Accidental Boyfriend (Tomura Shigaraki xF!Reader)

Words: 6k // part 2 (part 1)

Tw: awkward stage, brief first kiss, backstory crumbs, shity dads, self harm, neurodivergent Tomura (and reader sure as hell not neurotypical either)

Teaser: “W–what?? I totally!! Had–” he can't lie to save his life. He looks away and blushes. You giggle. “Spinner told me to not tell you I didn't even have my first kiss. He said that… that's lame and embarrassing.”

Accidental Boyfriend (Tomura Shigaraki XF!Reader)

Tomura hates getting up early.

His inner clock just doesn't work that way… or maybe it is the fact he never goes to bed early. He is a night owl and only starts to work properly at noon. He takes his classes accordingly and life is easier for him like that. He makes it work. But his father never understood it.

“It is already 8. You are still sleeping?”

“Yeah,” Tomura rasps. His stomach fills with dread and he grabs his squishy fidget toy. He rolls it between his fingers and digs his nails into them. He remembers what you said. “Why are you calling?” Tomura feels so itchy. He hates this. He hates this so much. He wants to break something– needs to. His skin is the most obvious and accessible choice. Always.

“It's a holiday weekend… are you coming home?”

The guilt pierces through his heart instantly. He does not want to but maybe he should go– maybe he has to. It is what families do. “I don't know… I have a lot of class work to do. I'll let you know later today, is that alright?”

“Alright. Your sister and mother are asking… just so you know.”

Tomura feels his heart crack and the guilt only sinks deeper. “Goodbye.”

The line goes dead and he falls into his pillows again. This already drained him for the rest of the day and now he thinks of mom and Hana too.

He is good at forgetting about them… not that he doesn't love them… he does so very much, but with the distance now that he's at uni everyone can pretend that he is gone for good and out of their lives. Even Tomura himself. Only his father keeps in touch regularly as Mom and Hana still keep contact with him to a minimum as his Therapists suggested years ago… though, he knows it is because they hate him. He'd only see them on holidays so maybe that is why they expect him to come now… why they asked about him. He doesn't get it… now that Tomura has grown up and moved out… they don't have to pretend anymore.

He sees he has a message from a chat that isn't Spinner. How odd. Dabi only texts in game and Himiko calls… Who? And he remembers. Holy shit he has a girlfriend.

Tomura's feelings change almost instantly. 15 messages in– your– chat. Oh god? What happened? A slither of panic sparks up but then his chest flutters. You read the first volume of the manga he got for you and documented your reaction in great detail. You even send him pictures of your facial expressions. Tomura smiles. You look so utterly adorable. He hugs his favorite pillow tightly trying to make sense of all the emotions that threaten to burst out of him. This is so odd. So new… and Tomura is usually apprehensive to change.

He spends all day texting you. Every free second… well, also during class even though he shouldn't. You always reply super quick while he takes about 3 minutes to answer each time. Tomura rereads each message multiple times to make sure he is getting all intended meanings and doesn't make things weird. He even tries to throw in some emoji… mainly just the ones you use too. But not too much or he will just end up copying you entirely.

“You've been staring at your phone all day,” Spinner frowns. “Texting ya girlfriend, huh? Can't believe you get one before Dabi, no offence. It's just… how. When did you go on dates?”

“None taken,” Tomura nods. He agrees. He just had luck? “I mean… it's weird how we met, I guess.” He looks at the read messages he sent again. You didn't reply right away and you always do. Did he say something wrong?

“How did you meet then?” Spinner frowns.

“That party you told me to go to.”

“Oh… but look! Now you got a gf!” Spinner does feel bad though. He had this whole breakdown about them wasting their college years and then got too anxious to go to the party, standing Tomura up. “I am sorry about that still.”

“It's okay,” Tomura says… but really? He was mad for a second. If you make plans you have to stick to them. You still haven't answered. “I want to show (Y/N) Forest Worlds 4. I think she'd like it.”

“It's a fairly easy game for beginners and she could join our guild,” Spinner nods. “Does she have the set up for it? Will you ask Dabi?”

Tomura shrugs. “She studies animation. Most laptops and computers that can handle that should be able to handle casual gaming. Dabi doesn't have to know yet.”

“Animation? Cool.” Spinner nods then chuckles. “Are you scared Dabi rizzes her up?”

Tomura blinks. What does Spinner mean? “I just want to game with her alone. I want to– I just… I want to spend time with her alone… just us… as much as possible. Then she can join the guild if she wants to. I really just wanna spend time with her. Why would I care about Dabi?”

“I see… you are down bad.”

Before he can think about it any further you suddenly take the chair next to him and collapse on the table, exhausted. His eyes widen and he can't help the smile that grows on his lips. What is this? Wow. Is he sick or something? Just because he sees you? He hardly ever smiles.

You look a bit different? More… Polished. You are wearing more jewellery and your hair is tied up nice and your lips are a glossy pink color. He has not seen you like this before.

“Hi,” you smile, straightening up. “Do you mind if I sit with you?” You look from him to Spinner. They seem so surprised. “I saw you when I walked out of class…” You point back to the building, giving a bit more context.

