Yeah disabled characters aren't people they are objects, things to protect and/or look up to. You are "brave" for enduring pain, not that you have a fucking choice in that by the fucking way.

It has to be eighter inconsequential or pretty for that matter as well. No uglyness no pain no loss of emotional regulation...be a pretty and greatfull, greatfull that you are allowed to breath.

this is usually the type of thing i'd keep to my sideblog, but. no. this rant is going on main.

this has already been said many times, but i'll say it again: the culture and portrayal of disability in media and fandom is one of crude dismissal, and it's a reflection of widespread real-world attitudes towards disabled people.

i, personally, am really really sick of it.

from what i've observed, there are two types of disabled character (and, thus, two expectations or preconceptions of real-life disabled people): one who doesn't self-advocate, and one who does.

the disabled character who doesnt advocate for themself is either a sweet, pathetic, repressed little baby who cant make their own decisions and needs to be coddled, or they're a strong, noble, inspiration porn warrior who doesn't actually have it that bad because their disability is actually, secretly a superpower.

or... both. sometimes they're both.

on the flip side, the disabled character who does advocate for themself, in a way that is intrusive and productive and realistic, is either an out-of-touch, entitled asshole, or a dramatic, crazed hypochondriac. or both.

the self-sacrificial, people-pleasing disabled character will be praised and infantilized; they are deserving of respect, and they'll set the standard for what a disabled person should be; while the self-respecting, unapologetic disabled character will be mocked and vilified so long as there is proof of their disability being an inconvenience.

in any case, the character, or at least their disability, is misrepresented and dismissed. the amputee gets a completely functional and unhampering prosthetic. the deaf or blind character adapts all too well to a hearing or sighted world, and in fact develops enhancements to their remaining senses. the disfigured person, in the case that they're not a villain, has great kindness and talent, making their physical differences almost ignorable. the paraplegic makes a miraculous recovery, with no persisting symptoms. the autist, while difficult to interact with, is a savant and a genius. forget chronic pain or fatigue; that sort of issue is invisible, and thus irrelevant. and don't even think about mentioning conditions that impact one's hygiene, digestion, or continence.

ah, and don't forget, all of these things will be used as comedic relief.

it's a culture of overcompensation. disabled people, of course, have no inherent value as people, so their value has to be constructed, and their issues disregarded. we wouldn't want to make viewers uncomfortable, now, would we?

of course, this just speaks to a larger issue; society still expects disabled people to be small and inoffensive, to apologize for the realities of their condition. the ideal disabled experience as shown in media and culture is one of shame and insecurity, and the impact of one's disability on oneself is never nearly as relevant as the impact of one's disability on the world around them. disability is only representable so long as it is palatable to an abled audience, and it is only palatable so long as the enjoyment and novelty of viewing an idealized disabled story outweigh the discomfort of viewing a realistic disabled experience.

Higurashi theory aka my crack Watanagashi theory that might be wrong bc it basically just a gut feeling

Okay here is my theory in short after the (festival) Watanagashi we don't meat Mion we only ever interact w Shion.(I'm at the very begining of Meakashi rn like ch 1)

Let me explain Mion never really comes to or stays for long in school afterwards but when she interacta w Keiichi it feels very different than before (might be related to the doll incident but I don't think that's it) she has that in my opinion very Shion like edg to her that somewhat vindictive/bitch way to it PSA: I don't think Shion is evil she just kind of has that feel to her character. It just kind of feels like none of the heartfelt moments betwen her and Keiichi never happened which would also make sense if it was Shion bc those things she wasn't present for.

About the phone calls: Shion never gives us her number which would make sense if she was for some reason calling from Mion's house which is in a school registry of some sorts idk kind of sus but not really damming evidance.

About Oryo or the "hag" (I love Shion can you tell she is soooo ahhhhhh love her so far) murder now more than ever makes more sense for Shion she hated her so damm much its not hard to see if she was pushed by circumstance (like Keiichi in Tatarigoroshi w Teppei) she would commit it even Satoko's and Rika's murder would make more sense w Shion neighter of them was she particularly close to as far as we know in the story.

