after changing into his regular uniform, rin walked out of the gym to the parking lot to find his bike. his legs were fatigue from the constant movement of his legs and his feet were sore—he felt as though his bones may shatter at any given moment but he didn't dare pay attention to any of his bodily pain and continued to search for his bike.
he scanned the large parking lot which was mainly empty except for a few bikes and cars of the students and teachers who stayed behind to observe/participate in the clubs.
his eyes finally landed on his black motorbike which was parked directly behind one his club member's car. he walked towards it with his backpack precariously clinging onto his left shoulder. he threw the backpack down and began to ignite the engine of his bike.
before doing so, his eyes absentmindedly travelled to the car parked in-front of him due to hearing 2 familiar voices—one of the said voices belonged to his club member who went by the title "ninja" (and believed himself to be a descendant of one) while the other was the byproduct of his coach engaging in coitus.
he shrugged at first, not caring about whether or not the two teenagers were poisoning themselves. however, as he tried to situate himself appropriately on the bike, he couldn't help but glance in the direction of the car, yet again.
he felt an unusual, foreign feeling in his heart—it felt heavier than usual. was it anger? rage? sadness? no, it couldn't be any of them since why would someone like him ever be upset over people like them?
eita otoya, the "ninja", was someone who rin didn't bother with much. in his eyes, eita was a rather adequate player of soccer and he acknowledged his playing skills and considered him to be a "fit" opponent. however, his skills were nowhere as rin's—it was a fact, proven multiple times.
consequently, his feelings towards yn were contradictory: he admired her bravery to ever speak up against and he admired her for calling out one of his fatal flaws yet he despised her for the same exact reason. his feelings were an oxymoron.
still, he thought of how he felt when he saw her with the white-haired soccer player—he felt heart-heavy, as if his heart had betrayed him and was unable to supply him with an adequate amount of oxygen.
today, he noticed how her eyes would always land on his figure as he played the sport. he knew that every five minutes or so, she'd turn to look at him and look away as quick.
but then, upon the arrival of eita, she didn't dare gave him something as small as a glance—her eyes remained fixated on eita and that sparked a rather unusual feeling upon his chest.
was it anger? hatred? he was unaware yet he was feeling the same way as he did then when he now looked at the lair of teenagers that were situated in a car. furthermore, eita's arm was wrapped around her shoulders while she lightly leaned towards him. he didn't know why such an action could spark such peculiar feeling within him.
merely moments later, he realised it was envy but why would he be envious of either of the pair of teenagers? he had no reason to envy eita as he was a slacker. yes, he was good at soccer but his abilities were nowhere near his nor was his education any better, in-fact, they were far worse.
now, looking at yn, why would he be envious of her of all people? she was simply too mediocre to be envied by the rin itoshi.
again, he thought, why was he so focused on his feelings all of a sudden? ever since the fallout with his dear brother, he'd only ever focused on his goal of overcoming him. he always put his feelings aside so he could focus on himself better so why now?
he thought, simply, that some meditation and yoga would fix the mess that his feelings were. hopefully.
yet upon doing so, he realised it wasn't enough. he lacked something, that he was aware of but why would he worry about such mundane concepts when he was close to becoming something much better than that?
ultimately, he decided to hide his feelings, put them aside and focus on his goal and goal only. he didn't want to be distracted yet his haphazard thoughts betrayed him.
if only, if only, if only...
for hours, he thought of ways to regain his focus on soccer and not on himself but all his attempts were futile. he was failing miserably at connecting himself to the one thing that ever gave him importance.
why? that question loomed in his head yet again but to no avail could he muster out an answer that satisfied him.
so he gave up. it was unlike him to ever stop looking for an answer but searching for this specific answer hindered his abilities so he'd search for it another time, when he finally achieved his goal.
it was a fair deal and it was enough for him.
chemistry was never one of yn's favourite classes due to a multitude of reasons. for one, it was genuinely a strenuous subject for her to understand and comprehend—the complex equations and formulas she had to remember put a stress on her brain.
secondly, nagi seishiro was her partner for this subject. she didn't mind nagi however, due to his lazy and lukewarm behavior, she couldn't understand the lesson as much since most of her time would be used up in assisting him in the subject or in the games that he played.
worst of all, she shared this class with rin itoshi.
