Your soundscape is the finishing touch on the whole "vibe" of your home. I have a wonderful housecall client has the local public radio classical and jazz station playing at a soft hum through her house, I remember the first few housecalls after her late husband died and it was silent, but gradually the classical and jazz returned. My childhood best friend lived in an old colonial house, where the hearth in the front room crackled and creaked with a fire from September through March and the nails of some black lab or another through the years clicked alongside the groans of the old hardwood floors and the boisterous noise of both the adults upstairs at their dinner parties and us kids down stairs up to our antics on the Xbox waxed and waned as the nights went on. The kitchen fan hums along in time with the humming of my mother in my childhood kitchen, along with the whine of the not-quite-right bearing in her kitchen aid stand mixer and the slightly deeper and more dull clinks and clangs of her enameled cast iron pots and pans. We are sensory creatures, our minds forming memories from scents and sounds and textures and sights and emotions and tastes all entwined together.

unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.

This is a huge win in the fight against marital rape.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has just made a major ruling in favor of a French woman who was blamed for her divorce because she refused to have sex with her husband.

The woman, whose identity is kept private, had been married since 1984, but her relationship took a dark turn when her husband started abusing her in 2002. Then, she stopped having sex with him.

By 2012, she wanted a divorce, but her husband argued that she was the one at fault for not having sex.

The French courts initially sided with him, but the ECHR finally stepped in, ruling that this was a violation of her rights. The court made it clear that women cannot be treated as "faulty" for choosing not to have sex in a marriage.

Women are not objects in relationships —they are equal partners with the right to consent or refuse. This ruling challenges the harmful belief that marriage comes with a sexual "obligation" and affirms that everyone deserves respect, freedom, and the right to live free from sexual pressure or violence.

Make a list of non-negotiables in your partner. I'm not joking either. Make a list of non-negotiables. Make a list of things you will not do for your partner with the following categories: Never-Dos, Will Not Do Before A Label, Will Not Do Before Rings, Will Not Do Without Marriage. Make a list of must haves and nice to haves as well as the inverse of must nots and should nots. If you want, break it down into categories of men: Male Friends, Men For Casual Dating, Men for Long Term Relationships, Husband Material. Don't even bother dating without building a solid network of platonic, mentorship, and familial relationships. Your familial relationships can absolutely be found family rather than blood, but ensure you have a strong social network foundation before getting into dating. Get comfortable being single, and if a man is having a negative affect on your quality of life rather than a positive one, drop him. Remember that men are on their best behavior for the first 3 months, and if there are problems before that, those problems will be significantly worse. Don't have fuck buddies, and if you do, don't develop feelings for your fuck buddies, and if you do, stop having sex with that fuck buddy. Do not chase these men. They are not worth it. The right men will work their ass off to be with you, and will do the work necessary to be with you if you call them on their shit and send them away to fix it. Do not be someone who's bar is in hell. These are grown ass adults and need to behave as such.

I sincerely don't want to get involved in the celibacy discourse but I will say this as a 35 year old bisexual woman. If you are a woman in your twenties who is attracted to men: Do not chase a man. Any man. Under any circumstances. He isn't special. There will be others. In chasing him, you will lose yourself.

warmly,

auntie Shellstrop

All of you talking about how republicans are literal Nazis sure have been quiet as a literal pogrom is happening in Amsterdam just hours after the commemoration of Kristallnacht

All of this! I love natural materials; they last beautifully, are easy to mend on your own, and don't look dingy after 3 washes. The only real problem is you must learn how to do laundry properly rather than dump all of your clothes together into the washer with 2 tide pods and then blast them with the dryer 1-3 times. Like... A waxed cotton canvas barn coat is significantly warmer than my polyester polyfill jackets on drippy dark hikes, wool & cotton socks don't give me blisters, silk (actual silk, not nylon and elastane) stockings don't give me rashes on the backs of my thighs. Natural materials are your friends!

Idk exactly how to explain this but the softness of real wool and real linen is very different from the artificial softness of polyester “sherpa”, fuzzy faux-fur, spongey acrylic knits and people have gotten too used to the soft plastics and now associate wool with “itchy” and linen with rough and cotton with “too heavy” and then go and wear 100% polyester fleecy sweatshirts and say it’s so warm and cozy but actually they’re just staticky cooking in their sweat locked inside a plastic membrane and you are paying too much to be wearing filaments of petroleum products and the money isn’t going to the people sewing them either. I’m saying you all need to touch grass and the grass in this situation is good quality textiles made of natural fibres.

PA Rennisance Faire was so much fun this weekend. There was a ton of thought and design put into the shows and storyline. BoyToy and I had tons of fun goofing off together and trying out new swords, eating turkey legs, jerkeys, kettle corn, and pickles. We ended up not drinking this year (which is admittedly a bit unusual for both of us) and instead opted for lemonades and waters. My POTS did act up with the warm weather, but between Phobos and BoyToy helping me manage it, it didn't put too much of a damper on the day. We didn't get a ton of photos, mostly just too caught up in it all. Overall, a very very good day, and "One of the best dates I've ever been on" according to BoyToy.
