Nekoma x Reader; manager!reader

You Won’t Be Alone

Nekoma X Reader; Manager!reader

“You need to join a club— something. Anything!”

Your parents' concerns rang loud in your head. It wasn’t your fault you had to move schools in the beginning of your second year. You had friends, you had clubs and things you participated in. Now you had nothing. A few friendly classmates, sure, but that was all.

Clubs were almost entirely filled at this rate anyways, and anyone that was still accepting members meant you had to go meet new people who already formed their own groups. You’d be the outcast, more than you already felt like you were.

Idly, you kicked at a rock that was laying on the ground beneath your feet; you were trying to kill time, hoping to brainstorm some solution before you made your way home.

The art club? There were some mediums you were decent at, but you also saw some of the showcases from other students— safe to say that club had some artists that would most definitely be studied in the future.

What about the literature club? While you enjoyed reading, something about reading at school made the notion far less fun. Not to mention you had met the club leader earlier that month, and while nice, she was intimidating.

Grumbling to yourself, you stopped walking, leaning against one of the building's walls, watching birds fly overhead. They cawed at each other, and the group in the sky made you feel more alone.

Great, you mused, jealous of birds now.

Your thought process was interrupted, rather sharply, as you watched a ball come flying out of the building you had been leaning against. Lucky for you, you were nowhere near the door— the speed at which the ball hit the dirt would have definitely bruised you.

Pushing forward, you decided to be a decent person, picking the ball up and moving slowly to the open gym door. You hadn’t made a point to pay attention to any of the teams your school had, not out of disdain but mostly fear.

If you showed any interest your dad would definitely force you to partake in some way.

“Um,” You stopped at the entrance of the door, holding the ball tightly in your arms, watching as the people before you continued moving.

Volleyball.

One of the people, one of the coaches you supposed, noticed you, coming over to retrieve the ball.

“Thank you,” He spoke softly, smiling at you, his eyes crinkling behind his glasses, “They’ve been a bit overzealous lately.”

You nodded, handing the ball over, your eyes drifting back to those practicing.

You recognized one of them, some of them were in your year.

Fukanaga Shohei. You and he weren’t close by any means, but he was funny.

“They’re good, aren’t they?”

The coach's voice made you jump, cheeks flushing as you realized you had been staring.

“Oh— I’m sorry!” You turned, bowing in an apology, “I just…”

He smiled at you, “I’m coach Naoi.”

You introduced yourself, “Second year. I actually just transferred here a few weeks ago.”

“I hope the school’s been treating you well.”

You smiled, “No complaints yet.”

“Oi, Naoi!” The pair of you turned, the older coach having caught on to his assistant being distracted, “Care to invite your guest in?”

His shouting caused the team to look over, a lul in their practice as they took in the presence of an outsider. Your face felt like it was on fire.

“Oh— no! I’m so sorry! I was just returning a ball!”

Naoi chuckled, “One second,” He turned to you, eyebrow raising slightly, “You can come watch if you want.”

“I— I wouldn’t want to impose,” You crossed your arms, still feeling the gaze of the team on you.

“Are we getting a manager?” The question sounded more like a shout, and one of the members clutched his chest rather dramatically, “Take that Karasuno!”

“If you don’t scare her off with your shouting,” He either hadn’t heard the dig aimed at him or didn’t care.

Cautiously, you removed your sneakers, sock covered feet against the floor beneath you as you followed behind coach Naoi, keeping your gaze lowered.

“Well?” The older coach turned his attention back to his team, “Get on with it! Yamamoto, get up.”

You took a seat next to him, shoes laid across your lap, bag pressed close to your calves.

“Coach Nekomata,” He introduced himself to you, barely taking his attention from his team, “You join any clubs yet?”

“Oh, uh,” You swallowed, your throat suddenly dry, “No. Not yet. I haven’t found a good fit yet.”

“Lev, your receives still suck.”

“Yaku!”

You focused your attention forward, watching as the taller guy, one you somehow hadn’t noticed yet, got scolded, his shoulders drooping into himself.

