Teenage Dieter Head-canons

Dieter’s new found family are the first few people he hasn’t tried to run away from since his time spent with Hartmann, actually allowing himself to seek guidance, and direction from those like Doctor Tenma, Nina, Dr. Reichwein, etc. They make sure he’s able to properly continue his education after the Ruhenheim events, participate in sports, and make friends like he should at his age. Due to his upbringing, he remains humble—but that doesn’t mean he could escape the stereotypical “teenage boy experience” so easily.

His signature look is shirts with a striped design.

He’s often times rebellious, but that’s no surprise. Though, he is very stealthy when it comes to trespassing, and participating in graffiti.

Nina helps cut, and maintain his hair.

Despite everything, Nina continues to visit the Czech Republic, wanting to form a connection with the history she has with it, and the people she met along the way. Dieter accompanies her occasionally on these trips, and while doing so, he ended up running into other kids like Antonin, and Miloš (small World); they soon became the best of friends, and proceeded to hang out during various breaks, and holidays after that. The two also told Dieter stories about Grimmer, and the impact he left on them before he passed.

He chooses fire starters in every Pokémon game, always.

Took after Tenma, and picked up playing the guitar (naturally), but leans more towards electric than acoustic.

Likes to Ghost Hunt, and would definitely try to vlog it, too.

Just like everyone else, Dieter is still trying to adjust his life after the chaotic conflict caused by Johan’s actions throughout all those years. Though, because he was nearly groomed to be his successor, Dieter catches himself fixating on this “Monster” that would consume everything he’d thought he needed to become. Dieter never informed any one of these feelings, but he wonders if things were to turn out differently, what then?

Wanted to try experimenting with coloring/dyeing his hair, as well as getting piercings, but was told he has to wait until he was at least 18. (Attempted to pierce himself at some point with the help of Antonin and Miloš—but since it was hard to hide from people like Tenma, especially, and it would easily get infected—he removed them).

HATES the cops (for obvious reasons). But has met both Detective Suk, and Inspector Lunge on separate occasions, and deemed them an exception. Has personally been caught up to no good by Jan Suk, himself, also.

Has a pet rat (this is a given).

Because the story itself was meant to prove that Johan was wrong

While the story revolves around Johan, the moral of the story doesn't lie on his worldview but shown throughout the series by other characters—that is: even though the world is cruel, full of darkness, pain and suffering, we mustn't let it continue and consume us

Times and times again we were told and shown that we mustn't fall into despair and we can't let the darkness consume us because we have the power to prevent it from spreading further

I Don’t Understand People Who See Monster As A Nihilist Work, As If Johan Was Supposed To Be Right?

That we can still hold on to hope for a better future

Times and times again we were shown how people are saved by other people's kindness and intervention:

Dieter and Milosh were saved because Tenma and Grimmer cared about them and gave them compassion

Eva didn't get murdered because Martin refused to let himself be consumed by despair and choose compassion instead

Mikhail Petrov saved the children by raising them full of compassion

And in the end Johan didn't get what he wanted because he was wrong; he was wrong about the world (the world isn't just full of darkness), he was wrong about people (people are capable to act with compassion instead of cruelty and selfishness), and he was wrong about himself (he isn't a lost cause)

And that's what broke him: his lifelong beliefs were shattered by his sister's compassion and Tenma's refusal to kill

Again, I don't know what counts as nihilism, but:

TLDR: Monster is a story about how hope and compassion triumph over despair and cruelty

I genuinely think Tenma would ADORE Taylor Swift and her music.

It’s not because I like Taylor too and I like my fav to like her too. I have an actual reason why I think this statement could be true:

Tenma likes music but it’s already said that when it comes to music what takes his attention is the lyrics, he cares about the words more than the rhythm or the beat itself. So I’m sure he would LOVE Taylor’s poethic lyrics on her songs, Taylor is able to express a lot of emotions and stories in such a poethic way, in a way you can relate to her songs. And Kenzo would totally appreciate and adore that.

Besides, he would totally admire her after all the things she has been through. Maybe he wouldn’t be the biggest swiftie out there, but he’d definitely admire and adore her and her music, and he would know all of her albums.

And yes. He’d go to The Eras Tour.

Tenma’s favorite Taylor Swift song “My tears ricochet” is and his favorite album is Folklore and Evermore.

It’s a bit different than how I usually sketch since I was using a different program/tablet than my usual drawings so I may revisit this later in my more comfortable setup to do it more justice TuT