And my last bit of evidance basment "Shion" never confirms who she is before dying (the person in the "basment"). And "Mion" (Shion in this theory) pretends to be her self again taken by the police and let go goes to Keiichi's house and stabs him when he comes out (idiot she told she'd be dead and only a demon would take her place but what ever) then goes back to her apartman falls down and dies. So yes everything can and does still work.

Is this a metric fuck ton of reaching yes but I had fun thinking about this and I'd be dammed if I didn't write this out of me. That's it thanks for reading my deranged rambelings I truly lost my way....I think.

Oh for sure I'm reading it not rn but the last time I read it on like may 1st or something and I love it and from the little I've seen of Umineko I'm gonna read it to for sure.^_^

people who don't like the original sprites of higurashi/umineko are weak in my opinion. but i must confess that that used to be me. i too read the novels with the updated sprites first. that is something i will never be able to do undo regardless of how much i paint over the truth. but i saw the light, eventually. i found the earnest love that i had previously tossed aside so carelessly in favor of what i used to consider prettier! all it took was to open my mind just a little bit and consider things from different angles. and soon i was able to appreciate all the little things in the original sprites that the updated ones lack!!

what i wanted to say is, growth is possible. change is okay. read ryukishis novels with his sprites.

I love the ruykishi sprites

Especially compared to the shity steam ones. They just have sooo muuuuch SOUL ugly, deformed, stupid looking souls but beatifull, vibrant, lively souls non the less as an artist they just make me feel such deep love baked into them and surranding them.

Ruby and Sapphire

Ruby goes by they/them, lesbian/sapphic relationship goals with Sapphire. The two of them make a team but Ruby really hates fighting the lunarians not because they don't want to kill them or feel bad about it in the slightest, they just want to be a doctor like Rutile who doesn't want to teach them because they have one doctor and that's enough they don't need more with which Sensei also agreed so back to boring ass fighting (in Ruby's mind for sure). This made them less so jealous of Rutile (not that they aren't) but more so resentful of both Sensei and Rutile. Did they give up tho? No Ruby is nothing if not determind so in short since then they've been banned from infarmary area unless injured as to say they get injured a lot giving Phos a run for their money. So determind, brash and loud. Also because of their treatment regarding their dream they have a bit of a victim complex to boot. They are also autistic bc if there is no good officially rep I'm gonna make mine!

Sapphire/Sapphi she/they, pansexual. She never really did much did her job but never more. They never thought they had to, so when she was given Ruby as their new partner they were surprised by their drive and tenacity to be a doctor. The short of that is that she looks up to them for their determination and drive which leads to her prioritizing their wants insted of trying to find their own. Chill, quiet and unambisous.

I love all the characters so much Keiichi definetly the smartest man in the room Maebara def a specal ed kid too (Tatarigoroshi for my sorce), Rena best autism rep girl Ryugu, Mion I'm gonna force fem Keiichi if that's the last thing I'll do Sonozaki, Satoko master trap maker and best little sister Hojo and Rika I'm gonna be a little depressed shit because I can be Furude. No more characters bc no spoilers for T (WAIT THAT'S NOT HIS NAME WTH he is so sus now), M creepy af rn, S funny and creepy (how both?) and O Himatsubushi actualy makes me like him a little wtf.

My OC Remus, Spy for the Athkatla government sent into Illithid colonies to collect information for the surface. (modern AU) Remus is a refugee from the now destroyed Seadeeps colony. He has since made his way to the surface and accepted government sponsorship to fast-track his integration into the city.

His job is simple, play the role of an ambassador from Oryndoll, infiltrate the smaller colonies and learn as much of their plans as he can. To make his act more believable, a Felmyr colleague named Minerva has been assigned as his thrall to help him stay on track and add a bit of magical protection. While Remus is the face of the operation, Minerva is the only reason anything ever gets done.

Remus's skin is an iridescent plum that darkens into points with no further markings. Clothing-wise, he prefers light colors to stand out against his skin tone and his wardrobe is tight-fitting, well maintained, and has plenty of accessories. Remus prides himself on keeping his body fit, but his muscles are entirely for show.

Personality-wise, he acts cool but is very quick to anger with an addiction for dopamine. He believes himself to be the most beautiful and important person in the room at all times, and assumes his presence is a gift to those who see him. His high expectations, high libido, and terrible personality makes finding partners difficult. He subsists on a line of hollow one-night stands to fill the void and pass the time.