“You have any interest in volleyball?”

You side eyed the man, his posture relaxed and unbothered, and you heard Naoi sigh from your other side.

“I… think it’s an interesting sport.”

“Oh?” He sounded amused, “Just interesting?”

You watched the balls fly around the court, people yelling out praises or playful insults at one another, “Yeah. Only ever seen it on TV a few times.”

“Hm,” He nodded, saying nothing more.

The three of you lapsed into silence, merely watching as the warmups switched, and you felt yourself losing tension in your body. Watching them was entertaining, the way they played and talked— they made it look fun.

They were all drenched in sweat, heavy breathing, some of their forearms looked red as did their knees. But they were smiling and laughing, though winded they may be.

“Yamamoto, the loudmouth, is right in his own way,” Coach Nekomata’s voice seemed to snap you back to reality, and you turned to look at him curiously, finding his attention already on you, “We could use a manager. Lord knows I could use the help with these hard heads.”

“Kenma, set it up!”

The one that had shouted when you came in was, once again, shouting. You didn’t know how to respond to the coach, so you turned, watching as the one with longer dyed hair set the ball, and the loudmouth, Yamamoto, went running forward.

He jumped, and in a split second, hit the ball over the net, the sound echoing in the gym, and you swore you felt the air from the ball move your hair.

“Woah,” You almost whispered the simple praise to yourself, unaware of the smug look on Coach Nekomata’s face, and the bemused one on Coach Naoi’s.

You licked your lips, turning away from where Yamamoto was singing his own praises, “Would I learn?”

You clarified, “If I… became a manager. I’d have to learn how volleyball works, first. Then how to actually be a good manager. I— I don’t have experience with either of those.”

Nekomata smiled at you, a kind look on his face, “Our team does one thing best above all else— connecting. If you become our manager, you wouldn’t be learning on your own, you won’t be alone. This I promise.”

You sighed, looking back towards the court. They seemed to be taking a small break, the unnamed members talking and joking, the one who had set the ball was getting his hair messed with, though he looked annoyed, he didn’t move away to stop it.

You won’t be alone.

That sounded… nice.

“How do I apply?”

⋆˚。⋆୨✧୧˚ 𝑲𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒐 𝒙 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓 ˚୨✧୧⋆。˚⋆

𝒮𝓊𝓂𝓂𝒶𝓇𝓎: When your crush, Kuroo, agrees to help tutor you, neither of you anticipated the freak snowstorm that would trap you at his house.

⋆˚。⋆୨✧୧˚ 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝑶𝒏𝒆: 𝑺𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝑭𝒂𝒍𝒍 ˚୨✧୧⋆。˚⋆

"God, please," You felt your brain quite literally throbbing in your skull, "Stop talking for five seconds."

You didn't have to lift your head from your hands to imagine the look on Kuroo's face; a stupid mixture of smug, concern, and amusement. Every time you were subjected to that stare you were tempted to slap it off of him. Or kiss it off of him. One would more than likely result in the end of your friendship, so you kept your lips to yourself.

“Oh come on,” You heard him try and hide his laughter, and doing a poor job of it, “It’s really not that hard.”

“Says you,” You glared at him through your fingers, “Mr. Know-it-all.”

He rolled his eyes, putting the pencil that he was twirling down, “You were starting to get it earlier.”

“Then you started adding to it!” You took one of the crumbled sheets from the floor and threw it, watching as he did nothing but let it bounce off his head, “And you just thought because you get it, that I would too!”

He laughed, deep and loud, and you ignored the flutters in your chest, the way the sound was enough to make your hands sweaty. He leaned back on his palms, “We can call it if you want, the test isn’t till next week anyways.”

You nodded, conceding. “I think if we continue my head will quite literally explode.”

Laying your head on the little table he set up, you let your eyes shut for a moment, the warmth of his room soothed your body, while the coolest of the desk soothed your head. You startled, doing your best not to jump when you felt his fingers move through your hair, hesitantly. It was silent for a few moments, the movements of his hand was soft and light, and the headache you had felt coming on was disappearing.