the infamous rin itoshi—the best soccer player in her year and the younger brother of saw itoshi, himself. who wouldn't fawn and desire to know such a man?
however, unlike everyone else, yn desired nothing more than to bash the man's skull into the nearest wall.
ever since their fight, two weeks ago on her first day, he'd been avoiding her. not having small talk with her, not greeting her—he didn't even give her something as small as a glance. it was as if she never existed to him.
and it pissed her off. sure, she had her few shares of people ghosting her but to completely disregard her existence? she wasn't having it.
so, instead of longing for his attention and desiring to talk to him, she began to ignore him too.
she didn't look at him during practice, she didn't greet him like she always did. nope, nothing of the sort.
until today.
she didn't know how it happened. one minute, she was bickering with nagi about the latest valorant update and the next? her chemistry teacher, mr miyazawa, was glaring down at the both of them—with such hatred and disappointment in his eyes.
'ms ln, i know you're a good student and i believe you have the potential to become one of the best but sitting next to nagi and talking with him will only hinder your progress in my subject,' he stated, she didn't know if he was complimenting her or not.
'due to this, i believe it would be the best to separate your seats from now onwards. i feel as though you'll do better if you're sitting next to a person that's genuinely serious about my subject so that's why you'll be sitting next to rin itoshi, moving forward.'
yn's breathe was caught in her throat—she was fine with sitting next to anyone in her class but rin? no. not at all. after all, she'd been avoiding him for an entire week while he was doing it for a much longer period of time. how would he of all people help accelerate her grades? if anything, he'd distract her further.
'sir, you have to understand, i don't—can't sit next to him,' she pleaded but all her attempts were futile since no matter how much she pleaded, her teacher was stubborn and so she had to ultimately deal with the consequences of her actions and be forced to sit next to rin.
upon arriving at his desk, he didn't even do as much to even spare her a glance-his eyes remained glued to the board in-front of him. that really annoyed yn, she couldn't believe that he'd be so ignorant.
once mr miyazawa went back towards the board to resume his lesson, yn sharply turned to the man next to her. if he wouldn't talk with her then she'll just make him even if it meant losing her dignity.
'what's the matter with you?' she asked with an eyebrow raised making sure that her tone sounded annoyed and exasperated due to his behaviour.
'actually, yn, i'm made of cells—do you not even know basic chemistry?' he retorted. yn couldn't believe her ears. did rin itoshi just use sarcasm?
she scoffed loudly, 'you're insufferable.' she turned her head back towards the board and didn't bother communicating with rin any further.
however, what she was unaware of was that for a small moment—a mere millisecond, rin itoshi's lips curved at the edges. he smiled. though, it was lost as quick as it came. he didn't know why but he was rather amused by the girl's behaviour.
a sort of amusement which made him feel something foreign.
just what was happening to him?

# 02 - afterhours
— MLIST ;; second chapter ! this is the most i've written in forever.
for the one thing she was genuinely interested and was excited for was the only thing she wouldn't get. hours and minutes faded into one another. it was exhausting to know that time was so merciless, so torturous—it wouldn't give her the only thing she desired.
she dreaded the entire day, waiting, begging to see the soccer team of this school. the only thing that genuinely kept her sanity intact was reo sitting in-front of her and nagi to her right.
most of her classes were spent with reo mumbling jokes or snarky comments about the teachers, never failing to make her laugh. at times, she'd get scolded but she didn't care—she enjoyed reo's company too much.
a part of her die feel guilty for allowing herself to relax and be fond of reo—she felt as though she was betraying her old friends yet even so, her feelings of enjoyment and anticipation to admire this school's soccer team outweighed the guilt.
eventually, the last bell rang, indicating it was time to go home or rather, for y/n to find solace with her new situation.
the purple-haired man, turned sideways to look at the woman behind him with a wide smile across his face, 'i can finally show you how amazing our team really is!' he spoke, with such enthusiasm that it reminded y/n of someone dear to her.
reo turned his back to nagi—who rested his head and arms on the table, it looked as if he was sleeping but he was very wide awake—and nagi instantly climbed onto the man's back, 'let's go,' he slurred.
an odd duo, y/n thought; she didn't dare utter a word and only observed them from afar.
she trailed behind them, walking through mazes and mazes of corridors until they reached their designated place.
the school was quite large and y/n couldn't observed her surroundings very well as her mind was filled thoughts regarding the team.