“No,” they say in unison, still just looking at you.

“What is it?” You smile softer and shake your head.

“You look… different?” Tomura says flat. He can't look away. Your eyes sparkle too. It's mesmerising.

“Oh? Well, I had some extra time and did my make up?” You grin widely and put your hand under your chin, presenting your face.

“Ah. I see.”

Tomura feels Spinner's feet kick at his gently. What?! He blinks and clears his throat then looks at his laptop again.

Spinner bites his tongues but immediately texts his friend.

[Spinner]: tell her she looks cute you fool!

Tomura sees the message pop up on his laptop screen and his eyes widen. Of Course that's what he meant?! Did that not come across?! “You look beautiful!” He bursts out like someone held a gun to his head to say it.

You snort. “Thank you? How was your day? How is business?”

“Tough,” Spinner sighs. “Statistics.” He mentions to the screen. You lean into Tomura to take a look. He holds his breath.

“Oh god,” you squint.

“How is animation?” Spinner asks.

“I had a 3d modelling class just now. Not my favorite thing,” you pull out your laptop and they both are staring at the multiple sticker on the back for a second. “But I made a little plant guy.” You turn it and show them.

“Oh, a little plant guy!” Spinner muses. “Cute. Is it hard?”

“Yeah… cute,” Tomura whispers. How is it so hard for him to talk? Why are you and Spinner kind of hitting it off? He doesn’t like it… you are his girl after all.

“It's new for me,” you shrug. “I need to figure it out.”

“Ah, I see. Interesting. Much more interesting than statistics.”

“Like that's hard.”

You two chuckle.

Tomura laughs obnoxiously. “Yes… funny.” He doesn't like this… how can he be more like Spinner? How can he be normal? Maybe you already like Spinner more–

You look at him weird but then reach out to hook your arm around his and rest your head against his shoulder.

Spinner let's out a little chuckle.

You raise your head again and look at him, Tomura does too.

“This is just so weird,” he says. “Shiggy hates being touched usually.”

“Oh?” You turn to look at him. “I? I didn't know. I'm sorry–” You scoot away a bit.

“No… it's fine,” Tomura gulps. “If it's you… It's fine,” Tomura whispers, staring. He doesn't know why. He could not explain it. You make him feel more at ease than anything else.

He watches how your eyes pinch and your lips turn into a soft smile. Your cheeks become pinker too. You pout and lean your head against his shoulder again. “Rizz.” You smile softly, your heart bursts.

“Have y-you eaten dinner already?” He asks, really just trying to deflect the conversation. There are so many things he has to make sense of. But yes…. If it's you… it just is different. He hasn't given it much thought. Physical touch does overwhelm him most times… But when it's you… It's almost soothing. That's all there is.

You think for a second and your face glosses over with ice cold realization. “I… didn't eat anything at all yet.”

“It's almost 6pm!” Tomura nearly shrieks like a worried grandmother already halfway in the kitchen preparing a feast. He starts to pack up. “Let's go to the new place on main Street?”

“Uhh!” Spinner sparkles with interest. “I wanted to try that one!”

Your teeth clench. “I don't think I can afford that right now.” You wave apologetically.

“Huh? I'll pay for you, of course. Boyfriends should always do that,” he says. He read that multiple times.

“Uff. That's not very feminist of you,” Spinner jokes.

Tomura stops dead and looks at his friend. “What?” His face goes even paler and his mouth forms a tight line. His eyes snap to you to search for anger. What did he do now? Feminism? What? How did the conversation get here?!

“He was joking,” you chuckle. “You don't always have to pay though, you do know that? I just really am broke right now.”

“Why?” Tomura looks at you and now Spinner grimaces. “What?”

“You don't ask people about their finances like that, pal– even though we study business,” Spinner explains.

“Isn't it your job to ask then though?” You wonder.

“Oh.” Tomura panics again and looks at you. “I am sorry–”

You sigh and chuckle. “It's fine. My dad suddenly decided to stop paying my rent even though he told me he would. I just have to get another job,” you shrug. “Drawing furry porn can only support you so much.”

Spinner laughs. “What?! For real? You do that?!”

Tomura smiles. No. Actually… He likes that you and Spinner get along.

“Why did your dad say he would and now changed his mind?” Tomura frowns and the three of you start to walk to the subway station.

“It's sabotage," you say it totally casually but now Spinner and Tomura frown at you with concern. “He doesn't want me to study Animation or be here in the big city at all. It's a thing but… like… I am trying not to overshare.” You smile at them.

But Tomura really wished you would. He wants to know. Like what do you mean sabotage? Spinner elbows him. What now? What is he supposed to say now?! He doesn't know. He is confused. “Uh. I am sorry?”

“Don't be. Can I hold your hand?” You ask. He nods and bites the insides of his cheek as you intertwine your fingers with his. His heart beats faster. You have no idea what these hands did… his stupid… disgusting hands. You hold his hand just like that.

