To state it simply, you hated Lee Donghyuck. He was cocky and full of himself, never taking a second to care about the people around him. So, what if he was Student Council President? So, what if he beat you in the election? He was just a prick anyway.
You wished it was that easy to just forget about him. Though, from the moment you met him, back in the ninth grade, there had been a sense of competition between you. In everything, you found a way to make it into a test of each other.
It was funny because you used to be friends back then. Soon enough, he had a girlfriend, Rina, was her name, and you grew further apart. And soon enough you didn’t talk at all.

“Prince Jeno. You are to wake up and get ready for studies.” You shake his shoulder ever so slightly, knowing that if you shook it too much, you could be scolded.
His eyes slowly peeled open, eyes locked tiredly on you, “Did no one tell you? I’m. Sick.” The tone in his voice bewildered you, taking you aback. How can a person, barely awake, even manage to speak to another person like that? Where did he keep all that energy?
“I apologize, my prince, I was not informed.” Though you were offended by how he greeted you first thing in the morning, you knew you still had to keep composure.
“Well? Leave. I need to get my rest before my illness gets worse,” he ordered. Jeno muttered something under his breath before turning the other way under his sheets.
Tightening your jaw and gritting your teeth, you bowed and turned for the door, leaving the prince to rest. Your annual break was soon. You can handle a few more days.
For the past nine years, you’ve been at the Prince’s side, helping him out through all his activities or basically just when he needed you. The meeting between you both didn’t sit nicely as Prince Jeno didn’t want you as his servant. He already had his eye on your friend Jaehyun who had apparently made a good impression on him. Then there was you who really did not want to be assigned to Jeno as you wanted to serve the Princess, who you deemed much more interesting than the Prince. The king had revealed that it was better that way since you were both of the same age, but that was it. To you that was an invalid reason, or not enough to come off as reason, but since it was the King speaking, you obeyed his order and forced yourself to stick by Prince Jeno’s side.

“We have a problem,” Donghyuck of Slytherin tries to warn you before you enter the Great Hall. His presence comes as a surprise to you, not used to seeing him so early in the morning. He’s as handsome as ever with his dyed brown locks framing his perfectly sculpted face, something you would never admit out loud-- not because you didn’t want to but because you had to keep that thought to yourself, for your family’s pride depended on it.
“Out of the way, snake,” you say back but Donghyuck only fights for your attention once more. The student body is used to seeing the two of you attack each other with insults but the looks they are giving you this morning are something you’re not familiar with. They look amused with their teasing smirks as they stare knowingly at your bickering bodies in front of the large doors. You’ve been getting these stares as soon as you entered the hallway leading up to the Great Hall, snickers following you as soon as you passed by a pair of mischievous red-headed twins.
“Wait,” Donghyuk wraps his hand around your wrist, dragging you out of the morning crowd’s view. It’s nothing much, it’s just his long, dainty fingers tightening around your arm but it never fails to send a flurry of sparks down your spine. You feel your heart leaping away much like the chocolate frogs you loved to consume in your free time.
He suddenly stops in a hidden staircase, away from curious eyes, and he buries his head into the crook of your neck. His breath tickles your skin and his toned arms circle around your waist, the actions sending your heart aflame. You smell the peppermint of his toothpaste and the comforting scent of dry cedar that drives you absolutely insane.
“Donghyuck, please, what are you doing?” you hiss at him. “Someone could see us!”
Your so-called rival only buries his head more into you and the material of his robe shroud you with a warmth you only felt around his presence. “Doesn’t matter,” he mumbles into your skin. “They already know.”
“What?”
“The entire student body knows,” the overly affectionate Slytherin replies as he places a kiss on your temple.
You yank away from him with widened eyes. “What do you mean by that?”
It was then you realize Donghyuck isn’t wearing his usual colors; instead of the usual green and silver he parades in, you see him bashfully wearing your house colors. “Why are you wearing that?” Instead of replying, he juts his chin out to gesture at your uniform.
