fire calculations, will be using these to make a life-sized slugcat.
I thought about how big everything in Rain World is, So, I did some calculations to try and figure it out: First off, I needed the size of a slugcat. According to one of the devs, they (the dev) are under 3 slugcats tall, assuming they're average height, a slugcat should be around 60cm(2ft) to 70cm(2'3). Let's go for 65cm(2'2) using this: I can also calculate the size of a pixel, to use for smaller creatures. A slugcat is 38 pixels tall, so a pixel should be around 1.6cm(0.63 inches)
Now that I had my reference points, I started doing the measuring. Note that, of course, creature size varies in Rain World, the specific numbers will be off for other specimens.
First off, the lizards, I'm measuring them head to tail. Green lizards are around 2.2m (7'2). Making them actually small for a crocodilian. Pink lizard was 1.7m (5'9). Blue expectedly came in much smaller at 1.55m (4'11), only slightly larger than real life's smallest croc. The white was 1.65m (5'5) The orange lizard was a far larger at 1.9m (6'3) The mole funnily enough was the same size as the white lizard. Now the red lizard, that one comes in as 3'6m (11'11)... ...Which is actually average size for a crocodile species (I mean, they aren't crocodiles, but they're clearly based on them). My leapzard was 2.1m (7ft). The beige one was 1.8m (6ft), funny, because as I just learned, they have six feet.
Salamander clocked in the same as the white lizard. The turquoise lizard is 2.9m (9'6) What I newly dub the yogurt lizard was 1.6m (5'3) Now, while I was in the beastmaster menu, I spawned what I thought was a blue lizard from the icon. It was not. It was this motherfucker.
4.8m (15'10) It doesn't surpass the saltwater crocodile. But it's close enough. ------------------------------------------ Now! Scavengers, they're basically the same height as the slugcat: 65cm(2'2) Jetfish: their bodies' are around 1.1m (3'7), and the tentacules are around 71cm (2'4), combined, a jetfish is 1.8m(5'11) long, which is my height!
Frogs... There was a bit of a problem with them, because their bodies stretch when grabbed by the mouse, and they're too erratic to measure alive. So, I had to guess by looking, I decided on 58cm (1'11). Their feet are around 78cm(2'7) long. Making it in total 1.37m(4'6)ish. ------------------------------------------------------ Let's move on to some smaller critters: Batflies! A 17.7cm(0'7) body, with each wing being 12.7cm(0'5). An in-between of a bat and fly. A red leech is 53cm(1'9), again surpassing the largest of it's real world equivalent. Green leeches are the same size. Sea leeches are a horrifying 94cm(3'1). Squidcadas are 1.4m(4'7), tentacules included. Snails are around 38cm(1'3). Grappleworms are 55.8cm(1'10). (tongue not included.) A Vulture grub is a lengthy 55.8cm(1'10). Lantern mice are 2.5cms(1 inch) shorter than that. (no tail) Eggbugs' bodies are 66cm(2'2) long, with their antennas being more than double that: 1.3m(4'3), for a total of 1.95m(6'5). Baby noodleflies are 1.1m(3'9) long. I also just realized that I forgot to measure the adults, oops. Dropwigs are actually the same length from head to cerci. -------------------------------------- I'm not measuring coalescipedes or their composing spiders, as they're too varible in their sizes. For the bigger spiders, I actually also measured their actual height, and not just length. Not sure why, it just felt right. Big spiders are 66cm(2'2) long, and 35.5cm(1'2) tall. Spitter spiders are 1'1m(3'8) long, 58cm(1'11) tall. Mother spiders are 76cm(2'6) long, 66cm(2'2) tall. --------------------------------- A vulture's body is 66cm tall, a bit wider, though I forgot to write down the number. With a singular winglength of 2.8m(9'4), longer than the wandering albatross' by a wide margin. I think I remember reading that king vultures are the same size, so I didn't measure them, and the Miró's vulture wasn't any bigger. Talking about Miró, Miró's birds are 4'0m(13'5) tall. Though, they're normally hunched over, reducing their height to around 2'1m(6'10). ---------------------------------------- Centipedes, centipedes, centipedes. Infant centipedes are normally around 38cm(1'3), but when grabbed stretch out to about 94cm(3'1). The adult centipede was 2m(6'6) long. Red was 5.3m(17'6). Even longer than the nightmare lizard! Centiwing: 1.45m(4'10). Centiswim: 3.6(11'11). ----------------------------------------- Now... The weirdos. The things inside the iterators- which from looking into the files I found out are called inspectors -have 65cm cores, their necks were always crooked so I had to guess a little, but I think they're 4.6m(15'2) long. Also they vanish when dead, so I had to use a live one. Brother long legs: same size core as inspector, with the longest tendril being 5.9m(19'6) long, holy hell. Daddy long legs: 1'1m(3'9) core, 10.2m(33'7) longest tendril. Grandpa long legs: 1.5m(5'1) core, and most of the tendrils? I couldn't measure them, because they didn't even fit on the screen. I am thankful I never had to deal with one of these in my playthrough, and probably won't, given the state of the rot. Raindeer! A 1.4m(4'8) body, with 6.5m(21'5) long legs. Making them taller than giraffes. My specimen's left antler was 1.95m(6'5) long. Jellywhales have a bell that's 1.1m(3'8) tall, 4.6(15'2) wide, with a weirdass-ball-thing that's 2.9m(7'10) deep. Annnd leviathans, like GLLs are too big to measure, but if I were to just guess, they're probably like 12m(39'4) long. -------------------------------------------- And, as a little bonus, the train cars are 3.9m(13'0) tall. I was going to do a visual chart, but I'm too tired after everything. I'll probably still do it, at some point, though.
The Pokemon addiction hit me with a brick again so you'll be seeing a lot of that lol
Anyways, here is the crochet Litwick I made, and this is actually my first ever payed pattern :333
Pattern is by Fildeminuit on Ribblr for $5.68 AUD (currently on sale for 2.84AUD at the time of posting this (17/11/2024)) Direct Link Here
I highly reccommend the pattern, it is super easy to follow and I got it done in ~2-3 hours (I have been crocheting for 3 years tho so could be longer for others :3)
I am perfectly normal about this man :)
