Sometimes you need to read something twice to get it. You might need to watch a movie three times to understand it. You might have to have that album on repeat for a week until the lyrics make any sense. You're allowed to engage with it and can keep engaging with it until it means something to you. The room was filled ceiling to wood flooring with sweating heads and drunken movements. The bass from the speakers could be heard from down the street. It was "just a reunion" and "no one was really gonna be there" is what you were told. Yet here you stood, fresh off a plane from America, struggling to find any of your old classmates.

Walking further into the club, copious amounts of perfume, wine, sweat and other mystery liquids hit your nostrils. You were scared that if you breathed in any deeper whatever was perspiring off the crowd would enter your system and give you some new sickness. It didn't seem that far-fetched, who knows what these people carried from club to club.

Some dark green cargo shorts, a red graphic tank top and Deku's old sneakers is all you had on. Course, you were only expecting maybe a handful of Class 1A's old students to be joining you. Stopping near the bar you considered texting Mina to see what was up but a record screech caught your attention.

Settling onto one of the empty bar stools, you turned your attention the stage located on the opposite side of the room. The loud music had dissipated but with the new addition of blond and red hair on stage you knew it wouldn't be long till more bass barraged your eardrums again.

Now facing the bartender, you nodded off his offer for a drink. The smell seemed to be lighter or you had just gotten used to it. Either way, if you didn't see a familiar face, face-to-face, you were gonna check out.

If you were being honest, you didn't even know why you were here in the first place. I mean, sure, you were under the impression that this was a reunion to see some old classmates and talk about your new pro-hero lives post-UA. Yet, with everything that had happened leading to your trip to America, you didn't exactly feel like seeing your old friends. If anything, you wanted to actively avoid it. But Ashido was your girl, who just happened to be very convincing.

Class 1-A's former designated dumb and dumber were both on stage singing karaoke to old uverworld songs and everyone in the crowd near the stage was absolutely eating it up. Their horrendous vocals didn't bother you but the fact that every second that passed of them singing was another second of your time wasted sure did.

"Y/n!" That ecstatic shriek of your name could only come from a certain somebody so when you turned and was met with a sudden tight embrace you weren't surprised.

"Ashido~~"

"I missed you~" She groaned, finally letting you go.

"Mmm~~" You didn't hug people but Ashido always managed to wrap you in one. "Listen if-"

"He brought Kiko." Unwrapping herself from around you, she stepped back in silence in preparation for however you were going to react.

You knew it was inevitable - at some point when you moved back to Japan you were going to have to confront the thing that was Shoto Todoroki. If it was one thing you were good at, it was running from your problems. I mean you moved across the planet just to avoid one of the biggest problems of your post-UA life.

"Ashido." You closed your eyes in annoyance, fingers rubbing your eyes haphazardly.

She paused for a moment - if there was anyone who understood the gravity of the situation it was her - and let you recollect yourself. "If it means anything to you.. He obviously still wants you. Everyone can see it and I don't think he cares to hide it honestly."

"Yo, Pinky, you said you was going to get us drinks." Rocco. Fellow American who was flown to Japan on scholarship for his was for athleticism.

Sitting back on the bench, you avoided having to speak - for many reasons. "Waitt, yoo?" His locs bounce in your direction. "Is that lil blur, shit, I was wondering where you went. Why you ain't never text me?" He whined, lips dropping into a small pout.

For the full first year - you, Rocco and Eli (who now lived in America again) all would have to take Japanese classes in place of another class. For almost an hour everyday, it was just you three causing shit for whatever teacher had the burden of watching y'all for the day. Rocco had always been a good friend but then he graduated your first year and went on with his football career.

"Wait hold on, was you and Eli really fucking?"

"Why you couldn't wait over there?!" Ashido stopped the 5'12 quarterback before you could respond, leading him by his arm back into the crowd. She had obviously told him the circumstances of you leaving. Couldn't blame her all of twitter was still talking about it.

Opening your messages both the class 1A groupchat and the various other groupchats filled with different groups in the class were all simultaneously blowing up.

Glancing up from the luminous screen, your eyes were meet with those familiar grey and blue hues. They looked healthy. Like he hadn't missed a lick of sleep since you last shared his sheets. His hair was longer now and was curling around his ears. Your fingers hummed with the memory of his touch. But he wasn't yours to remember or to love anymore.

"Y/n." Your eyes flickered to his hand that was locked with who you knew as Kiko. She was gorgeous - a much better compliment to his beauty than you ever were in those few years. "Hi."

"Shoto." You mustered a smile. "Hi." Your voice definitively shivered there but here Todoroki Shoto stood in front of you. The first time since you snuck out his apartment last July.

"This is Kiko." He introduced.

"I grew up watching you guys during the festivals. Never got around to doing the whole pro-hero thing though." She seemed to gleam at you.

'Wow, her smile was just as pretty, huh.'  You thought. Tall, blasian and a non-hero. His ratings were sure to do numbers with this one. Wonder whose idea it was.

You were hoping the lack of engagement in your tone would open the very drawn out conversation for a subject change but it only seemed to fill her with more excitement as she prepared to speak again. Was she really this interested in your training days? Maybe she grew up loving you so much that she wanted to be just like you.

"How was the flight back? No issues?" Well, that shut her up.

"Took my dramamine and turned on my playlist." 'Fuck did that sound too irritated.'

"Mm." 'Definitely did, now he's leaving.' "I tried to call you. Was your number changed?"

"Yeah, got a new phone when I got there." It was meant to be a bit of self care. You replaced all the shit from your old life to focus on new experiences. That kind of thing. At least that's what you thought at the time. Now you just wonder how many times he contacted you and you never responded.

His eyes focussed on the device on your lap. You refused to look him in the eye and you could tell Kiko was growing unsettled by the energy you both created in the air. She was glancing back and forth between your drained eyes and his yearnful ones that were still focussed on your hand that grasped your phone.

"Oh shit, is that Y/N?!! Back from the Americas." 'Thank god for Hanta fucking Sero.'

You immediately stood up to hug him as he patted his friend's shoulder before walking towards you. Hanta always had the best hugs in the class.

"Yeah, I think you need a drink." You let Hanta lead you as you felt Shoto and Kiko get further and further till your fingers no longer ached for his touch.

when i say shoto copies literally everything you do i mean everything. he could be waiting on patrol and his sidekick just turns around to him with his hand on his hip cleaning his nails. he even picks up on your speaking cadences and quirks. its to the point where others start to notice it and they pick on him for it then he’s just like “do not make fun of y/n😠 ☝️”
