Zuko's crew. T_T I'm now convinced every night had some sort of family activity soused with boiler room hooch. Zuko has zero poker face on mahjong night, while Jee wipes everyone clean with his RBF. And let's not forget Zuko and Aang are Azula-lightning-scar buddies, too. In through the chest and out through the back.
SOBBING!! you are so right about everything omg. I mean zuko lived on the ship with that crew for three whole years, and like. ok yeah he was at peak bastard mode during that time but they MUST have bonded in some way!! Mandatory game night at least once a week! zuko might be shitty at table games but they find out he obliterates everyone at charade.
And AAA OMFG DID U READ MY MIND. I DO HAVE a doodle of aang & a very crispy zuko being “mortal wound from azula” buddies lmao. Slapped some color on it just for you. mwah.
(while we’re at it they also have an epic tsungi horn duo going on as a side gig)
Reunion for Dadrius week @sergeantsporks
- younger kid standing on their caretaker's shoes and rocking around. almost like they're dancing or waltzing.
- the thing where the caretaker pulls the kid closer to them by like wrapping their hand around their head and covering their ear and tucking them against them.
- kid sitting on caretaker's shoulders. always a good one.
- "shh, shh, I know, I know"
- any sort of "take me instead" situation, said by either character. devastating.
- dealing with sickness. like obviously the kid getting sick and accidentally calling their caretaker mum/dad/parent in their feverish delirium is super cute and top tier.
- BUT ALSO. hear me out. caretaker getting sick but trying to push through to look after their kid and their kid works super hard to make their job easier or look after them in small ways.
- kid hiding for some reason (minor anxiety or major trauma or anything in between) and the caretaker comforting them or trying to coax them out.
- caretaker sweeping kid up in a big ole bear hug and spinning em around.
- kid hiding behind caretaker.
- "you should be in bed" "I can't sleep" "...alright, get over here, you can stay up for five more minutes"
- caretaker and a maybe slightly older kid arguing and making up.
- caretaker picking up slightly older kid from a party that's gone wrong in some way.
- caretaker who's maybe less like a parent and more like an older sibling. they take their kid to abandoned buildings and eat cheap takeaway/takeout with them.
- caretaker teaching their slightly older kid life skills that they maybe didn't have the chance to pick up on when they were younger.
- or yk just caretaker teaching their younger kid life skills. like trying to get them involved with cooking and lifting them up to help grab things and letting them watch things get cut up and prepared.
- caretaker indulging their younger kid in tea parties with their stuffed animals.
- caretaker looking after a kid's comfort items (bonus point if the kid is older, and double bonus points if the kid is too embarrassed to care for their comfort items themselves).
- younger kid curled up by their caretaker while their caretaker plays videogames. bonus points if the caretaker lets them play like baby mode co-op (like luma in mario galaxy). bonus bonus points if the caretaker is like an older sibling and gives the kid an unplugged controller.
- older kid playing co-op with their caretaker and getting way too invested. bonus points if it's mario kart. bonus bonus points if they're showing each other their favourite games from their respective childhoods (because yk different eras).
- caretaker carrying an exhausted kid to bed.
- better yet, the kid pretends to fall asleep in the car so they can be carried inside (caretaker knows their game but is more than happy to carry them).
- caretaker having a hard day working late and coming home to their kid sleeping peacefully on the couch, clearly having waited for them to come home.
- kid having a hard day at school and caretaker is in the middle of making dinner for them.
- caretaker shielding kid from danger with their body.
- kid refusing to leave caretaker's side when they're both in danger.
i know this is very late due to the amount of stress from school assignments, so im pretty satisfied i've managed to complete this. (was also gonna add stimming onto there, but i got frustrated at the drawing proportions so i figured i'd do it in a separate post in the future)
zukka week 2019 day 5: touch
nothin like a good ol avatar zuko au to soothe the soul
have i ever mentioned how genuinely happy i am that zuko ended up with a daughter. he'd be a great dad even if he had a son but theres no character in atla with stronger girl dad vibes. he just needed a daughter
Found on pinterest. Credit to the artist.
Ok, this definitely can't be a new Zutara headcanon, but if we suppose that Kanna gave her son her betrothal necklace to gift to Kya when he proposed (kind of Crazy Rich Asians style, but without the prior disapproval), wouldn't it make sense for Katara to gift it to Zuko when they get married? Of course, she might not want to give away the only thing she has left of her mother, so I'd still adore the idea of her carving one for him. I always read fics with Sokka doing it for Suki, and you CANNOT tell me it's only a guy-to-girl thing. You know Zuko's devoted, sentimental butt would wear that necklace literally everywhere. We're talking about the boy who kept his uncle's smelly slipper for no discernible reason other than pure sentiment. The jerk-hole war ministers and advisors gasping scandalously would really just be the cherry on top. Also, Katara would just love it. Claiming a tradition historically reserved for Northern Water Tribe men? Getting the chance to further share her family's traditions/culture with Zuko and the rest of the Fire Nation? Sign her the egg up!
I just love the moments when Zuko acts younger than his age due to his severely stunted social skills. like when he’s acting like a bratty preschooler while being gently bossed around by iroh in ba sing se or when he’s trying to socialize with the gaang for the first time.
I mean, let’s be real: Zuko has been starving for the attention of his peers for years, and once he gets his first dose of social approval and acceptance on his field trip with aang, he ends up going a bit off the rails chasing the high of Friendship. like he’s trying SO HARD to be Just A Normal Guy here, but he waaaaay overshoots his mark and ends up going all the way back around to “something’s a litttttle off about this dude” again.
I can’t get over how Zuko, when confronted with the mystifying quandary of how to make friends for the first time in his socially-deprived adolescent life, draws an absolute blank and, with no actual hands-on experience to draw from, simply defaults to “imitate Uncle.”
Zuko’s thought process immediately after joining the gaang was clearly: “I really want these people to like me. Uncle would say that I should just be myself and show them the real me. but that will never work!! I’m not likable!!! …but Uncle is. everyone likes Uncle. obvious solution: just be Uncle and everything will be Fine,” and then proceeded to give his best imitation of iroh down to the tea and bad jokes.
Zuko after possibly the world’s worst punchline delivery: “This is great! I’m going to get a good grade in Being Uncle, a thing that is normal to want and possible to achieve!”
“nailed it”