'ready to see japan's best?' asked reo to which she nodded with an excited smile spread across her features—an excitement she could no longer contain.
the doors opened and she was greeted with the familiar setting of a soccer field: benches urronded the entire arena, the pitch was adorned with the white markings and the goals were neatly situated on opposite ends of the fields.
the sound of reo's voice snapped the young woman out of her thoughts of admiration for the field: 'everyone! i'd like you to meet our coach's daughter—y/n l/n!'
his rather over-dramatic announcement caught the attention of the most of the players who took their turn in introducing themselves to her.
one thing she noticed right off the bat about this team was that they all appeared really athletic and determined unlike the team from her old school, she could tell that this team was indeed serious about soccer.
6 men introduced themselves to her in total: a tall, giant of a man with beautifully long, silky black hair that adorned his sharp facial features; his looks strongly reminded y/n of her old friend, chigiri hyoma but their personalities were far from similar.
another was a man who looked rather stoned and spoke in very casual dialect; he had white hair a few of his strands loosely covered his hair and some strands were dyed. he also had a beanie. 'yo, i'm eita otoya, nice to meet you man—you're really hot,' he'd said; a compliment to which y/n could only nod and awkwardly greet herself to.
the third was the most gorgeous man y/n had ever laid her eyes on. the man had such a beautiful, well-structured physique. to her, he felt as though he was the embodiment of a soccer player. furthermore, she couldn't help but stare at his gorgeously thin hands—they were so delicate, so gentle...
'hello! i'm kenyu yukimiya. it's an honour to meet you, i can't believe you're mr l/n's daughter!' y/n was too entranced by the man's ethereal features that she didn't even realise he'd begun to talk to her. upon realisation (thanks to reo's awkward nudging on her shoulder) she slurred a greeting back, mentally slapping herself and wishing to dissolve on the concrete floor.
the other players introduced themselves as nikko, karasu and zentetsu. but, before she could get acquainted well enough with any of them, the door opened loudly, indicating the entrance of another.
a tall man entered, he had white, messy hair that was spiked up as if he'd been electrocuted. he had a wickedly dangerous smile on his face—a sort of warning to y/n, telling her that he was trouble.
'that's shidou ryusei, he's one of our best players but he's kinda a narcissist,' reo informed her. 'i don't like him,' grumbled nagi.
shidou's garish pink eyes landed on the newcomer and a smirk was forming on the corner of one side of his lips. he trudged over to the woman, bending his head down a bit to be at an eye-level with her.
'so! who are you?' he inquired, the same smile on his face. 'y/nl/n,' she spoke, maintaining eye-contact with him.
his eyes widened in shock, 'the coach's daughter? i reckon you're good at soccer then?' he asked further. his second question made y/n want to run far away from him.
y/n wasn't given a chance to answer as shidou froze in his place due to a hand being placed on his shoulder by another team member: 'c'mon now, ryu, why're you trying to scare off the girl, hmm?' the voice belonged to kenyu.
'don't call me ryu!' he exclaimed, swatting the man's hand away and moving towards the center of the field for warm-ups.
'sorry about that, he's a little intimidating at first but once you get to know him...' kenyu trailed off, staring at the distance. 'anyways! you're just here to watch, right?' he quickly changed the subject. y/n replied with a yes and moved towards the benches so she could watch and observe their play from afar.
as she walked, she noticed a player that she hadn't seen before. the player had a strong, toned body and dark black hair that reminded her of a void. he also had shockingly teal eyes. he looked serious.
reo was trailing behind her to make sure his guest was being comfortable, y/n turned to him to ask about the mysterious player.
'itoshi rin, he's our captain,' reo informed her. even though she had just met him, she could immediately tell why he was chosen for such a position.
a whistle blew and a familiar looking man entered the view—y/n's father.
'right so, that's my cue. anyways, hope this'll make you realise that we're the best team ever,' reo smiled.
