Take creators stepping in and dismissing fan theories and interpretations of their works with a grain of salt. This is a lesson I learned early, from Anne “my vampires aren’t gay and also I might sue you” Rice. 

During the peak of my Vampire Chronicles love, I – at that time, a very petty fifteen-year-old –  set out to underline every single really queer moment in the whole series. Spite aside, I quickly realized that in a series where the protagonist runs away to Paris with clearly his violinist boyfriend, and convinces his next super angsty obviously boyfriend to MAKE A VAMPIRE CHILD WITH HIM to keep said angsty boyfriend from leaving, this was easier said than done. 

I mean, she’s not fully wrong – Lestat’s not gay, he’s very bisexual. Louis and Nicki are both hella gay, though. 

Anyway, I’ve meandered. The point is – creators can say wildly inaccurate things about their works sometimes. Anne Rice went Christian and didn’t want her books to be SUPER FUCKING QUEER anymore. Creators’ views on what they’ve made can change over the years. You never fucking know.

Hey to all fanfic authors here’s some advice about depressed characters. If they are depressed in cannon and you give them a gf/bf and say now their happy then it’s very inacurrite. No one can fix you you have to fix yourself( getting antidepressants would also help) and most times it your depressed even if someone tells you everyday they love you it won’t make it to away especially If the character has gone through trauma caugh caugh death of anyone your close to caugh caugh I can speak through experience that after shit like that you will never be the same. And nothing can fix trauma it doesn’t matter what you do it never goes away you could actually be happy all day then suddenly you’ll see something that reminds you of it and bam now your blaming yourself for it again. Stop over looking trauma and saying well now that their dating someone they are happy cause that’s bullshit if you do something like that try to make it they try to fix themself for the person so then they might actually be able to see a compliment as true and not feel like their burdening them. And look at their personality before and during depression to see how you would deal with it if you were in your skin. DEPRESSION DOSE NOT GO AWAY INSTANTLY. NOTHING DOSE. think about how you think you would deal with what caused it inside them anxiety, self douht, abuse ( physical, emotional, ect its all equally important and horrible), bullying, trauma ( death is common in this regard but so is much other stuff), failures, toxic relationships ( friendships, relationships, parental, again are important), not having stable surroundings,  mental disorders ( don’t brush over this shit it’s important to look at it you want them to not have depression), being prone to depression, being lonely( and yes you can feel alone even if your surrounded by loved ones), ect. A gf/bf can’t fix someone with depression. You can’t fix someone who doesn’t want to be fixed but theirs a difference between being afraid to ask for help and not wanting help. 

Now onto my second gripe. If your depressed you can still get happy (for me it’s just sorta clouded. Like theirs a fog of something else over everything but that’s just me and everyone’s different)while you can’t say they don’t have depression anymore randomly you can make it so they can still get happy it’s just not long term happiness. 

Third people are complex. look up their symptoms and check what stuff can help those spesific symptoms. for example writing down what you like about yourself would have different impacts on different people ( personally i cant find anything i like about myself. in class once we did a thing where we all got a paper traced our hand on it and wrote our name in the middle then went around putting compliments in the fingers and the only ones I got were smart and good at art which i just found sorta funny like guess they cant find anything they like about me either. guess im to much of a cynical asshole) or drawing could make someone crytical of them self just pick apart everything they didnt like about their art and wouldn’t be able to go into a state of peace they would just most likely get to get better at art but wouldn’t see they were improving. 

Done that was just stuff I would appreciate If you don’t agree with it then that’s fine do what makes you happy. But if you brush over trauma with a date then… I can’t do anything to you sense this is a computer but I’ll angrily save my finger at you so…