“We wouldn’t want your head to explode,” He spoke finally, tone teasing but voice soft.

You grumbled, not having a snarky retort or quick jab. You didn’t want to move, but you knew you had to. With a heavy heart, and an over the top, loud groan, you lifted your head up, rubbing at your eyes.

Kuroo was watching you, quiet, not wanting to interrupt the brief moment of tranquility that had fallen upon the two of you. You were clearly tired, still clad in your school uniform, though you had stolen one of his hoodies. He was hoping you forgot to give it back to him, and continued to do so going forward. He hoped you forgot for a good while.

“Ugh,” You stood up, stretching your legs out, “You gonna be a gentleman and give me my bag?”

He rolled his eyes at the sarcasm, but moved regardless, grabbing your bag from his bed. You didn’t ask, but he started packing your notebooks away for you.

You pulled your phone out to check the time, moving to grab your bag from Kuroo, before pausing. You had a several missed calls from your father, as well as unread texts. Telling Kuroo to give you a second, you put your phone to your ear, calling your dad back.

He opened his door, aiming to give you some privacy, jumping as he nearly walked into his mom standing in the hall way. Her hand was raised, as if she was going to knock on his door. He raised an eyebrow towards her questioningly.

“Oh,” She looked mildly worried, “I was hoping she had gone home by now.”

He was grateful that you were on the phone and not standing there, narrowing his eyes, and his mom, realizing how her sentence may sound, quickly waved her hands.

“No, no, not like that! You know she’s always welcome over! I just meant—”

“Snow storm?” Your voice was sharp, cutting off whatever his mom was going to explain.

He heard the sound of his curtains opening, and he turned, seeing the sheer amount of snow outside. There was at least half a meter of snow on the ground, if not more, and the snow was still heavily falling.

He heard his mom sigh, “The weather report says it’s going to keep snowing throughout the night too, and because it came out of nowhere they can’t get any plows or trucks out to clear the roads.”

Whatever conversation you were having with your parents had finished, and you walked over to Kuroo, looking both stressed and rather frazzled.

“Neither of my parents can get over here to get me,” You sighed, tucking your phone into the hoodie pocket, “And they don’t want me trying to walk home.”

“Heavens no,” Kuroo’s mom shook her head, “Neither of you are stepping foot out there any time soon. Honey, you’ll stay here tonight. And however long it takes for them to clear the roads safely enough for either your parents or I to take you home.”

You felt your cheeks warm up lightly, “Oh, I wouldn’t want to impose—”

“It’s not imposing, dear.”

“What other option do you have?”

You laughed lightly as Kuroo’s head was smacked, his mother sending a scolding look his way for his comment, “I’ll go grab you some of my pajamas dear, give me a moment.”

“Aw,” Kuroo turned to you as his mom walked off, “Our first sleep over.”

Rolling your eyes you half heartedly raised your hands in faux excitement, “Yay.”

He pouted, and you weren’t fast enough to avoid his stupidly long arms, wrapping you in a too tight hug that nearly swept you off your feet, “Don’t worry— Kenma says my snorings gotten better.”

“I’ll smother you in your sleep,” You threatened, voice muffled from his shoulder digging into your cheek.

He let you go, but you weren’t able to get your footing, swaying and nearly falling backwards. His arms retightened, this time around your waist to keep you from toppling over.

“Sorry,” The teasing tone was gone, and for a moment he actually sounded sheepish, and you tilted your head up, ready to scold him.

Your noses were millimeters apart, and this close you could feel his breath against your face. With anyone else it would be uncomfortable, but with Kuroo it felt… nice. He smelled like the coffee he had gotten on his way home, and whatever cologne or deodorant you had begun to associate with him.

"I found- oh!" The sound of his mothers voice startled the two of you, and his arms quickly released you, doing nothing but allowing you to lose your balance.

Thankfully you caught yourself, both your faces warm, and his mother stood in the doorway, some folded-up clothes in her hands, "I'll leave these here," She placed them on the dresser, closer to Kuroo's door, moving to walk back downstairs, "Keep the door open tonight!"

