I ended up finding a REALLY old high school doodle of a character I made when I was about 15-16ish. I haven’t drawn much of him in a while.
It was my 26th birthday last week, and I decided to try to do a speedpaint of the same thing about a month ago in order to get a general idea of the progress I’ve made in the past decade. Overall, it’s definitely and improvement, to say the least, assuming I’m only given an hour or so to pop something out.
I’m quite pleased to see an obvious visual improvement at this point.
(Also, I’m totally not enamored with this character, I swear...even if he is a main protagonist in a story I wanted to write. I’ll try my best get to him later.)
I came up with this a while ago while I was passively listening to a design professor that I’ve had in the past.
Specifically, it started out as a cell-phone doodle, because I have a tendency of pulling up a memo app and doodling whenever I’m upset for some reason. From there, I actually decided to make it in Illustrator, because I could.
I finally decided to finish it today. Also, considering that Age of Ultron is fresh in my memory by a week or so, and Bruce Banner is great, I went with Hulk-inspired colors.
So, I have a Tumblr on the side called @dandyreblogs now. I'll probably modify it to look like my current icon, but slightly different. I'm planning on using it as an aesthetic Tumblr exclusively.
I decided to finish (mostly) an old Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer doodle I had in the depths of my computer a long time ago—but with it being explicit that Rudolph just has issues with allergies and sinusitis. His nose glows because he’s miserable. (I mean, why else would his nose glow red?)
Any way, happy holidays. :D
I ended/paused the stream, and I’m still drawing at the moment, and I didn’t make a whole lot of significant progress on comic stuff beyond “Ohhh, cool boots!”...
...but I ended up revisiting an alien doodle that was somewhere in my backlog of doodles, but without the rastacap on top. I may or may not revisit the idea of a rastafarian grey Alien—because I liked the idea of an alien that says “We come in peace” deciding that Rastafarians are A+ humans and chilling with them.
So, I finally got to making the base vector for my webcomic’s logo...other little fixes aside. Also, this means that the name of this project is out there. :P
(That said, I have learned that it’s actually significantly harder to make wordmarks in Adobe Illustrator that look like wood carvings than it is to do more curvy handlettering in it. Yikes.)
This is more of a WIP than anything...and I haven’t drawn zombies in a while...
...but yeah, I’m drawing a zombie. Specifically, the proto-zombie dude named Herbert from the classic Monkey’s Paw short story.
I’ve been sick and tired of thinking about this, tbh. The original story didn’t really scare me all that much, but I tried. I tried.
I felt like my headphone cords draped around my head would make a neat aesthetic. I was right. Also, I like my face.
Here's a digital painting based off of an old OC I had from late high school/early college.
I wish I had more time to sit down and do more digital painting for my characters, but I tend to be doing design and economics work for college.
So, I’m working on a new page—lots of hands, I’ve noticed. Also, spending a bunch of time drawing rocks was kinda fun. But yeah, this is a wip.
I just realized that I could have easily made an MS Excel spreadsheet for the economic model I usually construct for quoting design, instead of doing everything by hand with a pen and paper.
It would even automatically calculate annual metro-area inflation discrepancies FOR ME if I structured it like that, so that I can just feed it yearly data without worrying about it.
Doing it all on paper is just punching myself in the face.
Greetings and salutations! I'm a graphic designer/illustrator, and this is my Tumblr. Feel free to check my about page for more info about me. Also, I only post my own things here—almost all reblogs will go to @dandyreblogs. Check that out if you're into aesthetics and other curious things.
