becoming powerful in the beginning, only to be overtaken by a younger nation who eventually grows to become so obsessed with them [as seen how romantically infatuated the Romans were with Greek art, culture, land and women].
or the old and the new; i love that “in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, [might step] forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old” is embedded into the nature of the special relationship’s foundation [no matter if you agree with the legitimacy of such concept or not]. the idea that old ideas and new ones can help each other and protect each other. they don’t have to be at odds. they can save each other…
or also how it was an English engineer who redesigned the inventive nature of fuel cells, a step of innovation and invention necessary to convert fuel into energy and successfully propel the Apollo missions forward and have American men stepping foot on the moon. English invention literally helped propel America to the moon!!! England helped push America’s ambitions forward, and British encouragement helped bring his spacetime dreams to life in abundant glory!!
yo, i just really really love symbolic usuk. damn.
it’s such a powerful ship.
ok now I need a whole au about that scot warrior prince/fran Gaul princess. I need details I need the common indifference about getting married the first time they meet then the slow build to being kinda friends then.... someone breaks and they can't hide their love for eachother anymore UGH OK NOW MY BRAIN IS FULL OF IDEAS IM GONNA DIE OP
ANON ANON UR KILLING ME HERE 😩😩 this au has been giving me brainworms for so long holy fuck, you get it anon it’s about the slow burn, the pining (mainly from Alasdair) as Francis slowly warms up to him.
I’m not usually one for arranged marriage aus, I prefer forbidden romance situations personally but damn there’s something about princess Fran who spent their childhood growing up in a sunny summer kingdom forced to marry the prince of some northern tribe where it rains 285 days out of the year and snows the rest of the time and maybe it’s sunny one day of the year (their wedding day)
And of course they don’t speak each other’s language so Fran has no other choice but to assume that Alasdair is some dullard lacking wit and charm but oh how he is pleasantly mistaken…