She called the last bit over her shoulder, and you watched with amusement, and your own embarrassment, as Kuroo's face reddened more, calling after his mom in shock.

You and Kuroo had been friends for years, ever since middle school. You and Kenma got along, but you both knew Kuroo better than the other. Though you and the blonde weren't above teaming up against the older one.

"Sorry about her," He rubbed the back of his neck, "She's... well..."

You waved him off, laughing quietly, "It's fine. She means well."

The silence between you two felt a bit more awkward now, neither sure of what to say to break the tension. You moved first, grabbing the clothes, "I'm going to go change."

Kuroo watched you scurry off to the bathroom, waiting till you were out of earshot before groaning, burying his face in his hands, and falling onto his bed. A ping from his phone distracted him, and he checked it, no surprise at seeing Kenma having messaged him.

snow storm tonight

really? had no idea it interrupted our study session

you mean study date?

it wasn't a date! i'd take her on a better date than studying for chemistry NOT that i'm saying i want to take her on a date

you're a bad liar even over text

i'll make you run laps with yamamoto next practice

He watched the text bubbles pop up, Kenma no doubt cursing his entire existence in the safety of his bedroom.

you're cruel

He snorted at that, ready to respond when-

just tell her you like her please the pining is hurting all of us it's sickening

"Should I be concerned your mom has cute taste when it comes to pajamas?"

Your voice startled him, despite fully hearing you wander back down the hall to his room. He threw his phone back onto his bed, panicking that you'd, somehow, read the texts from all the way in his doorway. You didn't, and wouldn't have, but you were now suspicious, eyeing him weirdly.

"Everything good?"

"Just dandy," He smiled, trying to convey some type of calm attitude, "Just texting Kenma."

You nodded slowly, folded clothes in hand, and you moved, placing them with your bookbag, "Hopefully he's trapped at home and not somewhere else."

Kuroo snorted, "He's at home. Probably already playing whatever game he got recently. No school, no practice, it's his own personal heaven."

You laughed, organizing your items meticulously. He was very aware of the buzzing of his phone, no doubt it was still Kenma, calling him a coward in some form of the word. You were talking to him, something about school, or practice, or literally anything, but he couldn't hear you very well. His heart rate had yet to slow down since you wandered back in, Kenma's texts still in his mind.

just tell her you like her

It sounds so simple, yet as he sat on his bed, staring at you, it felt anything but. You were everything he liked in a girl, and even more. You were snarky and sweet, you got along with Kenma and Kuroo's parents, you didn't fully understand volleyball but you went to games to cheer them on whenever you could. You were dedicated and kind, but you were also so quick to put Kuroo in his place whenever it was needed. Which, according to Yaku, was a lot.

His thoughts were on a roll now, a runaway train where you were the only passanger.

" - are you even listening to me?"

"Are you free next weekend?"

His question came out almost as a shout, and it stunned you for a moment. You had been telling him about the stupid drama going on in your foreign language class, gossip he normally was absorbed in, but he was far away, stuck in whatever thoughts were going on in his mind. He had gotten fidgety where he sat, staring at you.

"Next weekend? Why?" You looked at him, trying to understand the anxiety that was creeping over him; a rare look for him.

"Like... Saturday?"

"I should be?"

"Doyouwanttogoonadate?"

“Do I—” You processed it a second after you started asking the question, face burning, heart hammering.

A date? He was asking you on a date?

“I—”

He turned away, forcing his gaze to focus on the heavy snow still falling outside, thicker on the ground than it had been minutes ago.

As subtly as you could, you grabbed a bit of skin between your fingers and pinched, the sharp pain sending prickles through your arm. Not dreaming. Okay.

Holy shit Kuroo just asked you on a date.

You licked your lips, noting the way he sat tense, as if waiting a blow up or rejection, “As long as it’s better than studying for school, yes.”

His head snapped towards you, eyes wide before the shock melted away, a giant grin forming on his face. “I dunno— I’d say we have pretty great chemistry together.”

“I take it back.”

