Hiii, I thought I'd make a post where I write some stuff about myself:) my handle used to be "trapped-in-a-burning-body"

So, intro facts:

▪︎ Disabled, lived with chronic pain for most of my life

▪︎ Studying medicine

I'm navigating going to uni while attempting to have a personal life and respect my body's boundaries. It's challenging on the best days, impossible on the worst. I've just learned how to bind books, and I've made a few too many already. I'm trying and failing to watch less netflix AND I've just started watching anime, which is very exciting. I love reading, mostly random medical books or fantasy, and I write poetry, mostly about being disabled.

being productive is not about fancy bullet journals or well-thought out plans or meditating every morning!! while they mean well, posts/videos about ‘maximising’ productivity often make us feel inadequate, or like if we’re not doing our best then we’re not doing enough. don’t complicate things. it’s OKAY to just have one or two tasks on your to-do list, to study in your pyjamas, to only feel up to doing a couple hours of work a day. you don’t have to make green smoothies or have neat handwriting or workout every morning. scribble those notes if you need to. it’s okay to just grab some toast when you don’t feel up to much. it’s okay to not do everything you told yourself you would do, like that run you planned or reading that book. life doesn’t have to be this hard. if you get overwhelmed by this, set yourself a small list of achievable goals for the day. it may seem simple. good. that’s what you need. don’t beat yourself up for not being perfect. you are okay.

Living with Chronic pain is so weird.

In every quiet moment there’s pain.

If some asks me how I am I usually say ‘fine’ or ‘good’ or ‘a bit tired’

because those are easier to say than ‘I’m in a lot of pain’ ‘I’m this close to passing out’ ‘if I move to quickly I will throw up’ 

and sometimes when people say ‘How are things going?’ 

I shrug and say ‘the usual’

and they assume that means everything’s fine because for them that is the usual

but for me the usual is pain.

I feel like some of my fellow students in med school could stand to read this. And by "some" I mean most and by "students" I actually mean the able-bodied students, which seems like everyone but me, but I could be wrong.

daily reminder to able bodied folks,

disabled people don't owe you their story or their medical diagnoses.

disabled people dont owe you education on their disability.

disabled people don't owe you justification that they are disabled.

if you live with chronic pain you are the baddest bitch on earth. literally badass as fuck. also you are cool and mysterious and everyone thinks ur sexy. every day u wake up in pain u wake up hotter and cooler than the day before. trust me thats how it works.

The Disability Library

I love books, I love literature, and I love this blog, but it's only been recently that I've really been given the option to explore disabled literature, and I hate that. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be able to read about characters like me, and now as an adult, all I want is to be able to read a book that takes us seriously.