You hop on the subway. And Tomura just stares at your connected hands. He doesn't get it… how you don't feel disgusted. He does not know if he likes it. It is strange. He feels tight… Restricted. The sensation is too… No… He just has to hold your hand… It is fine. It's what boyfriends and girlfriends do.

You suddenly take your hand away and only link your pinky to his. You flash him a small smile. Did… did you notice his unease?

“Uh… excuse me,” a group of girls suddenly approaches. “A-are you Shiggy and Spinner?”

“Yes?” Tomura looks up at the group. They squeal.

“Can we take a picture, please?”

“Sure thing, ladies,” Spinner smiles. “Will you take it, (Y/N)?”

“Of course!” You jump up.

You take the picture and it is so odd to watch the girls fawn over Tomura. Not because you don't believe it… but because he doesn't even realize it. He doesn't even understand how charming he can be. Maybe it's a bit of possessiveness too. He's your boyfriend after all… just not really.

“So… for real now, how famous are you? You have avoided the question every time!” You ask again. If he gets recognized like this then it might be much bigger than you thought.

“I am about to hit 1,5 million on YouTube,” he mumbles.

Your eyes widen. “Oh, wow. That's so cool!”

He shrugs. “It's whatever.”

“Pff… don't undermine your success,” Spinner says. “Besides because of your thunder I can pay bills too.”

“I just play and talk about games,” Tomura shrugs. “Nothing to be proud of–”

“Even better!” You beam. “You get to do something you love and have success with it. You can be so proud of yourself! Will you show me your channel sometime?”

“Y-yes,” Tomura nods and looks at you like a deer at headlights. His stomach twists. You are so excited on his behalf? You know nothing about what he does… what if you don't like his content? Yet you just are happy for him? Just because. It is… cute. “I have merch too.”

“No way! What's on it?”

You make it to the new food place and it is packed. The crowd is mostly other college students and some business workers have wandered into the place as well.

“What do you guys want?” You ask. “I'll order.”

Tomura and Spinner's eyes sparkle with sweet relief. “Really?”

“Going of a hunch that you guys don't really like to order,” you chuckle softly.

“What makes you think that?!” Spinner makes his voice sound shrill on purpose.

They give you their order and you walk up to the register. Tomura watches you. How you smile and interact with the worker so easily and kindly.

“Is that all?”

You look at Spinner and Tomura and they nod. “It's all. Thank you so much.”

“My pleasure. You can put down your card here and your food will be ready in about 10 minutes. That is the number that will flash on the screen over there.”

Tomura holds his card against the device and you migrate over to the waiting area.

“How do you do it?” Spinner says shocked. “Like… that was so easy?”

“Yeah,” Tomura sighs. “There was even unexpected dialog.” He meets your eyes for a moment. “You're weird.”

“Naturally,” you smile. “So… you show me that game you were talking about tonight?”

Tomura's face lights up. “Yes! Sure! If you want to.”

“I'll put in a good word with Dabi so he accepts you into the guild,” Spinner nods. “Cuz I think he will say no just because you're a noob. The three of us are guild masters.”

Dabi? You have heard that name before. “I see. So it's fantasy?”

They nod and proceed to go on a rant about the plot and mechanisms of the game and how amazing it is. You only understand half of it but you like listening to them nonetheless.

The food is amazing and you really have fun. Again. They are so genuine and you like that a lot. There's no ulterior motive as to why they are spending time with you. Your heart aches a little remembering the utter mess this situation is. You feel guilty.

You really enjoy spending time with Tomura. And Spinner as well. Texting Tomura all day felt so natural… is that enough for now? Is it enough that you think his smile stops the world and you want to know everything about him?

You and Spinner wait outside as Tomura uses the restroom. You look at Spinner. Is it enough? He knows Tomura best… maybe… “I didn't mean to date him, you know.”

“W-what?” Spinner's eyes go huge as he turns to look at you.

“My stalker didn't leave me alone and I asked him to pose as my boyfriend–”

Spinner's eyes close in realization. “Oh, but he doesn't get stuff like that!”

“How was I supposed to know? I thought he was joking.”

“But then why…?” He points to the restaurant. “A-are you just… l-leading him on now?! Why didn't you tell him you're not actually his girlfriend?!”

“No! I didn't know how to let him down and then I thought why not see where this goes because I do enjoy spending time with him a lot,” you look at Spinner with pleading eyes. “I really want to get to know him. I want to spend time with him as much as possible and– yes, it's weird but maybe it can be–”

“It can be real… maybe?” Spinner frowns. “It is real to him? You act like it's real! What if you get to know him more and don't like him? What then? This isn't fair.“

You blink. Not liking him? That option didn't even cross your mind. Why wouldn't you like him? Now you are confused. If the option of not liking him doesn't even exist to you then doesn't that mean that–

Spinner's eyes soften suddenly and he sighs. “This is fucked up.” He knows though that Tomura would never go on dates. There are no clear rules to dating… so Tomura can't follow them. This miscommunication may have been the only way for him to get a girl.

“Very,” you agree. “But… I am kinda happy it happened? He's really kind, smart… and cute… and I thought he wasn't my type but he's really hot too.”

