I can see Gene chilling on the couch when someone knocks on the door, some kid pointing down the street saying his friend fell off his bike or smth, he cleans the kid's scratches and put a bandaind on his knee, gives them a small smile and goes back home.

The kids like to thank them with small favors, helping them with the groceries, raking the leaves off their front yard or shoveling snow.