“Nope!” He nearly leapt off his bed, crowding your space, “No take backs! We’ll go on a date next week. No studying, no text books, hopefully no getting stuck somewhere because of a snow storm.”

His energy was contagious, and soon you found yourself giggling with him, laughing at absolutely nothing.

“I really will need you two to sleep with the door open tonight,” His mom’s voice startled you two again, and you laughed, a bit sharp and surprised as he turned towards his door, calling out a sharp, “Mom!”

Misguided Hearts

Part Two Here: The Blind (No Longer) Leading the Blind

You didn’t consider yourself a jealous person by nature. That was a trait that had long been knocked out of you. When you were younger, almost too young to remember, you had been envious over the simplest of things. Good food at every meal, three meals a day, a warm bed during the winter, the kids at your school having friends and family.

Those feelings were so old they felt like dusty memories, your parents doing all they could to make sure you never had to deal with those feelings or memories again.

In their own way of course, your dad’s love languages were one you had to grow attuned to.

Jealousy was a green eyed monster you hadn’t felt in what felt like eons, so it was annoying for you to realize that the tight feeling in your chest was, in fact, jealousy.

Not that you’d ever admit it out loud.

No, you’d rather stick to glaring when no one was looking, and bottling up the anger and insecurities that festered in your mind.

You hadn’t realized, however, your glare had been turned upon your teacher, who thankfully was unaware of your stare. Your friends, however, were not.

Erasa’s hand waving in front of you brought your attention back, and you soon realized that everyone was filing out of the classroom. The blonde gave you a worried look, “Jeez you okay? I know class isn’t fun but you look like you wanna kill our teacher!”

You chuckled nervously, picking up your belongings, you and Erasa scurrying down the steps to get to the door, Gohan and Videl already waiting for you two, talking quietly amongst themselves.

“Just have a lot on my mind I suppose.” You mused, smiling as Gohan and Videl’s attention shifted to the two of you.

Gohan’s eyebrows furrowed at your statement, “Everything okay?”

“Yeah, was just,” You pursed your lips, pretending to be mulling over your thoughts instead of coming up with a believable lie, “Thinking about a conversation mom and I had earlier. Some stuff about working for Capsule Corp after I graduate.”

“Hey that’s pretty cool!” Videl playfully punched your arm, “You and your mom are certified geniuses— you’ll rule over the science world as mother and daughter!”

Despite the still simmering jealousy, you couldn’t help but laugh at her quip, “Yeah, see what else we can shove in a capsul.”

Erasa gasped, “Do you think you can make me a portable makeup vanity?”

“I mean… I guess so?” The blonde beamed at you, wrapping her arms around your shoulders with a tight squeeze, “I’d have to run it by mom and see if she’d let me use her lab but—”

“I’ll wait as long as I have to for it! A personal build from you? Everyone will be jealous!”

It took you a moment, reeling from Erasa’s tight embrace, to notice that Gohan and Videl had trailed off behind you two, whispering quietly. Gohan’s face was bright red. You knew he was easier to fluster, but this was a level you hadn’t truly seen before. Videl looked amused but annoyed, a rare fond and soft look in her eyes.

“What do you think they’re talking about?” You kept your voice level, the simmering jealousy growing to a bubbling boil.

Erasa glanced behind you, pouting when she realized Videl wasn’t by her side again, “Probably something secret.” She sighed, “They’ve been hanging out a lot lately.”

“Oh?”

You glanced at the blonde who was staring wistfully at Videl, “Yeah. Gohan’s been putting a pause on our girl time! He doesn’t even paint her nails, look at them! They’re all chipped and peeling ‘cause she hadn’t been to mind in like a week!”

You hummed, seeing the moment the pair realized they were being watched, smiling sheepishly at the two of you, “Must be important, whatever they’re talking about.”

Erasa huffed, “Can’t be that important.”

But from the way Gohan’s blush had yet to die down as the walked back to you two, you had a gut feeling that wasn’t true.

“What about a capsul boba shop?”

“Erasa that’s not really a necessity?”