Glancing at your own clothing, you finally noticed that you were dressed in Slytherin colors with his name proudly embroidered on your tie. Your hands tug at your tie and robes as Donghyuck watches you with a fond smile. “W-what is the meaning of this, Hyuck?”
“You know how the Weasley’s caught us the other day with that blasted map of theirs?”
“Yes? They greeted me rather weirdly this morning,” you told him.
Donghyuck coughs at that comment, trying to figure out how to break the news to you. “They, uh, enchanted our ties to match our partner’s colors. So when I walked in this morning, everyone saw your name on my tie and found out.”
“Blast those twins,” you curse. You had to get them back later.
“I know you wanted to keep this a secret-- I’m sorry,” he apologizes. It was true. Your families were rivals in a sense and you wanted to keep up with the pretense, afraid of disappointing your family. Hiding your relationship with Donghyuck was one of the hardest challenges you had to face. Cursing him and throwing insults at your lover was far from fun and games.
“No, it’s okay,” you reassure him with a smile. He brings the back of your hand to his lips, pressing a light kiss on your knuckles. “I’m tired of hiding, family rivalries be damned.”
“Yeah?” Donghyuck smiles at you.
“Yeah,” you giggle back. “Besides, maybe I want to go on cute Hogsmeade dates with you without sneaking around.”
When Donghyuck pulls you into a kiss, it beats the feeling of flying on your trusty broom. It’s nothing short of magic. He pulls away and rests his forehead on yours. “Well then, let me walk you to your table.”

When Haechan strutted into Chinese class with his hands in his pockets, earbuds shoved in, and backpack hanging off one shoulder, you had a terrible urge to smack him. Mina, one of the most popular girls in the class, immediately stood up and flocked around him with her friends.
A chorus of “Here I’ll help you!” and “I can do it, I’m good at it!” flooded the previously quiet room as the girls made grabs at Haechan, who calmly and politely refused their offers. He glided to the window where you were, swinging his backpack onto the ground and plopped into the desk beside you. You groaned in (half) mock disgust.
“Are you kidding me right now?”
Haechan only smiled goofily at you, and you knew he was trying his best not to start laughing. He popped his earbuds out and draped them across the back of his neck, the buds dangling from his shoulder.
“As much as I hate AirPods, I swear to god they’re meant for you.”
He merely shrugged “You wanna buy them for me? You know I don’t have the money for them.”
“You know I don’t have money for them either! If I had money, do you think I would still have my LG phone? Do you know how hard it is to find a cute phone case? I have to spend a solid hour browsing through shady eBay listings!” As you rambled, Haechan scooted his desk so that his bumped against yours, returning his gaze back to you when he felt settled. Completely disregarding your mini-rant, he whined. “Fix it for me, please.”
You crossed your arms against your chest and huffed. What kind of game was he playing? “No. So many people offered and you turned them down, I’m not about to fix it for you.”
“Ah Y/N! Come on, please~” He continued to make baby noises at you and pout profusely. You quickly scanned the room and saw a significant portion of your classmates either glaring at you or gaping at Haechan. When he wouldn’t let up, you snatched his earbuds from where they laid and set them on your desk.
He always did this. Mostly because he wanted your attention, and also because he liked it when you helped him. It made him feel like you cared about him. So every few months, he would knot the wires of his earbuds so messily that it reduced the length of them by half, and then proceed to beg you to untie them for him. And here you were, once again, hunched over the tangled mass trying to carefully dissect the clump.
“Literally anyone else could’ve done this and it would’ve produced the same result,” you complained.
“That’s not true. You’re the only person who won’t break them when you untangle.”
Haechan watched you work, your fingers moving skillfully due to all the previous times he came to you with the same task. He liked how your hair would fall from your ear and brush against your nose, and how you would then let out a huff of air to push it away. He liked how you would start with your head bent over the desk and then slowly straighten, bringing the earbuds to your face rather than your face to the earbuds. And he liked how every time you finish untangling it, you would grab his phone and plug them in to make sure the wiring was still intact in each ear.
You put the buds into your own ears and hit play, not caring what was on. Although you were kind of curious today since Haechan was sporting his resting bitch face as he came in today. Expecting some kind of badass rap, you were surprised to hear jazzy piano and a male voice.
