I've seen relationships fall apart because of this mentality... while you cant undo it you can certainly chalk it up to a crazy life experience that you shared.

Even if you do your due diligence and talk to each other, roleplay and do everything right... sometimes it can go sideways. Pretending and doing are very different. If it goes sideways then be there for your partner and take care of yourselves and your relationship.... but instead of letting it huant you, celebrate it, laugh about it, laugh at how you both did something crazy and use it to strengthen your bond together, then move on with your lives.