- - -

“What’s got you so down in the dumps?”

You lifted your head from where it had been buried in your pillows, bleerily looking over to your door. Your mother was leaning against the door frame, arms crossed with a soft, worried smile on her face. Huffing, you sat up on your bed, holding your plush dragon Gohan had won for you when you were younger. He said it reminded him of his dragon companion, Icarus, and you two had dubbed this one Daedalus.

“Nothing.”

She rolled her eyes, stepping into your room with a huff, “That’s a lie and we both know it.”

You didn’t respond, opting to flop backwards, falling onto your bed, glaring up at the ceiling.

“You know Trunks has even noticed you’ve been acting weird,” You felt the edge of your bed dip, your mom’s gentle hand shifting some stray hairs from your face, “I had to tell him he can’t just go fight random people at your school. He thinks you’re being bullied.”

Despite the negative cloud dampening your mood you couldn’t help but snort, “As if anyone there could bully me.”

“That’s right,” She grinned, “Me and your dad raised you too well to be picked on. You’d just kick all their asses.”

There was a lapse of silence over the two of you, your mom studying your features, you trying to figure out how to bring up your dilemma without creating a huge deal.

Finally you opted on a question, “Mom— did dad ever like… have interest in other women? Before you?”

She blinked, clearly not expecting a question like that to be shot her way, and she snorted, “Honey, despite a select few your father still can’t stand humans. It was hard enough to get him to look at me, no, he wasn’t interested in any other women. And his team before here was all men, and he doesn’t swing that way. We all had our thoughts with his obsession with Goku but…”

You just groaned, that was not that answer you had been hoping for. Your mother picked up on that.

“When I was dating Yamcha I had to deal with that,” She offered.

“Yeah well Yamcha thinks he’s some golden boy player,” You rolled your eyes, hugging Daedalus closer to you.

“You’re not wrong.” She paused, waiting for you to meet her gaze before asking, “Is this about Gohan?”

Your cheeks burned before you could even answer, eyes widening with embarrassment, “Mom!”

She started cackling, “Oh my— I was right!”

You sat up, hitting her side with the pillow you had been laying on, “Stop it— stop laughing at me!”

“Honey I’m not laughing at you!” She stopped your assault, “Chichi and I have been talking about this since the two of you became friends if I’m being honest.”

You wrinkled your nose, pout forming on your lips, “Yeah well… I think he’s into Videl.”

She blinked at you, head tilting curiously, “That’s Mr. Satan’s daughter, right?”

“Yeah. They’ve been hanging out a lot one on one lately. According to Erasa they’ve been getting lunch after school and studying together in the library.” You huffed, dramatically falling so your head was resting on your mother’s lap, “All those pre-date type activities high schoolers do.”

“Studying was not a pre-dating activity when I was in high school,” She muttered under her breath, and you glared up at her, “Right. Not helpful. Well— they could just be hanging out? As friends?”

“I mean— I guess. But Erasa seems to also think it’s something more.”

Your mom ran her fingers across your hair, a gentle motion she started doing when you were younger and would wake from nightmares. You felt the tension bleeding out of your body, shoulders untensing as she continued.

“It makes sense, doesn’t it? She’s Mr. Satan’s daughter. She’s all into fighting and sparring— she’s strong and she’s gorgeous.”

“You act like you’re not strong and gorgeous.”

You grumbled, cuddling into your mother, opting to not respond. She sighed, “I know these feelings suck right now, but I think you’re reading too much into it. Videl and Gohan just seem like really good friends.”

“Yeah, until them being good friends goes into more,” You said, empty venom in your voice.

“Why are you guys talking about Gohan and Videl?”

You both jumped, Trunks standing in your doorway, soda can in hand, eyeing you two curiously, “Are they bullying you?”

“No, they’re not bullying me.”

He narrowed his eyes at you, “You’d tell me if they were, right? I’d destroy them both!”

Your mom rolled her eyes, “You sound just like your father.”

Your little brother beamed, his intentions to beat up two of your friends forgotten.