'we'll see about that,' y/n remarked as reo left the benches and went ahead to assemble in-front with the other players.
she'll finally get to see if the team truly lived up to it's hype.
at first, the team was forced to do warm-ups and laps across the stadium, pretty tedious in y/n's eyes. so, she decided to text some of her old friends but before doing so, she said a quick greeting to her father who was carefully monitoring the soccer team. her father, in turn, didn't say much and only gave her a small smile.
she opened up her phone and allowed the cacophonous sounds of teenage complaints dull into just meaningless background noise.
y/n quickly shut her phone off. she embarrassingly put it to the side as she didn't want to endure any of hyoma's scolding through texts.
her eyes turned to the pitch in-front of her, she noticed that the 10 players had formed into groups of 5, meaning that they would be having a friendly, practice match—the exact reason she came here.
she noticed that reo and nagi were in the same team, she gave them both a 'thumbs up' and diverted her attention to the remaining 8 players. on reo's team were also karasu, rin and nikko whereas the other players were on the opposite teams.
a whistle blew indicating the match had started.
she noticed all the players and the way they all harnessed their strengths for just a simple match.
reo was shockingly good at mimicking his opponents moves whereas nagi would always be near him to assist him. however the one that stood out the most to y/n was rin itoshi, his play style reminded her of a famous, young japanese player—sae itoshi.
the resemblance between the two was uncanny: the hair, the eyelashes even the physique of those two were similar—there was no way they weren't related.
during the match, she came to realise and conclude that rin was most likely his younger brother. yet even so, she couldn't help but notice many of the flaws in his play style.
by looking at rin, she could tell he was strong and an overall good player however, she still noticed how much he lacked and that was mainly due to how he'd try mimic sae itoshi.
it was a "first to three goals wins" match and surprisingly, rin's team won—y/n was sure that it would've been shidou's team not the other one.
'good work, rin, shidou,' she heard her father compliment the two players; shidou had a scowl across his face whereas rin only nodded.
y/n walked down to the place where the team members were, reo was the first to greet her: 'so! what do you think?'
'you guys didn't lie about being one of the best,' she responded and got a quick 'i told you so!' from the purple-haired man.
however, instead of getting acquainted with the other players, y/n's thoughts were plagued by a question she just had to ask the team's captain.
but she relented and proceeded to ask her new friend, instead. 'is that rin guy sae itoshi's brother?' she inquired.
it seemed we thought the entire place stopped, reo's face was filled with unease, as if to tell her that she'd messed up. an awkward, in comforting silence befell the room but before reo could break it and inform y/n of rin's familial life, rin informed her, instead.
'sae's an idiot; don't mention me and him in the same sentence,' he warned, his voice was aloof and cold, his stare on you was intense as if he was restraining himself from chocking you.
'so does that mean that you and him—' you presses further but you didn't even get to finish your question when rin cut you off, 'yes and don't ever mention it again.'
'y'know, for someone who claims to hate sae so much, you sure do mimic him a lot on the field,' when y/n said this, the entire team looked at her like she'd spoke the most heinous sentence ever.
reo in the background was making signs with his hands, telling her to stop yet it did nothing but make y/n want to get under his skin even more.
rin didn't say anything but she noticed how his figure tensed up and how his grip on his water bottle tighten—he really did despise his idol.
'i'm leaving and don't ever talk to me again,' rin spoke as he left the stadium. anger was pulsing though his entire body and he didn't know if he wanted to melt down and cry or punch the nearest wall or both.
after he left, the entire team's eyes landed on the teenager. no one spoke except for karasu who asked: 'what's wrong with you?' followed by eita who said: 'that was so cool, man.'
y/n didn't say anything except for 'i don't like him,' and she shrugged her arms.
shidou's smile grew wider—he enjoyed watching this scene unfold, 'me neither but you don't see me picking a fight with him,' he spoke, 'not most of the time, anyway. the last time i brought up his brother, he nearly strangled me.'
shidou's warning only made y/n want to bother him further—rather than being intimidated by the man, she was much more intrigued. she wanted to know exactly what his brother had done to him in order to make him act like this.
'deserved,' mumbled nagi when he heard shidou's recount but that didn't go unnoticed by the white haired man who marched up to nagi to confront him.
'if you don't want to die because of rin then don't mention rin's brother,' spoke karasu with a hint of amusement to his tone; it was clear that he, too, enjoyed watching rin get all frustrated over the mere uttering of his brother. 'yeah you're too hot to die,' added eita.
it was just here first day but y/n had somehow managed to get acquainted with her new school's soccer team and also find a mystery to solve. she wouldn't dare admit it but somehow, rin had piqued y/n's interest and she was dying to know more about him.
