• your aloud to be passionate about a dumb story
break up your paragraphs. big paragraphs are scary, your readers will get scared
fuuuuck epithets. “the other man got up” “the taller woman sat down” “the blonde walked away” nahhh. call them by their names or rework the sentence. you can do so much better than this (exception: if the reader doesn’t know the character(s) you’re referring to yet, it’s a-okay to refer to them by an identifying trait)
blunette is not a thing
new speaker, new paragraph. please.
“said” is such a great word. use it. make sweet love to it. but don’t kill it
use “said” more than you use synonyms for it. that way the use of synonyms gets more exciting. getting a sudden description of how a character is saying something (screaming, mumbling, sighing) is more interesting that way.
if your summary says “I suck at summaries” or “story better than summary” you’re turning off the reader, my dude. your summary is supposed to be your hook. you gotta own it, just like you’re gonna own the story they’re about to read
follow long sentences w short ones and short ones w long ones. same goes for paragraphs
your writing is always better than you think it is. you just think it’s bad because the story’s always gonna be predicable to the one who’s writing it
i love u guys keep on trucking

Sea Shanties 101: Let's explore
If you've any experience in sea shanties, you've probably noticed they don't all sound the same. Some are slow, some are fast, and some are just downright sad! Well there's method behind the melody, and I'm here to tell you all about it!
A shanty frequently contains a CALL, which is what the shantyman would sing out, essentially the verses of the song, and the RESPONSE, which is what the men would sing back. For example in Haul Away Joe: the call is "Louis was the king of France before the revolution," and the response is "heave away, haul away Joe."
One of the first things to keep in mind is that shanties were used most frequently during tasks that required most of the crew. I'm now going to separate these types of work shanties into categories:
CAPSTAN SHANTIES: these shanties were used for repetitive work that was sustained, such as raising the ship's anchor at the capstan. Examples? Randy Dandy-Oh, Drunken Sailor, Eliza Lee, Barrett's Privateers (though this was written long after the age of sail!)
HALYARD SHANTIES: sung during tasks that took a very long time and required a break for a breath before the men started up again, such as hoisting a sail. Examples? Blow the Man Down, Leave Her Johnny, Hanging Johnny (Johnny really took the piss huh)
PUMPING SHANTIES: let's hope you didnt have to do a lot of pumping! Wooden ships were prone to leaking and so pumping out the water was necessary but tiresome work below decks. Examples? Santiana, Pump Shanty (surprise there)
SHORT-HAUL SHANTIES: for quick work, like shortening sails! Examples? Haul Away Joe, Paddy Doyle's Boots, Haul on the Bowline
There's some of our task shanties! Now why don't we go below and see what our off-duty men are getting up to?
Why, they're singing FO'C'SLE SHANTIES! These shanties are stories of life at sea, the work they'd done, the places they'd been, they can tell you a lot about a sailor's life. Examples? Rolling Down to Old Maui, Ben Backstay, All for me Grog
Fun! How about those far away in the polar seas hunting whales? Well I'm glad you asked because this is where we encounter WHALING SHANTIES! And yes, you guessed it, this is where Wellerman comes in! Other examples include Bonnie Ship the Diamond, The Greenland Whaler Fisheries
Now of course the most important rule of sea shanties is to have fun with your buds! Be sure to tell everyone you know about your newly-acquired shanty knowledge!
He looks like I did in seventh grade but better.
Tempo Magazine, 1992.
A scream cut through the silence of the night. I knew immediately what had happened and got to him as quick as possible.
Cyrus was bolt up right. His black hair was a mess and he was running his fingers through it and staring at the ground.
" What happened? "
" I-it was m-my mom and a- alice. But it wasent really my mom it was just her eyes. The way she looked at me like a predator stares down its prey. " he suddenly started crying. " dammit she was right. I can't even defend myself from my own mind. " he tried to hide his face and went almost completely still.
" Don't cry. None of us can defend ourselves from our minds. " I pulled up my sleeve. " I let my mind run me for to long. Let's wage the war on our subconscious together and learn to create tools to fight against the shadows that burn our minds. " their was one long scar on my arm and around it the words " your fault" over and over again.
He suddenly started crying harder.
" wait... Did I say the wrong thing? What did I do? "
" no it's not that it's just your the first person that cared when I cried. " his eyes went dark as he started looking down.
" your also just the first person that showed me any kind of affection. " as he said this he got slightly pink and a slight smile formed on his face.
" Your eyes look beautiful when you smile. It's like removing the clouds from the sunrise. "
So I like researching m disorders and I might have one called dermatillimania. ( a form of ocd in which the person with the disorder scratches at their skin( can use objects to help) to remove imperfections such as zits, bumps or scabs to the point of it becoming a disorder.) And I know I shouldn't self diagnose but... I sorta have all of the symptoms of it. I also took a quiz on a dermatillimania which said I had very severe dermatillimania. (https://www.skinpick.com ) I mostly scratch at my head but I also scratch acne, all possible scabs and skin around the nails and the edges of the nail. My mom also has ocd which makes it more likely I have a variant of ocd. And I've also scratched like this as long as I can remember.but recently it got a lot worse. Like my mom has started noticing how much I scratch my head ( don't know if she knows how hard I scratch) and telling me to stop. This may sound simple like just stop scratching but it really isnt. At least it doesn't feel simple.
now I know this doesn't seem to bad but I can tell you it does suck.