“Besides,” You stood up with a smirk, ruffling your brothers hair as you moved out to the hall, “You’d lose.”

- - -

While your brother fighting your friends was off the table, him fighting your teacher was not. Of course the man had assigned pairs for this upcoming project, worth over half of your grades.

And of course you were paired with Gohan.

Videl had been paired with some girl you vaguely knew, Ryushin. She was sweet, and smart enough. Erasa had been paired up with one of the flirty jocks, so Videl had arranged for the four of them to work on their projects together. It made sense why, Videl was a very protective friend, she wanted to keep an eye on the blonde.

Which meant you and Gohan were by yourselves in your room, quietly working amongst yourselves.

“So I have a question.”

You raised an eyebrow, “I might have an answer.”

He placed his pen down, turning his attention to you, “Is Trunks mad at me?”

A laugh bubbled out of you before you could stop it, “What?”

“When your mom let me in, I’m used to Vegeta’s quips, I grew up with them, but Trunks started mimicking him.” You looked at him, baffled, “I was confused. Vegeta looked overjoyed. I think Bulma’s tearing into him for corrupting your brother honestly.”

“Oh, so that was the yelling,” You muttered, glancing towards the direction of the living area, “Not that I know of?”

Unless he was still thinking Gohan was the reason you’d been so upset lately.

Which wasn’t entirely untruthful.

He didn’t look fully convinced, but seemed ready to drop the topic. A few peaceful moments passed before he looked like he wanted to bring something else up. “So, I have some exciting news.”

“Oh?”

“The other day after class Videl and I were talking.”

You felt your throat suddenly go dry, blinking a few times, trying to regain to momentary lapse in cool you had felt. “About what?”

“Well, she,” He rubbed the back of his neck, “There was this new coffee shop that opened up nearby. We’ve passed it a few times, actually. The one with the pink umbrellas outside?”

“Oh yeah,” You nodded, remembering commenting about how cute it was, wanting to go there at some point after school.

“Right, well, she had the great idea of us going on a double date there!”

Oh.

Oh.

You felt your heart shatter, a stammering feeling in your chest.

They were already dating?

Was that what they were talking about the other day? Maybe they were trying to figure out how to drop the bomb to you and Erasa. Worried the balance in your little group would shift.

Gohan seemed to grow nervous at your silence, and you forced yourself to smile at him, trying to convey as much happiness through the look as you could.

“I think that’d be so fun!”

He seemed relieved, “R- Really?”

You nodded, “I’ve been wanting to go there since I saw it, and it seems like a cute place for a date!”

The smile on his face was blinding, and the shakiness of his hands, the nervousness in his eyes disappeared quickly, “That’s— yeah! Yeah! I think that’s one reason Videl suggested it, you and Erasa and some others in our class have been talking about it, so it seemed perfect!”

You smiled, eyes falling down to your notebook, absentmindedly tapping your pen, “So, when should we go?”

“I know you’re doing a work study with your mom, and Videl’s been helping her dad at his dojo after school. We were thinking Saturday morning? They have some breakfast stuff there too, we’ve been looking over their menu.”

You nodded, mind reeling and heart hammering. It was taking all your will power not to start tearing up, fighting to keep a smile on your face, “Saturday is absolutely perfect.”

He smiled at you, his usual shy persona coming back for a moment, glancing down at his notebook before looking back up at you, “I’m so happy you agreed. I was so worried you wouldn’t.”

You hadn’t wanted to, honestly. Who was going to be your date? Was it one of Videl’s friends? Erasa’s friends? You’d rather not waste a Saturday with some stranger, watching as Videl and Gohan talked and flirted, while you seethed with jealousy and sadness.

But Gohan looked so happy you agreed.

He was probably nervous and needed support.

You could do that, you suppose.

“I’d do anything for you,” And that was the truth.

His cheeks tinged pink, a dopey smile on his face.

A/N: As much as I'm MIA from this blog, it's always in the back of my mind. I came up with this idea at like 1 a.m. last night. Requests are open if at any point anyone wishes to send one in. Lord knows I could use the brain power.
