Samhain is, among other things, the witches new year. We look back on the previous year, let go of what no longer serves us, let go of the phases in our lives/versions of ourselves that have reached their death, and look forward to/plan for what is to come. That's why I decided to make some roasted pumpkin seeds for the New Year aspect of Samhain!
Seeds carry so much potential. Potential for life, rebirth, and abundance. Seeds, to me, represent the natural cycles that we must connect with and live by. Seeds contain the life of next year's abundant spiritual harvest. And all of this potential is well protected inside the seed shell, waiting to sprout. These were made with seasonally corresponding spices that align with my intent.
On Samhain, I'll cast my intent on the seeds I eat, as I invision my goals for the coming year š
-------------------
You'll need:
š 1 cup of pumpkin seeds- potential, prosperity, abundance, protection, manifestation and attraction of wishes, rebirth.
š 3 tablespoons of butter- fulfillment, emotional richness, happiness, nurturing energy.
š 2 tablespoons of brown sugar- sweetness in life, love, happiness.
š Ground Cinnamon- protection, spiritual focus, psychic awareness, love, prosperity, money, health.
š Nutmeg- prosperity, money, health, psychic awareness, love, happiness.
š Ground Ginger- health, balance, grounding, love, money, success, clarity.
š Allspice- health, luck, abundance, prosperity, money.
š Salt- protection and purification.
š Black Pepper- banish negativity, protection.
The spices don't have measurements because they're all to-taste :) add plenty!
--------------------
1. I washed the seeds after gutting the pumpkin and let them dry for a day. If you decide not to do that, make sure you wash off any pumpkin gunk and pat the seeds dry well.
2. Preheat the oven at 350°F. Cleanse your space as you choose.
3. Melt the butter, and add to it the sugar, salt, and spices. Keep in mind the magical properties of these ingredients as you add them, and how those properties will serve your intent for the year to come. Stir counterclockwise as you invision all that you'll be releasing from the past year, imagine it dissipating. Take a deep breath. Then stir clockwise as you focus on attracting all that you want for the coming year.
4. Pour the spiced melted butter over your seeds in a bowl. Mix the seeds to make sure they all get coated.
5. Place the seeds on a baking sheet or a nonstick baking pan, you want enough space for the seeds to be spaced out from each other. Doesn't have to be perfect, just make sure they're not all clumped together.
6. If you had let the seeds dry out, they will be done in about 10-15 minutes. Stir them every 5 minutes. If you didn't let them dry out, they'll be done in about 25 minutes, and still stir them every 5-10 minutes or so. They'll be done when they look caramelized and are slightly crispy.

