[11.28 a.m.] “Y/N, I wanna arm wrestle with you!” Your classmate Jaemin says, pouting cutely.

“No,” you say firmly. You’re fully aware that beneath his lanky, unassuming exterior, Jaemin’s absolutely ripped and he’s more than capable of crushing you within an instant. 

“Please,” Jaemin begs, widening his doe eyes; a lethal blow to your frail heart indeed. “Just once! I’m really weak.” 

Bullshit. You roll your eyes and set your elbow on the table, holding out your hand to him in reluctant compliance. Jaemin breaks out into a wide grin and wraps his hand around yours. 

“Okay, start,” he says, and you channel every ounce of your strength, pushing Jaemin’s hand down hard towards the table. To your surprise, he barely makes any effort to resist, and his knuckles almost graze the table when he suddenly snaps out of it. With a flex of his muscle, he pushes your hand away from the table, and the tussle begins. 

You realize that you’re both caught in a deadlock, fists held in midair. This is puzzling. You know that Jaemin could easily defeat you if he wanted to, and when you raise your eyes from your hands to his face, you realize that he’s staring straight at you, a dreamy look in his eyes. 

“Na Jaemin, what are you doing? You’re not being serious at all. I don’t wanna play anymore,” you exclaim with an annoyed huff, tearing your hand away from his. 

“Wait, Y/N, I’m sorry! I just…” he trails off as you get up from your seat, just as your friend Jeno beckons you over. 

“I just wanted to hold your hand,” Jaemin mumbles to himself quietly, heart heavy with the weight of hidden feelings and an unspoken confession.

You were The Slayer. The Chosen One. Savior of all people. 

Such a high title for a university student that didn’t know what they were doing. Your Watcher, or guardian in layman’s terms did a good job in training you in your Slayer duties but he was absolutely useless in navigating through normal life problems.

And he certainly didn’t prepare you for this.

You were in the graveyard at night, hunting for the latest supernatural hassle that was harassing your small town. Keeping a watchful eye, you shifted your gaze around your surroundings, your sight never lingering on one place for too long-- vampires moved fast but you, as the Slayer, had to move faster. You heard the rustling of dried up leaves, the plants crunching underneath someone’s footsteps. The grip on your wooden stake tightened and you waited for the right moment before swiftly turning around, your free hand extended to grab hold of whoever was sneaking up on you.

Your hand caught hold of your attacker’s neck and you quickly backed them up into the nearest tree, stake raised right above their non-beating heart. Glaring harshly at them, you were shocked to see a familiar vampire in front of you.

Na Jaemin was his name and he was in your major at university. You didn’t exactly get along, always competing with each other for the hell of it, and it only got worse when you found him lingering around your battles. He never helped; he remained cryptic--sometimes giving you helpful information but never engaging in the action. 

Not knowing how Jaemin knew so much about the supernatural world, you tried to remain cautious around him. It was a struggle for you-- despite how much he got on your nerves, you couldn’t help but think he was attractive. He had the face of an angel but the shadows behind him were something of the devils. 

There was this lingering feeling around whenever the two of you were together, some kind of tension. You felt it and you were sure Jaemin felt it, too.

It all turned for the worse when you found out what he was-- a cursed soul and one of the most powerful vampires that ever walked the Earth. 

You could never figure out why he helped you against his own kind until that moment.

“What are you doing here?” you hissed, stake hovering so close to his body.

Jaemin never reacted, his stare piercing through you. “Making sure you’re okay.”

“Why would a vampire want to make sure the slayer was alive?” you challenged, grip tightening around his neck. He didn’t fight back even though you knew he could. He could physically overpower you in a fraction of a second. 

“That’s another story for another day.”

“You say that as if you’re going to live to see another day.”

“Satan, even when you’re annoying the fuck out of me, I still love you,” Jaemin muttered under his breath.

Your hold on his neck loosened, shocked at his words. “What?”

His lips quirked up to show a fraction of a smile, one you had never seen on his angelic face before. “You heard me, Slayer. I know you did.”

“Is that why you’ve been protecting me all this time?” you asked, lowering your stake.

He chuckles, his voice deep and low. “It’s hard to resist you.”

“Resist my blood, you mean.”

“No,” he counters. “Just you.”

“Why?” you question him, eyebrows knitted.

“Why not? It’s so hard not to fall in love with you,” Jaemin replied, his face going soft. 

Yeah, your Watcher never prepared you for something like this.

10:18PM — yukhei’s eyes are shining when he spots your waiting figure backstage, adrenaline still running through his veins as the fans cheer. when the lights turn down low and the staff are sure you aren’t in the crowd’s line of sight, he wastes no time in rushing towards you and sweeping you off your feet.

“oh my gosh,” yukhei breathes out shakily after twirling you around, hands cupping your cheeks and squishing your face lightly, “are you really here? is this you? how? you told me—“

“i came to watch the show,” you grin, placing your tiny hands over yukhei’s larger ones, “i was in the crowd, but baekhyun must’ve recognised me because he told some staff to bring me up backstage when i separated from the crowd to ‘go to the toilet’. so here i am.”

“b-but, you told me you couldn’t come because of school and work—“ he stammers, but you laugh.

“how could i miss my baby’s debut stage? i came for your other two, so why wouldn’t i now?”

yukhei stares at you for a few more moments, eyes wide as he takes in the fact that you were actually here. when he does, his face breaks out into the widest smile and he takes you in his arms again.

“i’m so glad you’re here,” he says, voice muffled from where his face is buried in your hair. you turn your head to kiss the side of his neck affectionately. “did i make you proud? was i good onstage?”

“it was amazing,” you assure him, smiling brightly when he pulls away, but only to kiss your lips with a giddy grin on his face, “you were amazing, always.”
