Reminder that academia isn’t just an aesthetic but a way of living that allows you to see all the beauty in the world, to learn to your hearts content for the sake of learning, and to embrace human resilience and creation. It is NOT an excuse to think you’re better than anyone who “hAsnT rEad sHaKEspEaRe” nor is it required that you “look a certain way”. Wanna go all grunge and learn about Greek mythology? Wanna wear pastels and flower print while reading Dante’s Inferno? Wanna wear sweats and research Egyptian curses? Go for it! You aren’t bound to one aesthetic and should not feel pressured to look or behave a certain way! To me academia is about learning and love. Regardless of sexual orientation, race, gender, disability, etc. You are welcome here <3
A SHADE TOO DARK
They say the way through is the way out.
They don't want us to weigh in--just to stay out.
A closed mouth is a silent shout,
But the people can't hear us when we shut our mouths.
If you speak up it's too loud,
Too black and too proud.
Just a shade too dark.
But there's a remedy for that,
Another bullet in a black back.
Souls turned desolate
Another bully lackin' black tact
Black man--white cop.
Gun cocked
pop, pop
Two shots
No thoughts
Un-armed, life lost
Cheeks turn
Hate costs.
Just a shade to dark.
Red handed as the blood spills.
Black bodies turned to buzz kills.
If the people don't acquit 'em you know the judge will.
And you try to tell me times ain't what they was still?
Just another ni**a in a white world.
They tryin' to wipe our history--white whirl.
Dismantling families killing off the "villain".
An infection to them "white folk" and them bullets penicillin.
Mass incarceration and gentrification too,
The wounds from the hatred have pierced us to the roots.
They try to call us thugs and force us from the roost,
But all lives will matter when the black ones finally do.
I guess we're just a shade too dark.

If you guys didn’t hear about the doja cat situation here’s a break down:
Doja cat was on a podcast/video chat entraining racists and laughing at their racist jokes but also saying that she wanted to be fully white (she’s mixed btw) but luckily she’s thick and light skin. Also people are noticing she has a song out named dindu nuffin which is phrase that mocks police brutality.
Obviously when it’s time to be black, people use it for profit and clout. Like this is not an everyday issue being black in america. While we die in the streets singer/rappers like her use us for streams, get us to come to concerts and they make their money. Then what?
We’re broke. On government assistance. Unemployed can’t feed our families because of getting laid off in this terrible time. But y’all sit up here and “stan” these people. Not just putting it on doja there’s serval more artists just like her.
I get it, “it’s not that serious, it’s just music”. But it is serious when black sons, father, mothers are dying in the streets because of our color but people like her say they don’t want to be black but use it when it’s convenient.
Wake up.
let me be tired
