Pleht is uneasily looking at a doorway into a dark room. There are signs of overgrowth within. He digs into his coat (with small "RUSTLE" SFX). Pleht: …Should be okay, just this once. I mean, w-who's gonna know? Pleht: Please understand, Mr. Sardon. Magic swirls around his hand as Pleht prepares a piece of flint and a special ring over his thumb. He flicks (with "flick" SFX), but nothing happens. Pleht: Come on, come on, why isn't this working? It worked just fine yesterday! Pleht keeps flicking, but naught but sparks show up. The flicks (with plenty of "flick" SFX) attract the attention of a creature in a hole in the wall. Creature: chttr? Creature: chtt… chtt… hissss Pleht finally accomplishes his goal, looking at the flame hovering above his thumb, unaware of the large legs above him. Pleht: Ha, finally! Now to… He stops, face full of dread as he realizes there's a giant ladybug behind him.
In this page, tempers keep running.

The comic jumps between Pleht and Brudil's situations. Pleht and Slugfolk: O-oh, sorry… Pleht turned to see the ladybug, who shields its eyes from Pleht's magic flame. Ladybug: SKREE! Pleht: Didn't mean to blind you. Slugfolk (pointing at the Bandaged Slugfolk): It was his idea. Pleht reaches into his coat again, dropping his flint with the other hand and extinguishing the flame. Ladybug: mrrrgh… Pleht: Hey, c-calm down, boy… Brudil is understandably angry at the two Slufgolk. Bandage Slugfolk glares at the other. Brudil: Seriously, what's your problem? Bangaged Slugfolk: Really? Slugfolk: Heh, sorry. I panicked. Pleht pulls out a ladle, but it drops to the floor (with "CLANG!" SFX). Ladybug: chttr? Pleht: Here, look at this floating or- oops! Brudil gets tackled by Bandaged Slugfolk (with "BAM!" SFX), hard enough for her bucket helmet to go flying. Brudil: I mean, if you're gonna ambush me-- OOF! Pleht kneels down to pick the ladle up as the annoyed ladybug watches, while Brudil pushes against Bandaged Slugfolk, her hand reaching back for the axe. Pleht and Brudil both groan. Ladybug: hiss…
In this page, two heroes are oh-so-close to meeting.

Pleht throws the metal ball into the foreground, the ladybug excitedly turning to chase it. Pleht: GO FETCH! Ladybug: skree! Brudil punts the Bandaged Slugfolk into the other Slugfolk (with "PUNT!" SFX), sending both through the open doorway. Brudil: GET OUTTA HERE! Pleht (wiping brow): Whew! Brudil (standing proudly): Well, that takes care of that! Pleht picks up the dropped flint, while Brudil picks her bucket helmet up. Pleht prepares to go through the dark doorway, trying to get his magic flame back up (with "flick" SFX) Brudil puts her helmet back on and turns her attention to the thorny plants once more. Loud banging can be heard from the other door she missed (with "RATTLE" and "BANG!" SFX) Pleht and Brudil: Alright, where was I…?
In this page, Pleht considers the possibilities.

Brudil falls down onto her stomach (with "WHAM!" SFX). Brudil: ACK! Pleht reels back, clutching his shirt. Pleht: What..? Who…? He spies the axe dropped by Brudil. His anxiety spikes as he imagines several monsters that Brudil could be: Mockman: Brudil's head and eyes roll back, and she leans enough for her belly to reveal a gaping maw. Puppet: A marionette Brudil stiffly raises her axe, looking with a lifeless expression. Undead: Brudil shows as a rotting zombie, grinning as she brandishes the axe. All these thoughts hang over Pleht as he sweats nervously.

Caption: The Tower of the late Duke Corpus, west of Everteeter A large image of an old tower can be seen, with panels inset. In the first, we see Pleht nervously peering through a door. The next three show a swinging axe (with accompanying "WHOOSH!" sfx), several wooden stakes embedded in a wall, one of which has pinned a skull, and purple gas coming out of a vent (with accompanying hiss.." SFX) The final panel reveals that Pleht is oblivious to all three, and is in fact too short to have been harmed as he walks through. Pleht (thinking): If I find a trap, my life could be cut short!
Who is/was Sardon the Beige?
Sardon the Beige is a human wizard who resides in the city of Everteeter. He may or may not appear in the future (faster on my site, wink wink, plug plug), but I will say this: he is considered a great hero (a “gosh”, as Brudil would say), but he is getting on in years and is often visibly tired. If one didn’t know about his mighty deeds, he’d likely be called “lazy” and “reclusive”.
In this page of Dungeon Smalls, Brudil finds that flying solo isn't all it's cracked up to be.

At another place in the tower, Brudil crashes through a barred door (with "CRASH" SFX). She is wearing a washboard and a bucket for armor, with a shovel on her back. As she adjusts the bucket to see again, a pair of eye stalks peer at her from above. They quickly move out of sight as she looks, though. Brudil: HALLOOOOOO? A large aphid peers from behind a nearby bush quizzically, but Brudil receives no response as her words echo. Another pair of eye stalks, one eye covered by a bandage, leer at her before once again moving out of sight. Brudil sighs and moves forward into the overgrown room, unaware of the Slugfolk watching her. Brudil (thinking): Man alive, this is lonely…
And here’s a timelapse of my earliest version of my current process, showcased with my fifth page! Again, potential flashing lights warning.
Currently, it’s a little different, but the outline goes like this:
1. Make rough.
2. Solidify panel layout.
3. Solidify dialogue.
3. Make rough sketches.
4. Make speech bubbles.
5. Make lineart, with separate layer of the background lines covering the lines on the base.
6. Colors
7. Shading
8. Other effects.
It’s much easier to manage layers than when I started, and it encourages me to work more quickly to boot!
…later down the line, I mean. I forgot this page was a toughie for me.
anyone remember what these things are called like little cartoony expressive doohickies i think they have a real name but i can’t remember
