I Know I Talked About Buying The Tweed Jacket In The End But I Didn’t Have Enough Money So I Bought

i know i talked about buying the tweed jacket in the end but i didn’t have enough money so i bought a puma hoodie instead lmao

broke academia things

curling up in the corner of a public library and pretending you live there

taking pictures of the ruins of your local cathedral because you need those aesthetic pictures for your blog

staring longingly at the tweed jacket you’ll never afford in the shop window

wearing the same red turtleneck (the only one you happen to own) in every outfit you can in a hundred different ways

staring longingly at the tweed jacket in the shop window

impulsively buying the tweed jacket and putting yourself in financial debt for the sake of aesthetic (totally worth it)

penpals in dark academia

- live in either a big city or a quaint little town in the countryside, there is no in between - sending pressed flowers, newspaper scraps of recent events or blackout poetry on ripped out book pages with letters -hoarding all the small things and letters and keeping them in your satchel to read in the library you work at -waiting in anticipation for the next letter and getting a bit too excited when it arrives

the concept of waking up and getting out is just as magical no? leaving the little universe inside your head and going on an adventure in the big wide world, but this time you meet real people with their own little universes and leave real lasting impressions on them - even if its the most mundane place or scenario, the fact that its real is magical and fascinating to me in itself

i think the concept of dreaming is so mundanely magical. even when we are asleep our brain comes up with scenarios which we usually cannot control. of course some of them are unpleasant - i’m no stranger to nightmares myself - but there are dreams where i go to other worlds and dreams where i can fly and meet my favourite characters. even the wackier ones are magical in their own way, making us decipher their meaning and leaving a lasting impression on us. i just love how personal dreams are. they come directly from our mind, no one else can see them. it’s our own little universe.

london livelihood (the sequel)

carrying on from my previous post after leicester square we finally got to the most exciting part of the trip, winter wonderland. surprisingly a lot of people were only there for the food, which i was very surprised by, i think the main event is the rides, no? first up was the Eurocoaster, i went with two friends who i'm gonna name Tall and Blue at the time it seemed very scary but it was nothinggggg compared to the other two rides we went on after. it twists and turns and went up and down at the most unexpected moments, i think Tall was also wary of the fact she was sitting inbetween two motion sick people but thank gosh nothing went wrong. all three of us screamed our lungs out and then Tall said the ride wasn't even scary?? i think she screamed the most lolol. next up was my choice, The Boomer, a big 360 swing that also rotates the carriage so you're spinning upside down. this was without a doubt the scariest ride i've ever been on. i mean, go big or go home right?? when we first got strapped in i heavily regretted all my life decisions and chose that specific moment to tell Blue about my fear of height. remembering it gives me goosebumps. after all the mayhem, the ride came to a stop at the top and for a solid 5 minutes we had the best view of not only winter wonderland but the whole of london. i think for a few minutes i loved the height more than anything. we took a small break to cool off because that ride is exhilarating before walking around so Blue could have her pick. That ended up being the Munich Looping. I'm quite sad that I didn't get to keep the mid-ride picture because i managed to keep a straight face the entire time but alas! there is no proof. We explored the rest of the park after that! Took photos and met up with friends where we tried churros and macarons (overrated imo) I slept the entire ride home. I think it's definitely something I'm going to remember for a long time afterwards. The image of london from the top of the Boomer and the chill from the cold is engrained in the forefront of my memory until next time! Amimi

start of summer (sunshine and sadness)

