thinking about how everyone who ever cared about kim rok soo would disappear from his life
and how he started to keep a distance from the people who cared about him
perhaps, in the attempt, that they might stay
and the people who managed to crack open his shell
died in front of him
You know, one of my favorite parts of tcf is how they deal with misunderstandings. Since Cale here, literally EVERYONE misunderstands what he means. Normally, I'm not a fan of when something adds a lot of misunderstandings, but the way the book does it is genuinely so good.
I generally feel second hand embarrassment when misunderstandings happen, but in tcf, when such misunderstandings happen, it tends to work out for him AND doesn't feel awkward. Mostly because they misunderstand Cale and think he's kinder then he is when he's actually being "selfish" (that gets quotation marks because he really isn't being selfish lol).
Another shapeshifter au but it's gunwoo, and the people in his neighborhood keep asking him to babysit their odd pets?!?
(An au set where he's around 30 and moves to a rural area and likes his job and starts up photography again.)
There's a cheeky red haired cat that follows him around a lot, and likes to sit in his lap and on his shoulders. (There was one time he was walking home late and a cat leaped from the wall onto his back, almost knocking him over and giving him a heart attack. He didn't get down until he was bribed with food, and it was quickly apparent that food bribery was a mistake~)
For some reason unknown to gunwoo this has led to him being asked by various neighbours to look after their pets, including: a piano-playing rabbit (yes, that rabbit from the internet), a very shy deer (apparently not a pet but it lives in their back yard? Which is also apparently a full on forest??) (though gunwoo has never experienced anything like it when the deer finally approached him); an actual bird of prey (which was strangely polite), a hamster (which apparently likes watching YouTube), and then there was that one time he played Go with a bear (an actual bear).
Something I initially really liked about Cale's character is how he suddenly became the "trash" of the count's family and he seemingly takes it as an asshole permit.
No manners, rude? Well duh, He's the local trash.
And then, hundreds of chapters later it hit me:
This guy really never changed the way he acted, he says so himself and it's why Choi Han was able to easily recognize him in Choi Jung Soo's memories.
Which begs the question: What sort of internal narrative did he have going on as Kim Rok Soo to "justify" his behavior?
Baby Rok Soo was at the bottom of the social ladder, an orphan, poor and his uncle was an alcoholic and a gambling addict to boot
How many times do you think he heard things like "What can you expect from someone without parents?", or "Just what you would expect from someone who wasn't raised properly"
"Someone of your kind"
And then he became a Team Leader
How many things did he do or didn't do under the pretense of being "Cold-blooded"
It also doesn't help that he's unable to process praise or kindness directed at him.
if you abandon gender hard enough you can unlock the secret state of nirvana where all clothes give you the thrill of crossdressing
Polysoos hc
Lee Soo Hyuk and Choi Jung Soo understand Cale the best. And they got there by painstakingly prying communication out of Cale's teeth when he was still Kim Rok Soo. They have cried tears of blood to understand Cale.
The problem lies with the fact that Cale now uses them as a standard for people understanding him. He just can't put into perspective the work they did to understand him, so he believes that he's easy to understand.
scrolling through ao3, once again realising the one fic I want to read is the one I have to write.
this is the funniest thing I’ve seen in any review ever
During the mission, an ability user who worked in an illegal guild, cursed Team Leader Kim Roksu to be a cat.
Fortunately Kim Roksu managed to hit the back of his head and he passed out. Unfortunately the curse already hit him by that time although weak.
It's unknown when Team Leader from Team 1 will return back to normal as the criminal is in coma from Kim Roksu's beating.
It was an unlucky week for Kim Roksu.
Concealing his emotions has always been easy. You can't blame him. Kim Roksu has a natural resting bitch face that makes him look cold and intimidating. Whether he's sad or angry, his face remains the same. Impassive and nonchalant.
However ever since he's been cursed, he wears his heart on your sleeve and people have been reading him easily as if he's an open book.
They even said he's beginning to act like an actual housecat. Unbelievable.
Kim Roksu ears twitches, his tail swift irritatingly.
"What's the matter, Team Leader?" Jung Soo Hoon asked as he innocently whipped out yet another cat toy.
Kim Roksu huffed, unamused clearly and left the room.
He's like an adorable, wrapped-up little bundle of everything I love about our protagonist Cale, just younger and a tiny bit less traumatized - but no less oblivious or self-sacrificing for it, mind you.
He's the stubborn bugger who kept refusing to call Park Jin Tae "the king of the shelter" (because that title should belong to its founder Lee Soo Hyuk), even if all he got for it was getting beat up.
He's the sweetheart who chose to sleep under a leaking roof just so that others wouldn't have to.
He's the guy who got to see his alternate self's memories and witness him saving his future, and his response to it all was basically an empathetic "Damn dude, your life sucks! ...Also I wanna beat up a god too" 😂
He spilled blood alongside Cale and his reaction to others freaking out over it was a confused "What's their deal?", because he's just as much of an emotionally stunted idiot. You never change do you, Kim Rok Soo?
I know he's a freaking 20-year-old man, but I wanna adopt him so bad. I wanna hug him and squeeze his cheeks and feed him an apple pie to make him less skinny and beat him over the head for being such an oblivious moron.
Finn + any pronouns + aroaceMostly lurk, but if I post/reblog it'll be about TCF/LCF or some web novels