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off you
You’d be like heaven to touch
I want to hold you so much
“What is this?” you asked, popping one earbud out so that you could hear his reply. He raised an eyebrow and frowned, trying to remember. The music continued to stream into your ear, and you were a little surprised by the lyrics.
I love you baby
And if it’s quite alright
I need you baby
Through all the lonely nights
“Haechan this song is so unlike you,” you mused. The lyrics came to you in fragments, as you were only paying attention half of the time. You opened his Spotify and read the title out loud. “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You, Max Von Essen.”
Oh pretty baby
Haechan’s eyes widened in alarm. The tips of his ears started burning and he opened his mouth to explain, but couldn’t. How could he tell you that he was listening to it, with you on his mind? Sure, he was planning on confessing his feelings at some point but not now. It was too soon, too rushed, too spontaneous. He wasn’t ready. He doubted you were either.
And let me love you
“Do you like it?” he asked instead. Your head started to sway to the song, fingers tapping the surface of the desk rhythmically. “Yeah, I do. Not my usual vibe, but it’s very sweet.”
You’re just too good to be true
Haechan picked up the other earbud, his fingers grasping the white plastic and bringing it to his ear. Maybe now was the time. It didn’t have to be a grandiose, fantastical promposal under the stars. As he listened to the lyrics with you, he made up his mind.
Oh pretty baby
Now that I’ve found you stay
“You know,” he started, when the music faded away. “When I listen to this song I think of you.”
You cocked your head, confused. “Because of the sound? You know I don’t really listen to old music or jazzy stuff.”
He shook his head, feeling flustered. Forcing himself to swallow his nerves, he looked straight into your eyes and smiled warmly. You’d never seen him so genuine before and felt butterflies stir in your stomach. “What then?”
“The lyrics. You’re too good to be true, I can’t take my eyes off of you.”
The corners of your lips twitched upwards. Was he saying what you think he’s saying?
He inhaled and started singing to you sweetly, serenading you. In awe, you pulled out the other earbud to give him your full attention. He slowed the song down as he sang, gracing you with his voice that you heard so rarely. Your heart bloomed and you felt an urge to kiss him but you knew that if you kissed him now, he would stop singing. His voice pulled you in and made you forget about the little trivialities, instead encouraging you to focus on only him.
“I love you baby, and if it’s quite alright. I need you baby, through all the lonely nights”

a/n: happy birthday jaehyun! and happy valentine’s day everyone!!!! much love :D
You walk into the break room, noticing your coworker- Jaehyun, hunched over on his phone, lips pursed. When he notices your presence, he smiles slightly, “hey,” he mumbles, before looking back down at his phone.
You and Jaehyun have always been friends- as the youngest people in your department, you automatically clicked and stuck together. Jaehyun has always been kind to you, he was nice to everyone. The other women in your office would often remind you of how lucky you were because of your friendship- but you were just friends, nothing more. In the almost 2 years you had known him, Jaehyun had never brought up dating or talk of a romantic life. Jaehyun’s daughter- Jina, took up most of his time and he loved it- but it also meant he barely had any time to actually pursue relationships outside of work.
“You good?” You ask, sitting down on the sofa across from him.
“Yeah, yeah,” he smiles. “I’m just trying to find a babysitter last minute for tonight.”
You listen while you bite into your apple. He hesitates before asking, “You wouldn’t happen to know of one would you?”
You shrug, “No, I don’t think so sorry.”
“I figured,” Jaehyun laughs, “considering you don’t have kids or anything.”
There’s a lingering silence and you almost feel bad. By the distressed look on his face when you walked in, it seemed pretty urgent. “Yeah,” you start, “I mean, well- I could watch Jina if you need me too.”
Jina is 4- almost 5, and looks a lot like her father. You could immediately recognize her as Jaehyun’s, with one dimple like his, a similar eye shape, and a toothy smile- she looked practically identical. She was shy and well mannered, often tucking herself into her father’s pant leg when meeting new people.