Sun 10 July 2022, 3pm the alliteration for the title came so smoothly its silly. this isn't a monthly recap but i just felt like dumping so here i am. i just read a short story called The Girl He Left Behind (10/10 would recommend) and am ugly crying. Induction Week came and went a lot quicker then I thought it would. overall, pretty good! i love all my subjects and the people in all 3 of my classes are great! there was some ugly stuff that reared its head right towards the end but i'm trying my best to pay it no mind. so it's been officially decided on fine art, media and sociology! i'm just waiting on gcse results, despite definitely not getting the grades i wanted in sociology due to a spontaneous breakdown during the second exam from stress, but on the very positive side i'm pretty sure i still passed which is all you really need to study it at a level. i'm doing two more creative subjects and one pretty hard essay based subject to even out, which i think is a pretty good mix! for transition work over the summer i've got a personal sketchbook to fill for fine art, a presentation to make about myself for media and then some tasks that are yet to be set for sociology. one of the themes for the sketchbook is films/tv which i'm super stoked for - i think i'll post about the sketchbook and media presentation a lot on here as i make it and the final result aswell. that's all for now! tips for year 10

since i’ve finished year ten and am just starting year 11, i thought i’d offer some advice for those of you starting year 10:

1. make your notes as you go along - it’s so much easier to revise effectively when you’ve already made resources, instead of wasting revision time making notes. this also means that you have notes ready when you go into year 11.

2. ask questions - when you have a question, write it down and ask your teacher next lesson. not only does this make sure that you know the content while you’re learning it, it helps you become more involved in your subjects and shows your teacher that you’re willing to take initiative and learn for yourself.

3. use revision resources - i would recommend getting revision guides (e.g. the cgp books) in year 10 and using them to guide your revision throughout the year. if you don’t want to write on the books until year 11 then you can use a separate notebook to answer the questions.

4. REVISE FOR YOUR EXAMS - i cannot emphasise the importance of this enough. if revise and work for exams in year 10 then you’ll have already started learning the content that you’ll need to know in year 11. this means that you don’t have to revise as intensely for year 11 mocks and eventually your acutal gcses.

5. if you regret your options, switch while you can - some schools may not do this, but in my school we have a four week grace period at the start of year 10 where we can try out our option choices and change them if we want to. if you have a few lessons and find out that one of your subjects actually isn’t for you, see what you can do about switching to something you find easier/more fun/more interesting. i find that enjoying a subject will motivate me to work hard at it, so it’s super important to be studying things you enjoy.

6. concentrate in lessons - it may seem that as your gcses are in a year, you don’t need to work hard or concentrate in your lessons, but please don’t be the person who has to learn everything in year 11. it’s likely that you won’t revisit your year 10 topics in depth in year 11, so concentrate and learn them while the teacher is teaching you.

7. seek help if you need it - year 10 can be a pretty stressful time, what with a new course, new teachers, new classes and a bigger workload. if you feel like you need help, be it with academic problems, physical health or mental health, please please please ask for help. there is absolutely no shame in asking someone to help you, and it will honestly make everything easier.

8. enjoy yourself - i know this is a generic thing that everyone says, but enjoying yourself and having fun is really important. join clubs, hang out with friends, make the most of having more privileges within school without the stress of gcse exams. as well as a place of learning, school should also be somewhere you can make lasting friendships, memories and have loads of fun.

i hope that these have helped some of you, and good luck to everyone starting year 10, you’ll smash it! xx

october onslaught (obstacles and others)

01:01 - Friday 28th October that title does not make sense but i spent a good however many minutes scrolling through synonyms on thesaurus.com to come up with it and i refuse to waste those efforts.

so sixth form turned up a notch in the past month, it's been flashing by really quick, i'm unorganised and flustered by every little thing - not to mention how thrown off i am by not only the sheer amount of work, but how much i have to try and catch up on due to sick days. now that i don't partake in anything other than school (as i've dropped my religious studies), i find myself growing really restless. i'm considering getting a job? but i'd have to make a cv and figure out how to make a bank account and tons of other things before even considering applying. idk i feel kinda dumb for not knowing these things already. it's half term holiday! well, almost the end seeing as i have the weekend and then have to go back to school. i plan on somehow plowing through all of the work i've missed (particularly sociology) and being fully up to speed by friday. wish me luck! i'll probably be doing tons of school posts to motivate me so i'll see you soon. until next time! ~Amimi

books (and movies) and other content

how would you all feel about me mixing it up with books and movie content on here? constantly writing about dark academia can be quite exhausting for my imagination.  maybe throw in some light and grey academia?