“Hot?!” Spinner grimaces. “Where?”

You both laugh.

“What are you laughing about?” Tomura says as he fixes his cross shoulder bag around his torso.

“(Y/N) said you're hot.”

“What?!” You shriek and blush. “Traitor!” Your eyes meet Tomura's and you hide half your face in your hands. Your heart beats so fast. Of course you are forward but this is just embarrassing. You would have told him but not like this!

“You think I'm hot?” Tomura can't help the grin that fights itself onto his lips.

“Shut up!” You whine and turn away, walking on. Tomura reaches out and links his pinky to yours again. Your heart stops. You don't make eye contact with him again even though he searches for it. How is this happening? All of it coming from a misunderstanding?

Spinner laughs. “I didn't think you'd get embarrassed.”

“Shut it!”

You make it back to Tomura's place soon after and you smile when he opens the door to his dorm for you.

“Are you smiling because I kept it clean?”

“I'm proud of you,” you nod and pat at his shoulder. “Will you borrow me some sweatpants?”

“Uh, sure,” Tomura scavenges through his dresser and gives you a pair of black sweats. “Here.”

“Thanks.” You hesitate for a second. What now? Are you going to change in the bathroom? He is your boyfriend… but not really. You unzip your skirt and Tomura turns away politely in an instant. Of course he would. You change and sit down on the bed.

“So… what now?”

“Give me your laptop.”

You nod and hand it to him. He gets the spare chair and lets you sit in his fancy gaming chair. “It's so comfy… What– I could animate in this for dayssss. I only have the standard chair that came with the dorm and it hurts after a few hours,” you say.

“I can get you one,” he says absent-minded.

“Tomura,” you sigh. “You're not my sugar daddy.”

“Funny,” he looks at you then opens your laptop and turns it on. His lips twitch. “D-do you know that you can clean the keyboard?”

“What do you mean?” You frown and scoot closer. You wipe it down from time to time… how else would you clean it?

“Here,” he easily clips off a keycap, revealing all sort of dirt in the space between key and laptop. “You can remove them and then clean out the crumbs and dust. Your space bar is all stuck.” He removes it then opens a drawer and gets out a little brush. He cleans the area and suddenly the space bar works again.

“HUH?! It is snappy again! I had no idea you could do that!” You say in awe. “How the turn tables.”

“That's not how the saying goes,” Tomura frowns.

You chuckle, “I know. It is--nevermind. And I won't break anything?”

“You have to do it gently but it's easy– I… I can also do it for you!” He tries to smile. “If you'd prefer that.”

“I'll try myself but thank you,” you smile. “I get so much dirt on it I should learn how to do it.”

“Reasonable,” he nods. Your desktop opens and Tomura's eyes narrow then he turns to look at you. “Really?” Your file organization is a mess. It hurts to look at. No… it's not a mess… it's nonexistent.

“What?” You blink at him.

“What is this?” He points to your screen. “Folders exist for reasons. This is making me itchy. Like… all of this is one project, right? Why don't you put it in a folder?”

“Look if I am up til 4 am working on something… I just close the laptop and be done with it… the heck are folders.”

“No.” Tomura shakes his head. “Tch.” He starts making folders. “My girl will not have a disorganized desktop.”

My girl. Your heart flutters. Oh wow. You grab a hold of the sweatpants’ fabric– his sweatpants. My girl.

You watch Tomura use shortcuts you've never heard of and make folders and organize your files. He keeps tugging his hair behind his ears, mumbling out the file names to check in with you where they belong.

“Final-final-v11– eleven?!” He laughs a little. “Oh… what's this?” His voice is faint suddenly. The cursor hovers over a csp file titled shiggy.

“Open it.”

He looks at you, hesitating. The file opens up and Tomura bites his tongue. It's a collection of sketches… Of him.

“I drew them from memory. I really get inspired by your hair,” you reach out and tug a strand of his hair back. “So I wanted to draw you with Choso and Kashimo's buns and then I got a bit carried away.”

“(Y/N)--” your name shoots out of his mouth like a bullet that leaves the room just quiet.

“Yes?”

“Are you… Real?” He blinks. “Because… no one who hasn't met me through games– likes me. You're really not… joking?”

You stop breathing. No. No, of course you are not joking but now is the moment you have to tell him that people do not get in relationships the way you did and that your relationship is not really real… yet.

His eyes are like those of a frightened bunny and his hand is desperate to reach his neck but he tries to stop himself.

You reach out and pinch him.

“Ouch.”

“Did that feel real?”

“Yeah.”

“So I am real.”

“I guess.”

“Are you someone else when you game? Like a persona?” You ask.

He has to think for a second. “I don't know. It's easier… The rules are clear.” He shrugs. “I also know how the community is… it's just different.”

“I see,” you nod. He feels save to express himself in that space. If he is about to reach 1,5 million followers he surely also gets the praise and appreciation he receives nowhere else.

“Can I ask something?” He whispers like he's scared.

“Sure.” You find his ruby eyes. “Anything.”

“Remind me… This is real… from time to time?”

“I will,” you smile. “I will remind you.”

