The following DS9 doodles are brought to you by: The best grandpa/aunt/cousin, gossip girls and a woman so pretty I can't think of anything funny to say about it :D
My idea of Amanda Grayson is this double nature because she needs to be in a certain way to enjoy life on Vulcan but she also becomes much more fun as a character if you imagine her as being very human in certain aspects of her life and personality. Having that garden full of gnomes, occasionally calling Sarek “babe” and wearing party hats etc.
What I’m saying is: She made finger guns at Spock all the time while he grew up and he always viewed it as a strange and embarrassing yet seemingly necessary part of human culture. Which caused some initial confusion the first time he visited Earth.
I've seen many of these, but here's my attempt at mapping the DS9 polycule! ;)
All of these ships have 25+ fics on AO3 (aside from Kira/Miles, but the Keiko/Kira/Miles tag makes up for that :P) I love this fandom and this silly queer space station so damn much ❤❤
And man, some of the triads/quads/and more that come out of this are 👌👌
the first episode of star trek tng:
hi everyone! meet the crew! wow, this guy's got a temper. this one's an android! uh-oh, a spooky alien has appeared!
the first episode of star trek ds9:
post-traumatic stress disorder
y’all so i knew about garak and bashir like peripherally right? BUT NOBODY PREPARED ME FOR HOW OUTRAGEOUSLY QUEERCODED THEY BOTH ARE????
like?? garak literally just checked sisko out?? i know he’s supposed to be vaguely threatening in this scene! but! i completely understand why the actors literally performed fanfiction 20 years later. i would be sick of producers’ bs too if THIS WAS MY FUCKING CHARACTER.
also i saw a post that said siddig just “played along” like NO WHAT there were several scenes where bashir VERY OBVIOUSLY checked out men too. this feels like a very deliberate writing AND acting choice.
and, despite what y’all may believe about me (see: fandom participant), it actually takes quite a lot for me to truly believe that characters are queercoded, especially in more recent history. sure, i like a good romance-y fanfic as much as the next person (sometimes i just think characters would make an interesting couple without respect to canon, sue me!), but in terms of ACTUAL characters that i think were written with intentional subtext? there’s very few.
all of this is to say: holy shit. i knew they had some subtext, but i wasn’t prepared for it to be like THAT.
edit: this is S2E18 by the way!
Lower Decks really missed a golden opportunity to travel back in time to not The Trouble With Tribbles, but to Trials and Tribble-ations, where live action Boimler and Mariner would've had to avoid not only Kirk's crew, but the copy-pasted crew from Deep Space 9.
Just keep seeing how many layers you can pile on top of the original episode.
