It was silent, but a good kind of silence. It wasn’t tense, it wasn’t heavy, it was just…normal. That’s how it was with Izzy. If he didn’t have to, he wouldn’t talk. Usually you weren’t once for silence, you always had the TV on, cassette player going, anything. You hated the silence.

Izzy made it comforting. He didn’t make the silence feel lonely or empty. You weren’t sure what it was. How he always had that calm, collected aura of cool around him. He brought the cigarette up to his lips, taking a long drag and blowing out the smoke. You watched intently, not saying anything as your own cigarette burned away between your fingers.

He wasn’t like any other rockstars you knew. He wasn’t that outgoing, he wasn’t that crazy, he wasn’t that loud. Izzy was Izzy. Just as north is north and south is south. He finally caught on to your staring, or maybe he already knew, and he was just choosing to acknowledge it now.

You didn’t know. You never knew with him. He looked you up and down, gaze lingering no where in particular. Without another glance, he turned his gaze back out the window. And there you were, back to complete silence. And it stayed that way for a few long minutes.

“You even gonna smoke that cig?”

You almost jumped, not expecting to hear his lazy drawl. Looking down at your cigarette, most of it burned away, you thought. You didn’t like smoking. The taste always made you feel sick. You don’t even know why you started, maybe because Izzy did. And what a pathetic reason that was. Staring the offending cigarette down, you bit the bullet and took a hit anyways.

You didn’t reply, and neither did he.

You convince your boyfriend, Tom, to try on your lip products

You’d always been a little jealous of Tom and his pouty lips. They were always so perfect plump- but he wouldn’t ever take care of them! And that annoyed you, graced with such a gift, only to be neglected- which started your barrage of pestering,

Every morning you’d give him kissed and say comment how a little chapstick would do him good. Out at dinner you’d bring up how the lighting would give his lips such a nice shine if he put on a little gloss. At the mall you’d hint how that certain shade of lipstick would complement his complexion so well…

Finally after weeks of badgering, Tom agreed. You were ecstatic. The two of you were sat on the bed, you had this whole array of lip products- which was actually apart of your secret “For Tom” stash. Finally your time had come.

After you applied different colors of lipstick, types of lipglosses, and such- you realized Tom rocked literally everything. And he was liking it too/ you noticed how he’d look into the mirror after every lip combo you tried on him. It honestly made you a little jealous, if you were being honest.

A few days after the fact, you’d notice that Tom’s lips always had a bit of shine. Nothing too extreme, it was subtle, but you too pride in it.

I do believe that no one should trust blindly when it comes to rockstar autobiographies/biographies.

Yes, some things could be true, but take everything that is being said with a grain of salt. Especially when it comes to individuals who are trying to recount memories from a time when they were deep into drugs and alcohol.

The example that primarily caused me to make this post was the autobiographies of Slash, Duff, and Steven. There are certain bits and pieces where there are inconsistencies in their stories. They really aren’t the most reliable narrators.

That being said, do not take what is written as fact just because it was stated directly by that person. They will phrase things differently to paint themselves in a better light , or they simply just don’t remember right.

It’s usually a mix of half-truths and half-lies