He lets go of a breath. “Thank you.” He meets your soft gaze and you swear you see him blush. Your lips tingle. You really want to see if kissing him…

“Okay, so, I will download Forest Worlds 4. You can make a character and then I'll show you the game,” Tomura smiles gingerly. “Do you mind I leave a camera running? Not to post it! If you don't want it… Just… It could be fun.”

You nod. “Sure. Let's.”

Tomura sets up the camera and explains how the screen recording software works. “I will save it right to my hard drive so it takes up no space,” he says and plugs the little thing in.

You nod. He opens the game and walks you through making an account, then you finally reach the character creator.

“First you need to choose the type of character,” he says.

“Ohh! I can be a Fairy!” You keep clicking and the next type is an orc. “Oh. Please tell me I can get an orc boyfriend.” You peer at him.

Tomura laughs. “You draw furry porn and are a monster fucker? Pick your struggles.”

“Sure thing, gamer, emo boy!” You tease back. “What do you play as?”

“Paladin.”

You nod and read all the descriptions. “Look. I would like to use a sword but I would also like magic. Though Dragon Hybrid race is cool too. I think my best friend is playing this too and his character is that Dragon type.”

His. Your best friend is a boy and he is a gamer. Tomura feels weird. Is that jealousy? Of a guy he doesn't know?

“I'll choose Elf… they can fight with weapons and have magic. I really tried to not be basic and take the elf… I lose.”

“I knew you'd pick Elf,” he grins.

“Pff.”

You design your character then you finally start the game. It's a tutorial first.

“Oh, pretty,” you coo at the scenery. Tomura tells you to change some settings first.

“Well, now that that is done. You can walk around and follow the tutorial.” He nods.

He watches how you play with a smile plastered on his face. You aren't even doing a half bad job.

“Press F5,” he helps out when you're stuck.

“Oh! Thanks!”

You seem like you're having fun and are interested. He is happy to share this with you.

He logs in himself once he is sure you have the basics down and finds you in game. You shriek.

“Oh no! There's a person! Will they kill me?!”

Tomura laughs, “that's me.” He makes his character wave.

“Oh! Wait– how can I wave too?”

“Alt and up arrow.”

Your character waves. “Hehe.” Tomura walks over to you and you get a message.

[Shiggy wants to make you a gift. Accept?]

You click yes.

Your inventory is suddenly filled with flowers.

“Oh!” you coo and pout. “Thank you.” You make your character bow. “Kind sir, are thou, flirteth with me?”

Tomura laughs wholeheartedly. “Elfves can make potions out of them.”

“Ah!”

“You have to up your xp first though.”

“Like in the sims with cooking.”

“Yeah, kinda,” he smiles. “I'll show you the city. Follow me.” His character makes a grand follow me gesture.

You are clumsy when it comes to jumping and running so it takes a while to reach the city square. Tomura can't stop giggling.

Until suddenly the giggling stops abruptly. In the corner of his screen a pop up window. Incoming video call: Dad.

You see the apathy spread in every cell of his body but then suddenly panic when he realized you are there right next to him.

“You don't want to talk to him?” You ask and your hand touches his thigh, giving it a soft squeeze of support. “I can wait outside if–”

“N-no.” He takes your hand and squeezes it then accepts the call.

“Tried to quickly clean your room?” His dad chuckles condesendingly. “You have never managed to keep a tidy space.”

Your stomach tightens… what way is that to start a call?! Holy shit. Your thumb softly drags over Tomura's knuckles.

“What's up? Why are you calling?” Tomura rasps.

“Did we not say this morning you make up your mind whether you come home or not? Did you already forget? Typical. I was waiting all evening for your decision.”

“Right. Sorry. I got dinner with friends.”

His father pauses. “You don't have friends. Make up better lies for your tardiness.”

Your heart drops. This can't be real. This cannot be real.

“Apologies, sir.” Tomura wants to let go of your hand but you don't let him. You know he will hurt himself again… you know it's compensation or regulation or something but his neck hasn't healed from the last time.

His other hand starts to scratch and his father clicks his tongue immediately. “Really, Tenko?”

“No!” Tomura raises his voice. “I was… Really just itchy.” You grab his other hand when it drops into his lap and he squeezes so tightly it hurts.

“Do I have to call your therapist? Have you been seeing her at all? I trusted you to be responsible–”

“I am! I see her once a week. Just–”

“I see the bandaids, son. I really thought university would give you perspective but you are still–”

“I am not! I got into a small tussle… It was different. Dad… I am managing–”

“A fight?! Have you gone fully crazy now?!”

“Not a fight!”

“You come home this weekend. That's that,” his father says. “Apparently you have gotten so bad again you can't be left alone–”

You grab the laptop and turn it toward you. “You are being extremely rude, Mr. Shigaraki!” You hiss. “Are you being serious!? You didn't even care to listen or let Tomura talk! You put words in his mouth and from the very start the only thing you did was talk down on him. And then you wonder why he wants to scratch himself bloody?! Be for real?! He is taking good care of himself! And his friends too! He buys us dinner when we didn't eat, he is kind and he tries his best and and–” you grab the laptop and get up. “Just for your information, his room is clean and tidy!” You put it back down. “And no, he doesn't get into fights but he protects me from creepy guys because he is good. And before you called, and acted like a high-school bully, Tomura and I were giggling and having so much fun. You should be ashamed. Truly. He will absolutely not be coming home this weekend since, you, don't know how to act!” You end the call.

