An Ode to the Scientists of the X-Files
They sweep into your lab a matched pair, brandishing samples, theories, danger. You make them believe what they're seeing, produce numbers, charts, evidence like magic, forever worshipping at the altar of science, you are the brightest and most incorrigible.
You die in every episode. Your lab burns down. Your car crashes. You're stabbed or drowned or poisoned, No matter which way you're murdered, You die for science.
The duo might not remember your name. But you remember, how under your microscope You saw a little piece of the universe, and God, too.
Gather around kids, I am Very Old and I remember the summer of 2000. Good times on the Fox forums, deep in battle with the NoRoMos.
Mulder had just been abducted and Scully revealed she was pregnant. The Shippers were losing their minds and the NoRoMos were coming for us, saying it wasn't Mulder's baby, that it must have been the result of some alien experiment and therefore the baby was an alien. They trolled us by insisting the alien baby's name was Meepmork.
Does anyone else remember this or am I making it up?
Ideal work schedule:
I show up and am given a list of cognitively engaging but achievable tasks
I complete the list
I leave immedietly
You will soon know more about worms
Me watching The X-Files: Ah yes, another episode where:
Something weird happens
Mulder says “it’s aliens/ghosts/a lizard man”
Scully says “no Mulder it’s just swamp gas and mass hysteria”
They investigate anyway
Things get progressively weirder
The weird thing solves itself
Mulder stares pensively into the night
Scully files a report that says literally none of it happened
They both go home like “welp that was strange”
[Cue credits]
this was such a first big moment for them <3 and then they proceeded to be confined with each other in a small cubicle on several occasions and once shirtless during the rest of the episode <3
how to say "I love you" in x-files [118/?] ⤷ 1.17 — “E.B.E.”
"Closure" was good actually because Samantha was not a symbol or a mission or an idea. She was a girl. And that girl is gone. There is no body, no meaning, paradoxically, no closure to be found. It's meaningless because it's real. It is real because it is meaningless.
So, Gillian Anderson is slightly taller than me and every time they have a scene where she stands next to David Duchovny without the Scully box, this is all I can think of:
I like creppy stuff and reading. She/Her. 20. Currently obsessed with The X-Files.
