So anyways I think the worst part about Emma May is that she was so so loved. Fidds almost destroyed a city because she left him. Can you imagine loving someone that much? To the point of wanton destruction? She just couldn’t give him what he truly wanted so she lost her place in his list of priorities. He got carried away in Ford’s dazzling world and forgot that she was a person who needed companionship and attention, that she wasn’t just a concept to yearn for from a distance. Fiddleford forgot that she was a person a PERSON and all we see is this negative space, a garage in Palo Alto, an imprint left in their marriage bed, half a face on his desk, this forensic scattering left in her son’s existence and a crazed lunatic missing a Family, a Wife. She once existed. And he dug such a deep well of sadness within her that she quite literally disappeared completely from the narrative. Something something there’s a particularly cruel pain left by the selfishness of kindhearted men. Emma May, was it worth it?
"Nice characters are boring" to YOU. I love characters who no matter what, will always have genuine love for humanity in their heart. Characters who dance and laugh and sing with sincerity. Characters who believe in others, and are willing to extend a helping hand to people when no one gave them the same luxury. Characters who have gone through so much but believe, no matter what, that humanity and life is something beautiful and worth protecting
SICK from thinking about the symbolism of the rune.
Which rune Viktor gives baby Jayce is the only thing we see as a catalyst for change across timelines — it's the butterfly flapping its wings.
The rune switches hands only twice more after that:
Viktor giving it back to Jayce, representing the start of their partnership concerning Hextech,
and Jayce giving it to Viktor in the astral plane, helping him put an end to the arcane apocalypse.
But there's one more important similarity about these moments — they're moments when Viktor and Jayce save each other.
Mage Viktor saves Ximena and baby Jayce, then gives him the rune.
Viktor stops Jayce's attempt, then hands him back his bracelet.
Jayce stops Viktor from losing his humanity, taking the rune from his wrist and together, they use it to save the world.
The rune isn't just about possibilities. It's a representation of their lives.
And they only ever put it in each other's hands.
I just saw a TikTok about how Jayce’s fatal flaw is that he is willing to do anything to help the people he cares about, regardless of the consequences, and I had a thought:
Jayce agreed to destroy the hexcore at Viktor’s request, but at that point his death was still an abstract. When he is faced with Viktor, limp from a snapped spine of the council chamber floor, he barely hesitates in using Hextech to save him.
Because despite the promise he made, despite how it betrays Viktor’s wishes, he loves Viktor too much to let him die while Jayce can do something. And he would rather lose him than lose him.
There's something so perverse about how Jayce is paraded around in white and red and gold when his House colors are clearly shades of blues and browns.
Especially because the more he is used and controlled by the council as a whole, the more he is plastered about as some figurehead or poster boy of Piltover's progresses, the more he is draped in the gilding of false colors.
We actually never get to see him wearing his own House colors past his flashback with the mage, in which the majority of his little outfit is made up of the more humble color scheme.
The only thing he actually still owns in his house colors is the blanket he gives to Viktor, which can be seen in his childhood room and is made of the same material his mother wore during the blizzard for warmth.
Edit to add:
I'm adding this to the original post so y'all don't assume I just didn't analyze the literal BEST Jayce outfit in the whole series.
It's a mourning shroud.
While the highlights may have some blue to them (blue highlighting is very common in animation to keep things from looking dull or muddy) the midtone on his shirt is actually in the yellow field.
Also, no. The Talis House symbol is not red. It's brown and gold (sometimes with white).
Any red relating to the Talis symbol is BECAUSE of the color corruption of Jayce, not in spite of it.
The outfit still has meaning, but as I said in the post, he NEVER goes back to his family colors after being paraded around in the red, gold, and white.
This outfit is black, red, and silver. His armor is black and gold with an off white coat (to show that he's still doing this in a way for Piltover as well, probably.)
It's and end and new beginning. It's a rebirth.
Not a return.
The Arcane Major Arcana
Card 0 - The Fool
The Fool represents innocence, idealism, youth, and vulnerability. He is inexperienced in life and has not faced the major obstacles it has to offer. His potential is yet unlocked, and he is only beginning his journey.
Reversed, The Fool warns of recklessness, naïveté, and chaos.
That post that's like "stop writing characters who talk like they're trying to get a good grade in therapy" really blew the door wide open for me about how common it's become for a character's emotional intelligence to not be taken into consideration when writing conflict. I remember the first time I went to therapy I had such a hard time even identifying what I was feeling, let alone had the language to explain it to someone else. Of course there are plenty of people who've never been to therapy a day in their life who are in tune to their emotions. But even they would have some trouble expressing themselves sometimes. You have to take into account there are plenty of people who are uncomfortable expressing themselves and people who think they're not allowed to feel certain ways. It also makes for more interesting conflict to have characters with different levels of understanding.
GOD I want to enjoy the opening sequence of Arcane S1 but unfortunately I am an ex-dancer and managed to traumatically injure myself while dancing to that song and don’t particularly like dissociating bc of Imagine Dragons so what’re you gonna do