You cover your mouth and don't turn to Tomura. You are shaking with rage. For him not really being your boyfriend you are too angry. But you'd be angry about any friend being treated like this. And Tomura definitely is a friend. You want to cry. That was so unfair.

“(Y/N)?” He makes the gaming chair turn toward him. Stupid spinning chairs.

“I am so sorry!” You say and meet his eyes. You find nothing but softness.

“No one ever stood up for me like that,” he smiles. “Especially to my father.” His eyes are tender and glossy. “It means so much to me.”

“Oh, Tomura,” you climb into his lap, remembering too late what Spinner said about physical touch. “Oh–”

“It's fine!”

You settle, playing with his hair at the nape of his neck. “Is he always like that?”

“Pretty much.”

“You don't deserve that.”

You look up when Tomura breathes shakily. Your face twists, meeting his eyes.

“What?” He asks.

“You are crying?” You cup his face and wipe his tears.

“What? I am?” He sniffs. “Why?” His lips quiver. “I don't– I never cry.”

You hug him again, stroking his head. “It's okay. Shh.”

He breathes rapidly. “I never– I can't cry.” He mumbles, blinking. It is undeniable.

“You can put your hands on my ass if you want… I heard that's comforting.”

He lets out a scoff followed by silence but then a faint. “Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

His hands are timid but eventually rest on the globes of your ass. He doesn't squeeze or explore, not trying to find out if he can overstay his welcome. “It is comforting,” he says.

Silence again.

“This is Embarrassing right?” He asks.

“What is?” You frown.

“What just happened?”

It takes you a moment to answer. You don't know anything about the situation at home and you definitely shouldn't have found out like this but… “No. You have nothing to be embarrassed about. Your dad should be ashamed.”

His hands move up to your lower Back and he squeezes you tightly for the first time. “I never cry, you know?”

“Boys cry, too–”

“No… I mean… I couldn't cry. Even if I wanted to.”

“Oh.”

“Maybe I feel safe enough with you?” He crooks his head back to look at you.

“Yeah… maybe,” you whisper, your stomach flutters. He looks at you with a different kind of adoration now. Before it was awestruck disbelief but now it is trust. You swallow. You lean in and place ghosting kisses where his tears stain his face.

You hear him gasp.

“Too much?”

“No!” He feels you smile against his cheek, followed by another kiss.

You were going to ask about his scars eventually but the chance that his father– your finger twist the fabric of his shirt briefly. You kiss the corner of his lips where one of the scars is then pull away enough to look at him.

“Wanna have your first kiss?” You crook an eyebrow.

“W–what?? I totally!! Had–” he can't lie to save his life. He looks away and blushes. You giggle. “Spinner told me to not tell you I didn't even have my first kiss. He said that… that's lame and embarrassing.”

“Hey… maybe don't listen to Spinner for girl advice.” You smile. “Or is he a secret womanizer?”

Tomura chuckles, “no.”

You tug his hair back. “Just means I get to teach you how to kiss exactly how I like it,” you grin, your breath fans over his lips. “Not lame at all.”

Tomura's pulse picks up. “Oh… I see. D-do you want me to… to brush my teeth?”

You shake your head. You lean in, closing the final inch and placing a single peck on his thin lips. You pull back a little, meeting his eyes.

“Close your eyes.”

“R-right.”

You hold his face tenderly with your fingers and lean in once again, prolonging the kiss significantly. His hands fly up to rest on your thighs. You can feel his heart pound. It takes him a moment to kiss back and it is clumsy and timid but cute. You press your lips to his harder and he hums– whines. You guide him through it until you suckle a bit on his bottom lip before breaking apart again.

A big smile spreads on his softly swollen lips almost instantly and he sinks into the chair. “Oh.”

You giggle.

The League of Villains playing with an Ouija board.

Tomura: “If there are any spirits here, give us a sign.”

Dabi, refusing to participate: “This is so dumb.”

Spinner: “Says the guy who’s too afraid to participate.”

Dabi: “I’m not afraid, I’m just not wasting my time. You all look stupid.”

Tomura, glaring: “Okay, then. If there are any spirits here, touch Dabi.”

Dabi: “Uh, no. Don’t touch Dabi.”

Mr. Compress: “Why not? I thought you didn’t believe in the paranormal?”

Dabi: “I just don’t want to be involved in your dumb game.”

Spinner: “Because you’re scared.“

Dabi: “No.”

Twice: “Guys! It’s spelling something!”

Toga: “T-O-U-Y-A. Touya? Who’s that?”

Dabi, wide eyed in the background.

Mr. Compress: “Let’s ask! Could you please tell us who Touya is?”

