Even Weird Al has had that™ experience with Tony Hawk
I just started playing a warlock, and I was wondering how you deal with rationing spells? I feel like Im not as helpful in combat bc the other spell casters can just burn a lot more spells than me, even if Im a bit more helpful outside of combat
Warlocks in the beginning aren’t the greatest, but once you start leveling up you will become a powerful motherfucker. Most of the spells my character has don’t even do damage. He’s a utility boy because he has an Archfey Patron, but it can change how combat is playing out. Fiend Warlocks are the really hard hitters in combat.
I have just gotten used to only using my spells when necessary. Right now Eridonis has 3 spell slots. In our big boss battle I used all of them for Counterspell which is always casted at 5th level.
Besides, being helpful outside of combat is just as important as inside combat. More examples from this last session. Eridonis used Seeming to make his entire party look like the different monster races in the capital so they could blend in and walk unnoticed. When we got to the main gate I had to roll a Deception check with the lie I said to get in. With the Actor Feat I roll with advantage on Deception and Performance checks when pretending to be somebody else. Rolled a 19 + 11 = 30.
No way in hell could we get in through the gates to even get to the major fight without getting into trouble if it wasn’t for him.
It will take time to learn when it feels right or wrong to use your spell slots. Sometimes you gotta take risks as well. I promise once you level up more and more you will see just how important in and out of combat you are.
This is how I envision the Ranger from Guild Wars 2! I know of the ranger class in the player’s handbook and the revised ranger as well as the spellless ranger. I never felt they were the ranger I had in mind so I reinvented the class, kinda?
I feel kind of insecure about posting this, because I am not 100% satisfied with it, but it will have to do because I feel like I can not improve upon this myself.

‘Maalstroom’ is the name given to those storm giants who embrace undeath in exchange for immortality and fathomless arcane power. Unlike humanoid liches, maalstrooms need not feed the souls of others into a phylactery - all they require is an enchanted lodestone known as the Heart of the Storm, to which a storm giant quinetssent must be bound. The process is long and complex but mostly harmless; if anything being bound to a Heart of the Storm actually solidifies a quintessent’s presence in the world.
Giants are naturally predisposed towards reclusive lives in lonely fortresses, so very little adaptation is necessary when then ascend to lichhood. Although some maalstrooms use their power to subjugate humanoid empires, ruling as immortal god-emperors, thankfully most maintain their isolation or make war on the great enemy of giant-kind, the dragons.
