Not that I'm still thinking about Graceland (I'm always thinking about Graceland at least a little bit) but I really am mad that they deleted the scene in the pilot where they confirm that Mike has ADHD because it explains and informs so many character choices for him, not to mention the fact that we would have gotten ADHD representation of a character who is clearly intelligent, extremely competent in the field, and taken seriously by others. A lot of time ADHD rep is only there for lazy comic relief and is reduced to "Haha I'm easily distracted hey look a squirrel!" Here we would have gotten not just a solid character, but the PROTAGONIST as good representation.
In the pilot we see Mike taking deliberate notes, fidgeting with his hand exercise tool, repeating words to memorize information, struggling to recall info under stress, being unsure of when his roommates are serious or joking, and working really hard to prove how capable he really is. He has high academic scores, because having ADHD does not mean you can't do well in school. He's clearly worked really hard to get to the place we find him in the pilot. He's set up to be a really well rounded, multifaceted individual with ADHD and then they fucking cut the scene where it's confirmed, so now we're left to pick up the pieces on our own.
I will say though I love that even though the expository scene was cut, Mike still shows a lot of signs of ADHD that come through anyway. I dont know if the writers put that in intentional or if Aaron chose to play him that way, but good job either way. I'm still upset that they cut out the deliberate representation, but what we do have isn't any less important.