Dabi: “Okay, that’s enough—“

Tomura: “Will you relax? There’s nothing to freak out over—“

Twice: “It’s spelling something else!”

Toga: “T-E-N-K-O—”

Tomura, quickly decaying the Ouija board.

The league all staring at him.

Tomura: “… oh no— my hand slipped. Guess we can’t play anymore.”

blind date (shigaraki x reader)

After endless failed attempts to help Tomura up his game, his friends have settled on their last resort: A blind date. Even before you show up, it's not going well. No quirks AU, 2k words.

this was originally in the x reader lovers community, but I figured I'd release it into the wild as well!

Tomura gets being a little late. “A little late” is practically his middle name. He waits until the last minute to do almost everything, and that means any complications mean he’s running behind. Hypocrisy pisses him off so much that he tries to avoid it all costs, so that means he has to put up with it without bitching when somebody else is a little late, too.

Except half an hour isn’t a just a little late for anything, let alone a blind date Tomura didn’t want to go on in the first place. He’s been waiting outside the bar you were supposed to meet at for half an hour, and he’s pissed.

“That’s it,” he says after the eighteenth time a woman his age has walked past and hasn’t been you, whatever the hell you look like. “I’m out of here.”

“Just a little longer, honey,” Magne says. She’s smiling, but she’s also got her arm around Tomura’s shoulders, and if she squeezes any harder, Tomura’s going to pop like a balloon. “She’ll be here.”

“No, she won’t.” Tomura crosses his arms over his chest, tucking his hands in so nothing will bite them. They’re on the waterfront, in the summer, and there are insects everywhere. Whose dumb idea was this? “You showed her a photo of me and she changed her mind.”

“It’s a blind date,” Magne says. Like Tomura’s supposed to know what that means. “She doesn’t know what you look like, either. That’s why you have to stay right here and keep wearing that baseball hat. Otherwise she won’t know it’s you.”

Tomura hates the hat. Right now he hates everything. “So she got here on time, saw me, and left. Can I go?”

Magne shakes her head. “You promised you’d try.”

“I showed up. I waited for fucking half an hour. I’ve tried.” Tomura finally shoves Magne’s arm off his shoulders. “I’m done.”

Tomura wishes he could say he didn’t know how he got here, except he does. One of his friends is getting married, and there’s supposed to be a wild bachelor weekend in Vegas, one last blast of stupid before settling down. Most of the groomsmen are planning to hook up with as many people as possible, and that’s where the problems start. According to his friends, Tomura has no game. Zero game. Negative one hundred game. If he was rolling for his game stat, it would be a critical failure – and none of his friends want to babysit him when they could be getting laid.

Tomura wouldn’t want to babysit when he could be getting laid, either. His solution was to skip the bachelor weekend and just show up for the wedding in his stupid rented suit. But apparently his friends really want him to come to the party, and they decided that what he needed was to get some practice in before the trip. Which means that for the last month, Tomura’s spent every Friday night and weekend getting dragged through his own personal hell.

They made him try dating apps, which were a disaster, even though Tomura let Toga set up his profile and make the first move. Then they tried traditional online dating, which also sucked, because Tomura’s too picky and other people have standards. Hanging out in bars and clubs worked exactly how it’s always worked – it doesn’t – and when Dabi pulled out the big guns and dragged Tomura to the sex club where he met his fiancé, the only people who talked to Tomura were guys. Tomura thought that was sort of a good sign, even though he’s not into men, until he remembered that guys will fuck anything with a hole in it. He’s not high on himself on his best day, but that was a really shitty night.

He thought they were going to quit after that, but his friends had one last ace up their sleeve – a blind date, Magne’s idea, which Toga enthusiastically signed off on when she saw a picture of the woman Magne wanted to set Tomura up with. Toga’s type and Tomura’s type line up, sort of, and Spinner giving the photo two thumbs way up sealed the deal.

It’s not like Tomura was hopeful or anything. He just wanted to get his friends off his back. Still, rejection sucks, and ghosting sucks worse. He’d rather have you show up and tell him to his face that you weren’t interested than stand him up.

Magne collars Tomura again, but her phone starts ringing at the same time, Toga’s contact info popping up. “Don’t go anywhere,” she warns Tomura as she raises the phone to her ear. “We’re here. She’s not here yet. Can you tell him –”

Tomura ducks out from under her arm and books it into the crowd of people on the waterfront, figuring he can make it to the metro stop before Magne figures out which way he’s going. But even that can’t go his way today, because he runs into somebody who’s moving at warp speed in the opposite direction, colliding at the shoulder hard enough to make him stagger. Tomura’s not confrontational, but it’s the wrong fucking day. “Can you watch where you’re going? It’s not like you matter to whoever you’re going to –”

“Are you Tomura?”

Tomura’s heart lurches. He stares hard at you as you right yourself, picking up the backpack you dropped in the collision. There’s no way this is happening. There’s no universe in which his blind date would be someone like you.

