My fourth and final year is in full swing! To get started on big documents like literature reviews for my thesis, I find it easier to just start writing. Pen to paper, because I’m an old-fashioned girl (and Word is annoying when you need sub- and superscripts and words you don’t find in a dictionary, as does a chemist). I was then able to overcome the paralysis and start typing the actual thing.
(This was a brain dump — what do I know and where did I get the information from? What do I need to look up that should go into the review?)
Sorry for the absence lol
Omg life is so hectic right now - sorry for no posts for ages! So I have had my Cambridge interviews (I think they went... ok?) and am now revising for mocks beginning on Monday morning with German!
I’m at my friend’s house doing some Quizlets of new vocab :)
Hello everyone! Thank you so much for >800 followers! Sorry I haven’t posted recently. I’ve been so busy doing preliminary research for my IRP in German.
My theme is women’s lives in the GDR and there’s so much to say about it! So this morning and last night I was making notes on two of my sources - one of which was a very interesting 2005 paper which put everything into one place for me with lots of interesting stats I can use in my presentation.
Speaking of presentations, I’ve got to stand up in front of the class on Friday and talk about enthalpy, so I’ve just finished my snazzy PowerPoint on that.
Today I’ve also been revising stats and making sure I have actually understood the material.
I’m just waiting on my two new books to use as German sources.
Tonight, I’m going to read Selam Berlin (I put it down and now have got round to picking it back up again!) and do some analysis on Der Vorleser. I aim to complete 5 chapters as they are quite short. I’ll also do any homework I’m set today.
Have a great day!
Uni has worked me very hard this week, but the highlight was definitely being introduced to organometallics. These are some notes on bonding models of pi-acceptor ligands!
Coming up next week: revision for summer exams begins! My aim is to beat my Christmas exam marks - let’s do this!
Omg 😍😍😍

Today has been awesome. I had chemistry first thing, and then double German (my favourite class!), then I had some Galette des Rois in French and ended the day with Biology. No frees today but a really positive time all round :)
I’m sat doing homework now and I’ve promised myself I can watch a new TV programme that’s on later if I get it done haha
You know when you *should* work but you are having such a bad day you can’t? That’s me right now. And I’m cool with that
Sorry this is late - I had no WiFi yesterday at all! However, in my only free I made these notes on the brain :)
I hope you’re having a great week!
I moved into the University of Birmingham yesterday and met my lovely flatmates! I’m very excited to finally have a proper desk to work at - I have graduated from an almost-three-legged coffee table and an old pouffe :)
It’s a bit of an adjustment but it’s a lot of fun so far and I think things will turn out just fine. I love love love my campus; it’s so pretty!
After a much-needed month off, I decided to watch some chemistry lectures on YouTube to remind myself why I want to study this in the first place. I thought it would be a good idea to go right back to basics and give myself a rock-solid mathematical foundation to stand me in good stead for October.
If you’ve been following me for a while you might notice that this is not my beloved purple HP, but its sleeker, younger cousin - I retired that one and it is living out its last years with my mum. After 5 years of abuse, it deserves it!
Lauren, 22 - England - chemistry PhD student - studyblr - English, French (fluent), German (B2) - original and reblogged content - nice to meet you!
