For Super Mario Bros. 3‘s 25th anniversary, I present Captain Southbird’s romhack Super Mario Bros. 3Mix. Similar to Rockman 4 Minus Infinity, it implements great ideas from several later Mario games, but this one stays true to the level design lessons of the original. The Rev 1 release from two days ago fixes bugs Mike Matei found in his review, so make sure you get that one.
Update: Captain Southbird has released Rev 2B which fixes a couple bugs, so get that one instead.

Hello from Tumblr! I’ve been thinking, and I realize that my WordPress blog posts are basically Tumblr posts anyway. I might as well make it a Tumblr blog because I lose almost nothing. I plan to re-make all of my WordPress posts as proper Tumblr posts, properly reblogging the Tumblr stuff this time to comply with the posters’ wishes. For instance, my post for PiNe’s illustrations will become reblogs of every image when possible. Once I learn to Tumblr properly and get my theme and cross-posts working correctly, this is going to be good.

30-Day Video Game Music Challenge (Super Hard Mode) Day 20: Music from a racing game From OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (Xbox, 2006)
OutRun 2 with Turbo OutRun music is a lot more fun than actually playing Turbo OutRun.

Tetris the Grand Master 3 has the subtitle “Terror-Instinct”. KevinDDR has become the sixth player in the world and the first outside Japan to tame this beast and earn the rank of Grand Master in Classic Master mode. Only the best players who can get to and and beat the invisible credits roll consistently earn the right be tested for Grand Master rank, and Kevin pulled it off under pressure. Congratulations!
I really should have posted this one last night. Kevin's a friend, and I should have realized that his run was on YouTube and could have been blogged about. Sorry about that. Click for the full-size image.
Update: Replaced the unofficial AGDQ YouTube archive with the official one.

GRAND MASTER!! “DEMONIC GAMESOFT
It’s Comics for the recent amazing feat. It looks like a foreigner has obtained "Grand Master,” huh… we’ll discuss “Gosh, that’s difficult”. What’s more difficult, in gamesoft? Shiranai~
It’s a news piece on such a subject. It’s IIDX. Dolce vs “Mei.” It’s “Dodonpachi Crazy Run”.
It’s the Last Dragon and “The Master.”
It’s “Patreon Fan/Fun Club For The Support Of Kawaiis”.
The certified video nerds at My Life in Gaming got to review the retroUSB AVS, a new system that plays NES carts and accessories accurately in glorious 720p. I’m still playing my Famicom carts on a Power Joy, so I really want this.

Sports geekery is geekery like anything else. SB Nation's Chart Party answers tricky questions by doing deep dives into a vast amounts of statistics. The show has tackled what if Barry Bonds didn't have a bat and just how profoundly bad the Cleveland Browns are. This one's still my favorite. It uses a complex formula to determine how "sad" a punt is, and then runs it on every punt in the modern NFL. This inspired me to do my own absurdly complicated formula to decide what retro games I should put on my handhelds' limited storage space. I might report on that later, but I should stop punting and finish a blog post already.

Getting into MUGEN territory here. You know, in case Marvel wasn't broken enough for you.

A commission from someone on DA to draw more Meowvel vs Catcom. XD
While looking around on pixiv and adding bookmarks, I found out that good artists tend to have really good bookmarks of their own. This is how I find stuff like Anime Galactus destroying some planets. Also, things that users tag as “Futsukushii”, “Hisense”, and “Click Recommended” are usually great picks, and this one has all three.
Actually, she seems sad about this. I guess that's where all the ice came from.

30-Day Video Game Music Challenge (Super Hard Mode) Day 27: Music from a handheld game From Bravely Default (3DS, 2012)
JDetan keeps telling me about Bravely Default’s fantasy rock soundtrack. He also says I should never trust a fairy, whatever that means. If a portable RPG rocks this hard throughout, I’ve got to play it.
Edit: Yikes! The first YouTube video I had here was taken down today! Here's a different upload. I use official YouTube Music uploads where possible, but none exist for Bravely Default's soundtrack. Edit 2: I had to replace the YouTube video again.

Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist hit me with another doozy today. Comedy metal band Psychostick really wants me to grow a beard. Now, I respect a good beard and I want to improve myself, but I’m afraid that a beard would look weird on me. It’s too much maintenance!
Eh, I’ll think about it.
