行きます|つもり|ようと思う Hey Guys, It’s Been A While Since I’ve Made A Post On

行きます|つもり|ようと思う Hey guys, it’s been a while since I’ve made a post on this blog! I’ve been so busy with university and then as soon as my last exam was over I traveled back home to see my family! I finally have some time to myself so I thought I’d make a new post! This is all about how to say doing something in Japanese. This post won’t go into too much depth regarding these sentence patterns, so feel free to look them up for more information on how to use them! 行きます・Going to do: To say, “I’m going to__” in Japanese, you can follow this sentence pattern. Sentence pattern = subject+を+verb stem (ます form without the ます) +に+行きます・行く。 e.g. 何をしますか?        What are you doing?        映画を見に行きます。        Going to see a movie. つもり・Plan to do: But what about how to say you intend on doing something, or you plan on doing something? In that case, you can use つもり! Sentence pattern = verb dictionary form+つもり+です・だ。

e.g. 明日は何をしますか?        What will you do tomorrow?        カラオケに行くつもりです。        I intend to go to karaoke. ようと思う・Think I’ll do: To say that you’re thinking of doing something, you can follow this sentence pattern: Sentence pattern = verb volitional form+ようと思う e.g. で今晩こそ早く寝ようと思う。         I think I’ll go to sleep early tonight.

My Japanese supplies

These are my favorite books, textbooks and supplies in general for studying Japanese. Sorry if it’ s a big post.

My Japanese Supplies
My Japanese Supplies

These are my textbooks. The Genki II and its workbook are good for practicing but they have many group activities which suck if you study on your own. The tobira is really good, it has many reading activities and cultural notes but it’s a bit more advanced.  For the living language books, I’d say the advanced one is more intermediate but they’re good for practicing and learning vocabulary.

My Japanese Supplies

These are my dictionaries. Tbh, I don’ t like the essential kanji dictionary, I don’t find it useful. The Japanese Verbs is a really good book, it has all the conjugations and examples and it explains them to you. The picture dictionary is a really fun way to learn more vocabulary.

My Japanese Supplies

These are my readings books. The ones about the cat are really easy to read, the folktales one is a bit harder but still very entertaining and Read real Japanese is more difficult but enjoyable.

My Japanese Supplies

These are the notebooks I use.I use 5mm notebooks for repeating kanji and a normal notebook f everything else.

My Japanese Supplies

These are some extra books that are useful for improving your Japanese and sounding more fluent.

My Japanese Supplies

And at last but not least, I use a lot of flashcards for writing every new kanji I learn. If you have any questions just ask! ❤️

Japanese Saying Of The Week!

Japanese saying of the week!

泣き面に蜂 (なきつらにはち) When it rains it pours; salt in the wound; adding insult to injury

A saying for when something bad happens and then something ELSE bad happens on top of that.

泣き面(なきつら/nakitsura) crying face

に(ni) at, on, in

蜂(はち/hachi) bee, wasp

So literally bees at a crying face

that is BRUTAL

Like, you’re ALREADY crying

AND THEN BEES

Kanji version of words usually written in hiragana

While these words are usually written in hiragana, sometimes you’ll see them written in kanji instead, so learning to at least recognize them is pretty helpful. Trust me on this, I got confused by 沢山 way too many times already haha

有難う(ありがとう)ー thank you 幾つ(いくつ)ー how many 流石(さすが)ー as one would expect 更に(さらに)ー furthermore, again, after all 既に(すでに)ー already 沢山(たくさん)ー a lot 丁度(ちょうど)ー just, exactly, precisely 出来る(できる)ー to be able 尚(なお)ー furthermore, still, yet 何故(なぜ)ー why 等(など)ー et cetera 程(ほど)ー degree, extent, approximately 然し(しかし)ー however 居る(いる)ー to be (people, animals) 有る(ある)ー to be (things) 恐らく(おそらく)ー probably, likely 下さい(ください)ー please (give me, do for me) 只(ただ)ー only,  just; free of charge 及び(および)ー and, as well as

Learning modern languages: Hello! How are you? My name is Josh. I am happy today. Where is the bathroom please?

Learning ancient languages: Life is long and unbearably hard. Each day barbarians slaughter another member of my family. Pirates, sailing swiftly across the wine-dark sea, have kidnapped my sister and stolen our grain. We are starving. Oh immortal gods! Soon we all will die.
