printers and internet connections can sense fear

If there's a loving, caring, and stable adult who wants to take in a child... why are you trashing this????? Is this a cultural thing????? I don't understand this. I knew one girl who was from Bolivia and her white parents adopted her and they kept her in soccer, threw her a lavish quinceanera, and kept her in other culturally appropriate things. These were the whitest people I've ever met, yet they did a wonderful job raising Hannah. It's possible to be culturally aware of how you are raising an adoptive child... idk why that's even a debate. Educate yourself. A great example is hair maintenance classes for white parents who adopt a little black girl. Her confidence is boosted by walking into whatever life throws at her if adults help her navigate her hair. I don't get why that's a problem. The list goes on. Disappointed that there's shade being thrown anywhere.

Definetly Not My Most Productive Day. I'm Proud Of What I Got Done, But It Just Wasn't Nearly What I

Definetly not my most productive day. I'm proud of what I got done, but it just wasn't nearly what I needed to do. I'm still bumbed out from yesterday. I'm actually behind schedule this week (not just because I joined a class late). On Wednesday I was too depressed to do any schoolwork and slept and watched videos most of the day. Today I couldn't get focused until about 11am. I woke up somewhat early, but I definetly slept in compared to my schedule last year/pre covid.

What I did today:

● wrote two initial discussion posts (~700 words total)

● replied to a discussion post (another ~300 words)

● got half way through this week's Environmental Statistics module

● attempted to do some affirmations in the mirror today (I have horrible self esteem and body image... it's been particularly bad lately)

With that I'm going to listen to some Headspace and go to bed 😴😴😴

1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8ish (my ancient chromebook is not really compatible with zoom + a little programming). Online learning only made these even more apparent. My heart goes out for the kids in K-12 the most though. If this were to happen when I was in K-12 I probably wouldn't have passed my classes.

I feel that in the studyblr community nobody actively talks about the study environment some of us have, so shoutout to those students that:

• live with their parents (not everyone goes to college/uni where they have dorms, and even then, not everyone can afford it)

• have to deal with parents/family members constantly arguing in the background

• work / have to worry heavily about just getting by (paying rent, groceries, medication)

• need loud music to study and drown outside noises

• can not "study prettily" at coffee shops

• take care of other family members, and thus have to be ready to drop whaterever they are doing to assist them at any time

• can not concentrate or get "in the zone" no matter what they do

• do not have a personal computer/tablet

• do not have a room of their own

• are neurodivergent and the advice of most study masterpost/tips is not applicable.

You are valid, you are seen, you are not alone. If nobody has told you already: if you are trying the best you can then the best you can is good enough.

sincerely, a student who needed to hear this.

Dark, light, grey, and science

Lmao I'm a mess 😂

academia types ✨✨

dark academia: you have 3 copies of to Kill a Mockingbird, you won't shut up your current obsession, you were too shy to answer questions in class even though you knew every answer. despite being super capable, you still wing a lot of tasks. also self-care but make it ~ edgy ~.

light academia: you're the teachers pet, but like in a good way? you probably tried to learn an instrument like the flute in school but haven't played it since, always holding iced coffee, works way better in an Organised Study Group with like minded pals.

pastel academia: all the coloured highlighters imaginable, and the neatest handwriting? studying anywhere BUT their room (cute café yes please), if you're nice to them they will fall in love with you, you probably haven't seen their natural hair colour.

grey academia: takes lots of notes but can they read them?, cried listening to Greta Thunberg in 1975's song, "gender is a social construct", surprisingly good at time management, probably short and angry, constantly trying to tell their parents how to be "woke."

classic academia: your cat is your best friend, always dreamt about having a bookstore café when you were older, definitely participating in goodreads reading challenge, you shock friends on your ability to always sleep on time, quiet until people get to know you (and discover you're ~quirky~)

science academia: you are not capable of liking things casually: it's all or nothing, constantly complaining about how difficult your subjects are but knowing this is exactly what you want to do, well practiced at pulling all-nighters, probably got some sort of nerdy/edgy tattoo.

This semester needs to end 😫😢😓

never underestimate the power of:

• cleaning off your laptop/computer

• changing your sheets

• straightening up your room

• changing out your toothbrush

• drinking water

• changing the lock/homescreens on your phone

• changing your phone case

• changing your pajamas

• putting on chapstick

• washing your face and putting on moisturizer

• putting lotion on your body

Last night I ended up having another anxiety attack before bed. My heart was beating hard and fast and was uncomfortable. I had a stress rash all over my chest. I couldn't stop crying. I had a hard time breathing. I felt like I was going to throw up. It's just the stress of school + not being able to register for a vaccine + feeling pressure from work to in person sub + my grandpa dying about a month ago + my grandma being in the hospital + my mom being the bipolar and manipulative sociopath she is + the whole pandemic. I feel so inadequate sometimes :/