He can see right away why Toga and Spinner approved of you, but he thought you’d be someone in his league, not somebody who’s several kilometers above it. Maybe Tomura’s too excited that you actually showed up to evaluate what you actually look like. He looks away, then looks back. Nope – you’re still pretty, even though your face is flushed and you’re breathing hard like you’ve just been running. Did you run here to meet him? Only one way to find out. “I’m Tomura.”

“I’m so sorry,” you say. “My boss held me back at work, and I missed my train –”

You’re wearing some kind of work uniform. Scrubs, maybe. Are you a nurse? “And then I couldn’t decide whether to wait for another train or just run, so I ran – but I don’t really run, so it took even longer –”

Tomura doesn’t run, either. When he was doing the stupid online dating thing, he sorted out everybody who said more than one sentence about working out. You pause to suck down a breath, then keep talking. “I know everything I just said sounds like an excuse, and I know you’re leaving,” you say, “but I was hoping I could catch you so I could say I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to stand you up. I get it if you want to call it off.”

Before Tomura can answer or even think about what he’s going to say, Magne bursts out of the crowd. “I told you not to run off,” she scolds, collaring Tomura again. “If you don’t stay put, there’s no way she’s going to – oh! You’re here!”

You nod. Magne looks you up and down. “I told you to dress cute,” she scolds. “And to get here on time. I practically had to chain him to a streetlight so he wouldn’t escape.”

“I’m sorry,” you say. “My boss –”

“Of course,” Magne says, scowling. “He’s never met a good time he doesn’t want to ruin.”

Magne knows who your boss is? “How do you to know each other?”

“She’s a pharmacy tech at the place I go to pick up my E,” Magne says. “She’s the only one who works there who isn’t an asshole, and her boss is the biggest asshole of them all. I only go in there when she’s on and he’s off. But let me introduce you the right way. Shigaraki, this is – ”

Tomura misses your name the first time Magne says it, catches it the second time, but it barely registers except as something he probably shouldn’t forget. You’re pretty. You’re not an asshole, or at least you’re the same kind of asshole as Magne and everybody else Magne’s friends with, including Tomura. Your boss is the wrong kind of asshole, which means you probably didn’t blow Tomura off on purpose. And you ran here so you could meet him even when you knew you were really late. You must have really wanted to meet Tomura. What did Magne tell you about him?

Tomura can ask you about that later. “So?” Magne is saying expectantly. “Can I leave you two alone, or are you going to run away again?”

“No,” Tomura says. “You can go.”

You look surprised. “Um –”

“Now.”

Magne cackles. She snatches the hat off Tomura’s head, ruffles his hair, and slaps him on the back hard enough that he staggers. “Have fun! I want all the details later!”

“Sure,” you say, bewildered, as she kisses you on the cheek. Tomura’s going to have to talk to you about that – any details you share with Magne will be fair game for the rest of Tomura’s friends, and he’s not sure how much he wants them to know. “Um, bye.”

Magne waves and vanishes into the crowd. Now it’s just you and Tomura standing on the sidewalk. You shuffle off to one side, out of the way, and Tomura follows you. “Are you sure you still want to do this?” you ask once you’re both leaning against the railing. “I get it if you’re not in the mood. When I’ve gotten stood up, I haven’t wanted to –”

“You’ve never been stood up in your life,” Tomura says, and your expression changes from confused to offended. “Look at you.”

You look down at yourself, then back up at him. “What does that mean?”

“I didn’t know anything about you and I got here on time. If I knew what you looked like beforehand I’d have been two hours early.” It sounded like a compliment in Tomura’s head, but he can’t tell if you’re taking it that way. “People like you don’t get stood up for dates.”

“I wish that were true,” you say. You look away. “I know how it feels. I get it if you don’t want to go out anymore.”

Tomura pretends he’s thinking about it. “How far did you run to get here?”

“Sixteen blocks.”

“You ran sixteen blocks to meet me. That cancels out being late,” Tomura says. You look up, surprised for a second or two before the relief kicks in. “I still want to go out.”

“Me, too,” you say. You smile at him. Women don’t usually smile at Tomura. People don’t usually smile at Tomura. He doesn’t know what to do with it. “Thanks, Tomura. For giving me a chance.”

“Yeah,” Tomura says. “What do we do now?”

“I don’t really know,” you admit. “It’s been a while since I went on a date.”

“Same,” Tomura says. ‘Never’ counts as a while in his book. “I don’t know – grab drinks or something?”

You nod. “Can we find somewhere to sit down for a second first? I don’t usually run that much, and I don’t want to pass out on you.”

“You can pass out on me if you want,” Tomura says. You blink. Tomura facepalms even though you’re looking right at him. “There are benches back there.”

The crowd on the sidewalk is only getting denser. Tomura doesn’t want to get separated from you, so he tells you to hold onto the back of his shirt. You grab his hand instead, and you’re still holding it when the two of you find a place to sit down. Still holding it once you’re both settled, searching for something to talk about. Tomura’s not optimistic about this. You’re too good to be true – the kind of woman who’d run sixteen blocks to meet him and hold his hand is a kind of woman who doesn’t exist. Even so, it’s – nice. Tomura laces his fingers with yours and decides to enjoy it while it lasts.
