When would be the first time that little Maggie begins to trust Ariadne? What is their eventual familial relationship like? (Ari loves her so much)

ohhh    the    first    time    maggie    really    begins    to    trust    ariadne    would    be    probably    around    when    she's    starting    to    hit    that    early    puberty    ,    changes    are    beginning    to    happen    and    i    feel    like    crying    all    the    damn    time    ,    era    .    because    she    needs    a    woman    who    gets    it    -    hermes    &    pan    ,    love    them    to    death    ,    but    they    aren't    really    that    helpful    .

ari    (    and    dio    ,    but    this    isn't    about    him    )    have    lived    through    this    process    before    and    can    approach    with    empathetic    experience    ,    not    just    sympathetic    words    .    it    helps    immensely    that    ari    takes    what    she    says    seriously    ,    as    was    established    when    maggie    was    younger    . 

maggie    feels    listened    to    ,    and    not    just    because    she's    being    funny    or    commanding    attention    .    ari    teaches    maggie    that    her    words    ,    desires    ,    and    experiences    are    worth    respecting    and    showing    even    when    it    is    not    rooted    in    entertaining    others    .    especially    when    it's    not    rooted    in    entertaining    others    .    ari    helps    maggie    find    her    voice    . 

i    think    ,    opposed    to    pan    ,    maggie    can't    sub    ari    in    as    her    mother    .    because    she    has    those    memories    —    she    sees    her    mother    every    time    she    looks    in    the    mirror    ,    ffs    —    and    she    can't    shake    them    .    she    knows    where    she    came    from    . 

but    ari    ,    to    use    a    meme    ,    isn't    the    stepmom    (  duh  )    but    rather    the    mom    who    stepped    up    .    and    so    while    maggie    calls    her    aunty    ari    ,    and    that    is    her    relation    ,    she    also    is    using    aunty    in    the    way    one    would    give    respect    to    an    older    woman    ,    regardless    of    relationship    . 

as    maggie    grows    into    an    adult    ,    especially    after    her    rehab    and    in-patient    experiences    ,    she    circles    back    to    ari    ,    ready    to    actually    internalize    her    lessons    and    teachings    . 

and    ,    most    importantly    ,    to    finally    feel    worthy    of    such    things    . 

maggie's short swords need names. she's got two of 'em, they're silvered, can be used to channel some of her magic, and i'm torn between them being joke names or being like, named after concepts

upon   more   thought   ,   what   if   her   father   was   an   anachronastic   quic.ksilver-esque   character   .   someone   who   was   on   a   mission   through   time   ,   stopped   to   mess   around   ,   and   accidentally   made   a   child   with   someone   who   would   later   join   the   brotherhood   with   ma.gneto   .   maybe   the   character   only   seems   fast   ,   but   he's   really   bending   time   ?   small   wormholes   just   for   him   to   mess   around   with   ? 

her   mother's   telepathy   was   strongest   with   animals   and   illusions   ;   she   specialized   in   making   people   firmly   believe   they   were   animals   ,   down   to   movements   ,   habits   ,   and   mannerisms   .   maybe   she's   more   powerful   if   she   uses   a   particular   plant   that   allows   her   to   manipulate   reality   ;   literally turning   people   into   animals   .

this   would   give   maggie   the   softball   set   up   to   be   connected   to   portals   &   travel   (   through   her   father   )   +   illusions   &   substance   use   (   through   her   mother   )   .

he  touches  her  and  it  all  stops  . 

her  body  ,  still  shivering  from  the  cold  ,  immediately  melts  into  his  touch  .  she  feels  like  she  can  breathe  again  ,  deep  gasps  that  expand  her  lungs  all  the  way  as  he  thaws  her  back  to  life  .  frozen  hands  reach  for  the  blanket  ,  holding  ,  grounding  ,  rubbing  the  soft  fabric  until  she  can  breathe  again  . 

yellow  eyes  ,  pupils  wide  with  delirium  ,  look  to  his  face  ,  where  she  slowly  calms  .  her  breath  settles  ,  her  body  warming  back  to  normal  as  she's  tucked  in  against  him  . 

she  doesn't  know  what  happened  -  if  something  latched  onto  her  from  the  last  time  she  went  there  ,  to  the  perpetually  flooded  valley  of  his  domain  ,  only  to  strike  now  ,  but  at  least  she  doesn't  feel  like  she's  drowning  on  land  anymore  . 

tears  fall  as  she  theorizes  what  she  had  been  feeling  .  the  last  panicked  memories  of  dreams  ?  the  nightmares  born  from  those  memories  ?  hypnos'  own  helplessness  as  he  felt  his  realm  weaken , himself unmade  ? 

she  doesn't  know  ,  but  she  feels  better  now  .  she  buries  her  face  against  his  neck  ,  feeling  every  bit  an  imposter  queen  . 

she'll  dry  her  tears  in  a  bit  .  for  now  ,  she  only  murmurs  soft  apologies  .  not  for  her  actions  ;  but  for  ,  impossible  as  it  is  ,  not  being  able  to  have  helped  him  through  that  .
