I may be late to this, but I feel like it says a lot about how analog horror is covered at least on Youtube when Angel Hare, which is one of the most hopeful and wholesome analog "horror" series' I've seen, has videos talking about it that look like this:
Like, yeah it has dark elements, but it's not this horrifying dark show that corrupts children. Jonah wasn't manipulated into becoming a serial killer by Gabby, that's a fandom AU not what actually happens.
I may just be overreacting over something minor, but it annoys me that a genuinely fresh and kind take on the "dark children's show" trope where a guardian angel protects a child from their abusive father and comforts them through a TV show is treated almost exactly the same as Generic Spooky Face Jumpscare Tapes #57. It's all about the dark elements that accompany the story, and not the story itself.
Angel Hare actually tells a coherent and complete story about children's entertainment and escapism, which just so happens to have dark elements to it while still being a comforting series. At least acknowledge the story being told, not just the disturbing elements of it for the love of Angel Gabby.
This is a rant, just fair warning.
I feel like turkey tom is a fucking asshole of a youtuber. Any time he covers someone he just HAS to put certain things in a negative fucking light. And with how popular his channel is, I feel as though it's harmful.
He talks ill of transgender people, or puts anything related to trans people in a negative light (For example, the one video about a person named Poppy - I couldn't even get through the video - the introduction of it was that Poppy is transgender, a furry, and has "MPD", and then asks if you wanted a person like that to be your therapist. Like what the fuck?). He talks ill of furries (because having anthropomorphic animals as characters is such a bad thing right? and not just being a mascot for yourself or a story or anything? Like how sports teams have mascots..) He talks ill of any mental disorder out there and just stigmatises it. In the video about Poppy he says that OSDD is just "a mild reform of having multiple personalities-referred to as being 'plural'. The thing is being plural isn't recognised as being a real thing, at least not yet." (direct quote). He's spreading so much false bullshit. After hearing that part I was done with the video but this is not the first video I have heard. It's every single fucking one. I often let youtube just autoplay, and even asking youtube to not recommend that channel doesn't help, as his videos still pop up.
But the issue is he's spreading this hatred and false information to so many fucking people. He has (as of right now) 1.22 million followers. He's not using his platform and audience to do any god damn good. It's just fucking making fun of people. Not even informing or educating. And even if he directly isn't saying things like 'fuck trans people', because he correlates so much shit negatively, the audience might just connect it. The top comments on his videos are usually just full of hateful rhetoric.
When you click on newer comments theres good comments like how they wouldnt trust turkey tom on any mental health topic or like why does he have to be so hateful towards these things - but I feel like these comments get drown out by all the hateful ones.
He spreads misinformation. He spreads hatred. He reels people in with a documentary style video, but seeps the cracks with garbage. Like those videos of people using ramen to fix things. But even then its so obvious.
In conclusion, just. Fuck Turkey Tom. I genuinely dislike him as a youtuber.
Also separating the art from the artist is so easy here because gnf is honestly one of the most boring people ever, what content also? Like genuinely what does he do that leaves you breathless and wanting for more? Shipping him with his freak friends does not count, as you should find new interests, also don't put people you Don't know on pedestals.
oh also. one other thing I’ve noticed about the kister situation is the immediate ocification of his characters and world as an excuse to still enjoy his work. I understand if you had an AU or something that you’ve been working on for like ten trillion years and it isn’t that attached to kisters work anymore. but i just keep seeing jokes about everyone’s “new ocs meerkat heathbar and sussy tables!! now that we hate this white guy content creator I can finally ship them yay yay yippee :]” it’s been one day. If you cannot let go of one piece of media in a sea of other pieces of media that are similar and probably better, or even hold off on making jokes about it for ONE DAY after it has come out that REAL LIFE HUMAN PEOPLE were hurt, I don’t know what to say to you. I just don’t. also. please for the love of god maybe don’t use the ever repeating situation of “famous person uses their fame to commit predatory, dangerous behavior towards their fans who trusted them” as an excuse to make your favorite one note horror whiteguys kiss. not only does it say some not great things about your respect towards creator boundaries (even if it was likely that alex only pushed this rhetoric to make himself look less like the type of person he ended up being, plenty of creators genuinely do have these sorts of boundaries and won’t be happy to see how little people actually care) “situation sucks but I guess some good came out of it because now I get to do (this) with this property” nothing good came out of this for the victims. absolutely fucking nothing.
believe them and support them.
Before I made this post I explored the turkey tom tag and WOW! the amount of people who are fans of this piece of shit is insane! How can anyone be fans of this piece of scraped off gum? Fucking disgusting.
w-wait guys, so your telling me, that scott cawthon, my scottie boy
minecraft “lore” idea: what if the villagers have last names based on their careers (i.e a librarian’s last name could be “Bookkeeper”). When Steve meets the villagers he decides he ought to have a last name, and following the villager custom of a last name being based on what you do, he calls himself Steve Minecraft.
I think one of the biggest problems with the FNaF community right now is that a good amount of the fandom is no longer willing to hold Scott Cawthon accountable.
Like, ever since he announced his supposed retirement, people have been acting like he's a saint who made the perfect game franchise or who has never done shitty things to anyone.
I also think this is a result of this mindset that only good people create good things and that if Scott is a bad person, that also makes FNaF bad.
But regardless, we need to go back to taking Scott back down a peg because he is no longer the humble Christian guy struggling to make ends meet and support his family. He is the creator of arguably the biggest indie franchise in the world. And having that kind of power and influence changes a person. It certainly changed him.
Hello Scott Cawthon.
You have been locked in a room within an abandoned hospital. Thirty six murderous robotic furries with rusty knives are scattered throughout the building and are homing in on your location. In six hours, they will break down the door.
This is an oldie but a goodie, with a twist. The pit in front of you contains the key to the air vents, which is your only method of escape. However, this pit is filled with rusty, syringes. Specifically, one for every dollar that you donated to anti-LGBT+ politicians.
Have fun.
