In case you don’t know, project LUMEN is an in-development indie game adaption of the Life series, a Minecraft YouTube series created by Grian. Featuring a full RPG experience: battles, a branching timeline with limitless choices, custom and unique visuals from our talented team of artists and, of course, lore: there's a path for everyone to take.

So, hello and welcome to the Writing corner, and we are looking forward to your potential application! 

Now, do not feel intimidated. While we look at examples of your fanfiction writings when considering you, we are not judging your capabilities to write for the game that harshly, because, as you may notice, a game is not fanfiction. It is a script! 

Here’s a basic guide to script writing so you’re not gonna join in blind. And once chosen, you will be guided through the ropes of learning how to write that way! This to say, don’t worry about prose. In the applications we will be mainly looking at dialogue, characterisation and maybe a bit of scene handling. 

This project is big, but I’d like to think the workload isn’t. While LUMEN has a small team of writers, we have managed to split the work between us, going at a steady pace of one seasons/timeline per month, with a week break in between. 

In our normal process, we have each of the seasons’ small and big events alike written down in bullet points and put into a Google Sheet for the Writers to claim. They are the ones to decide on what they want to write, and that usually ends up with them having a two week deadline for the writing of one thousand words-ish. Though we understand if a deadline can’t be met, more time can always be given- we aren’t monsters. That’s the Watcher’s job. Not the Speakers’. 

We also have a meeting every other Sunday to talk about progress and make sure our writings all line up, while also planning out what needs to be done next. These meetings are very fun though, trust.

So make sure to apply when applications come out on the 30th of april, and get in before they close on the 20th of may!

Without further ado, may I present:

The Bad Boys Bakery

Allegedly run by an FBI task force as a crime-watching front, the Bad Boys Bakery is known for the wide variety of breads and pastries it offers. They have a longstanding, mostly one-sided rivalry with the Clock Cafe because their cakes are stealing the bakery’s customer base from under their noses.

Grian [Last name redacted]: The extremely stressed head of the operation to track down and neutralise the main mafia family in the area, the Clockers. He’s also the official owner of the bakery. He vehemently denies the existence of any romantic and/or sexual tension between him and the charismatic owner of their rival cafe, insisting that the only intentions he has with Scar Goodtimes are homicidal. (Grian’s right to declare murderous urges is protected under the First Amendment.) He is banned from the kitchen due to his pathological obsession with buttons. Joel [Last name redacted]: Head baker and Grian’s right-hand man, Joel has tasked himself with baking a pie so good it draws his wife out of hiding. Some wonder if he has perhaps gotten a bit too into character with the whole bread thing, seeing as he’s supposed to be part of the FBI’s most elite covert ops team. It’s fine. Why do you care so much if Joel’s a secret agent from the American government? What, are you obsessed with him or something? Jimmy [Last name redacted]: Jimmy handles the storefront and greets every prospective customer with the same grin and, if accused of being a toy cowboy (long story), the same indignation. He is fine with being the mascot for their bakery, though. When not trying to fight crime or run a bakery, Jimmy enjoys bubble baths, plotting with his cat Norman, and convincing his friends to play board games with him. Also, for some reason, every time someone pays in cash they give him nickels?

Hello there . You asked for BigB writing advice and I come to thee with it. Disclaimer I may be slightly off because Roblox B also affects how I write him personally and MC BigB and Roblox BigB are different in a few areas !!

Anyway! For dialogue, when he does talk (he doesn’t usually talk in groups of 4+), he tends to stutter a bit. Not always, but enough. He does tend to tease and be a little mischievous, teasing someone in one sentence and then complimenting them in the next. King of backhanded compliments, tbh

He’s also pretty relaxed, usually. I’ve generally found that being taken by surprise / jumpscared is what scares him the most. He also does show nervousness around people, but he only expresses it in private - around the person, he puts on a smile and seems like he’s not scared at all, even if they threaten him. Hence how you get things like the Terry situation in the face of ZombieCleo range

He doesn’t really do allies? He’s untrusting of the allies he does have, tending to keep people at arm’s length, aside from genuine close connections (Nosey Neighbours). He’ll hold things in the alliance against them while simultaneously trying to fix things. He’s good at the social game, just doesn’t really have the connections to utilise it.
