So here's a twitter thread about the study I made some art for last year! Maddy was researching children and adolesents' methods of data gathering and taking on advice for her PhD. As part of that, she made a little game in which kids would count or guesstimate how many of each type of alien was on a little planet, and rate their confidence in that decision, every now and then getting advice from a little cosmonaut or on a screen. I was commissioned to make the assets for that! The tricky part was designing a large number of colour schemes that even children who potentially had colour blindness could pick out.

life drawing! trying a little in the top one to move away from realism into exaggerated forms, and it’s proving tricky haha (the top one was started in pencil but the bottom two were straight into pen)
I made a font! During a project the other year I decided I hated every free ‘Ancient Greek’ style font available for their many sins - looking like the typeface equivalent of medieval drawings of foreign animals, using Σ for E, being mashed up with rune-style fonts like heorot, having either only a greek charset or only a latin charset… so I thought I’d try making one myself. A font family, in fact: there are 8 total sets, one group monospaced, one group kerned. The 4 styles are: round/regular, heavy, light and ‘engraved’, a 3D-ish effect. You can download them from here

Apparently drawing self-portraits as crystal gems is a thing now
Crystal: Opal (birthstone wow original) weapon: grappling hook
Also known as Fried Egg Jellyfish, this particular specimen was found by a coast of the Aegean Sea, by Cape Sounion. (The cyan light is from the bucket we placed it in)
Must not be confused with the other "Fried Egg Jellyfish", the Phacellophora camtschatica, which is of a different genus, can get much larger, and has "normal" tentacles, as opposed to the Cotylorhiza Tuberculata, with its root-like tentacles, giving it its name ("rhiza" being the Greek word for "root" and "cotylo" being "stem".)

whoops my hand slipped
It's Kimbra again
but this time dressed as Esmeralda! In all her interviews she talks about how her dresses are inspired by Disney Princesses, so since she has her trusty tambourine with her at every concert, I just could not resist.
Aberford by sketchypandagames : aka what I’d actually spend time doing and actually properly researching if I actually had time and wasn’t on the wrong side of the Atlantic
I will take it personally if there is no Googie architecture in this game. Or if you dont hire a graphic designer who makes the most of a word like Aberford which is an absolute delight typographically.
this did not go in the direction I expected.
