I know it’s been said but, damn, I really do hate the way the show turned what was supposed to be a story about how the Targaryens ate themselves because of ego, about two spoiled yet neglected brats wanting to be The One despite already being the most powerful people in the world who horde wealth and ride dragons while average people struggle to find enough to eat and turned it into “Meanie Hightowers attacked the innocent, perfect dragons-and-incest family” just reinforcing the very same arrogance, short-sightedness, and exceptionalism of not just the Targaryens but this whole system that GRRM was trying to criticize.

I think what makes me adore Alicent so much here is that, for better or worse she refuses to give up. She refuses to call Rhaenyra Her Grace or Queen at this moment of triumph for her, but instead basically calls her a rat who will not have Kingslanding for long.