Independent energy is a type of energy that never loses itās charge or can recharge on its own with little to no help from outside sources.
Personal energy is the energy that your body makes by itself. It is most commonly recharged by sleeping and calorie consumption and can be easily used as a source in most aspects of witchcraft.
Organic energy is derived from life. This includes humans, plants, animals, and some entities. These can be used as sources. Personal energy falls under this category but is distinguished for crafting purposes.
Rooted energy is the most common source to recharge from and it has a substantial or near unlimited amount of energy. This includes planetary bodies, the elements, and the weather.
Artistic energy is a non-sentient type of energy created by an artist. Despite being able to affect the emotions of those who view or listen to it, the energy itself is trapped within the original product. This energy can be duplicated and used as a source for other creations and magical purposes. This includes things like music, paintings, movies, or stories.
Dependent energy is energy that depends on other sources of energy to prevent becoming stagnant with usage over time.
Natural energy is stored in objects not created by humans. It is limited as a source and has to be recharged to keep its individual characteristics. This includes things like crystals, stones, and dead matter.
Manufactured energy isĀ stored in objects created by humans. This includes things like paper, clothing, and machines.
Spiritual energy is created from organic energy sources or nature itself. They heavily depend on other sources of energy in order to maintain themselves. This includes once-living spirits, thoughtforms, and nature spirits.
Programmed energy is a non-sentient energy that is created for a purpose. It can be crafted from any energy source and needs to be recharged in order to continue doing its duty. It can be a free-flowing energy or it can be stored in a vessel. This includes things like spells, curses, and enchantments.
Emotional energy is a non-sentient type of energy created by emotions, thoughts, and words. If fed into, it can turn into an energy parasite. If not fed into, it will neutralize. It can permeate into the world around it or stick to its creator.
Parasitic energy is a non-sentient type of energy and is generally an outcome of sustained emotional energy. It feeds on and encourages the original emotions it stems from and is stuck to a host.
Consumable energy is a non-sentient energy source that is stored in food products. This includes things like harvestable food and crafted food.
The Great Goddess Hecate (Hekate)
Who is Hecate? She is the Goddess of Witchcraft, Necromancy, Ghosts, Magic, and, in some instances, the Night, Darkness, The Mist, and Moon. For some She is also the goddess of motherhood, protection, and the sea. She is a Hellenic deity, born of the Titans Asteria and Perses. Thereās a few beliefs circling around Her being a crone goddess or a Triple Goddess, but those are modern and neopagan beliefsāwhich She predates. I also consider Her to be a part of the Chthonic deities.
Symbology: Black dogs, Wolves, Keys, Torches, Flames, Torches, Crossroads, Serpents, Daggers, Birds of Prey (crows, ravens, owls), the Moon, witchcraft tools (such as cauldrons, tarot, athames)
Offerings & Devotional Acts for Her:
Figurines of any of Her symbols
keys, skeleton keys, lockets
fire witchcraft and candles, flames, matchsticks
dedicating any lunar or symbolic jewelry to Her
black/dark crystals such as obsidian and onyx
nocturnal animal imagery
black/cool colored glitter
baneful/poisonous herbs and plants
pomegranates/berries (She seems to really like blackberries)
dark blend wines
honey, cinnamon, poppy seeds, chocolates (dark)
mugwort, lavender, roses, jasmine, dragonās blood
bones and feathers from birds of prey (please check your local laws about obtaining these)
pinpricks of blood (please DO NOT attempt this if you struggle with self harm/etc, blood magic is particularly strong and isnāt for everyone. She will understand if you cannot offer that to her).
Taking midnight walks, setting up altars and rituals at crossroads, paying respects to the dead and practicing your craft in a cemeteryĀ
Any playlists, poems, literature, whether it be your own or just a piece you associate with Her, also make wonderful offerings.Ā
Lunar Influences & Connections: Reaching out to Hecate tends to work best at night, and really any time the moon is at itās peak. The Witching Hours, midnight to 3A.M., during strong lunar influences (blue moons, blood moons, eclipses, new moons, etc) all hold strong bonds with Hecate. Also, any time it is particularly foggy or your surroundings are covered in a mist is a good time to try to connect with Her.
Disclaimer: These are correspondences that have been gathered through my personal experiences working through my craft with Her. If you find She responds better to different offerings/during different times, by all means, stick to it! Your bond with Her is your own and should be cultivated in whichever way works best for you and Her. Thank You!
Also called Technopaganism, Tech Witchcraft can be defined as the use of modern technology within magical rituals and other forms of witchcraft.
To me (but everyone has their own opinions), itās really about accepting that the world is changing quite rapidly, and placing technology at the heart of my spirituality by using my computer and mobile phone in my craft - from finding resources, sharing knowledge, meeting fellow witches, etc.
It might seem in strong oppositions with the environmental and traditional values of witchcraft, but I donāt see them as opposite. On the contrary, there is power in using technology for good, and I intend to do so.

Moon is a very simple and straight-forward app telling you the current moon phase according to your location. Ideally, I prefer actually checking the moon phase in the night sky, but as I live in a city, the moon is not always visible, so this app helps me a lot!
Labyrinthos is amazing for Tarot learners as it allows you to learn the meanings and correspondences in a Duolingo kind-of way. You can also draw cards directly on the app if you do not have your Tarot cards with you, or enter the cards you just drew physically to keep track of your previous readings.
Co-Star is a beautifully designed astrology app creating your birth chart, and giving you a hyper-personalized daily horoscope made from an algorithm that is just a bit wonky - but super fun!
Seek is a useful app for all the green witches out there as it allows you to identify wildlife, plants, and fungi with just a picture. Incredibly useful when you are in nature, or in stores, and you donāt know the exact name and properties of a plant that youād like to harvest or buy.

Iāve been waiting since last Christmas for my local Dollar Tree to stock the diy snow globes so I could put my master plan into action. The time has finally come!
Last year I created this:
Now Iām gonna step it up a notch and create this:
Lets go!
Diy Globe kit
Sparkle glue or Sparkles and Veg Glycerin
Waterproof LED Tea lights
(not pictured)
a drill
a hot glue gun
food coloring
rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer
Bowl
something to stir with
so youāre gonna separate the kit into all its parts and then drill a hole into the lid smaller than the bulb of the tealight.
Slowly push the bulb through the hole to open it up, then take it out, hot-glue the area around the bulb then slide it back in, once its in give it a thin layer of hot glue over where the bulb protrudes. Test that the light still works and will fit into the base without issue.
move to a sink, place the globe into a bowl and add some water and color (best to mix the food coloring in water then add to globe)
add in your alcohol, glitter and glycerin (or glitter glue), then top it off with water put back on the bottom.
Thatās it!
Happy Scrying
