The signs as various myths and legends surrounding the origin/creation of certain flowers (not the flowers directly associated with each zodiac sign).

ARIES // Amaryllis (Greek) – A love struck maiden longed for the handsome Alteo, but he was cold to her. In a desperate gesture, she pierced her heart with a golden arrow and walked to visit him every day. On the thirteenth day, beautiful scarlet flowers bloomed along the path from every drop of her blood. Alteo fell in love with her, and her heart was healed.

TAURUS // Rose (Greek) – Chloris, the goddess of flowers, found one of her beautiful nymphs dead in the woods. She cried, and turned body into a flower. She asked her husband Zephyr, the wind, to blow the clouds away so Apollo could shower her in sunlight. Dionysus added nectar for fragrance, and Aphrodite added pure beauty, then named it for her son, Eros, and hailed her the “Queen of Flowers”.

GEMINI // Foxglove (Celtic) – Foxgloves from “Folks Glove”, as in fairy folk. Fairies would hide in the bell blossoms and wear them as petticoats, caps and gloves. If you pluck the foxglove, it angered them and they may play tricks in revenge! Fairies would give the flowers to foxes so they wouldn’t get caught raiding chicken coupes. With the magic gloves on, they could steal eggs without making a sound.

CANCER // Pārijāta (Hindu) – Pārijāta was a princess who fell in love with the sun god, Surya. However, he left her for another. When he deserted her, the princess became hopeless and committed suicide. From her ashes grew a tree. Unable to stand the sight of the lover who broke her heart, the flowers only bloom at night under the eyes of the moon, and she sheds them like tear-drops before the sun rises.

LEO // Sunflower (Greek) – The nymph Clythia was in love with the God of the Sun, Apollo, but he shunned her and courted a princess. Jealous Clythia told the king who, furious at the princess, buried her alive. Saddened, Apollo went back to heavens without a word. She lay on the ground distraught for nine days, watching him, hoping for a single glance. Clythia wasted away and became a flower, whose petals still follow his chariot across the sky each day, waiting for forgiveness.

VIRGO // Aster (Greek) – When the god Jupiter decided to flood the earth to destroy the men constantly at war, the goddess Astraea was so upset she asked to be turned into a star. Her wish was granted, but when the flood waters receded she wept for the loss of lives. As her tears turned to stardust and fell to earth, the beautiful aster flower sprung wherever they landed.

LIBRA // Anemone (Greek) – Chloris, the goddess of flowers, was married to Zephyr, the god of the west wind. Zephyr fell in love with a beautiful nymph that served Chloris named Anemone. Jealous and angry, the goddess banished her to keep them apart, and Anemone died of a broken heart. Zephyr resurrected her as a flower. She withers every winter but returns every spring to greet Zephyr with open petals.

SCORPIO // Peony (Chinese) – Queen Wu was disheartened to see only winter jasmine in her garden. She wrote a poem to the goddess of flowers asking her to make everything bloom that night instead of waiting for spring. The next morning, all flowers flourished except the peony, which refused to bloom out of season. She was offended and banished it. Once gone, it bloomed beautifully. Furious, she ordered it to be burned – however the next year, the burnt peony grew back. With black petals.

SAGITTARIUS // Pa'u-o-Hi'iaka (Hawaiian) – When Hi'iaka, the goddess of island nature, was a baby her older sister, the Volcano goddess Pele, left her on the beach while she went fishing. Due to a storm, Pele was gone for a very long time. When she returned, she found flowering vines had grown over the baby to shield her from the sun. Hi'iaka now wears them as a skirt to protect her on adventures and in the forests.

CAPRICORN // Aconite (Greek) – As one of his twelve labors, the hero Hercules was sent to fetch the three-headed dog Cerberus from the underworld. With the help of Persephone, he was successful. The spittle of the beast dripped upon the rocky earth, and from it sprang the first aconite plant. The purple wolfsbane flowers are elegant, but it’s leaves and roots are deathly poisonous.

AQUARIUS // Iris (Greek) – The goddess Iris would bring messages to the gods across the sky, appearing to mortals as a rainbow. She acted as the link between the heavens and earth, where she left irises of many colors, the three upright petals symbolizing hope, valor, and wisdom. If purple Irises were planted over the graves of women, it would summon the Goddess, who would guide the dead in their journey.

PISCES // Water Lily (Brazilian) – When the moon goddess, Jaci, hid behind the mountains, she’d take beautiful girls with her and turn them into stars. Naiá, a girl who loved the goddess, dreamt of becoming a star, so she roamed the mountains every night. While resting by the lake, she saw the moon’s reflection, dove into the water and drowned. To reward Naiá for her sacrifice, Jaci turned her into a star different from all the others – the star of the waters.

The Sign’s Handwriting (Mercury)

**Mercury rules communication, speech, and writing, so it also determines handwriting. You can also check your sun sign for this.

Aries: big letters, gets sloppier as they get farther along—although it may not have been neat to begin with. bares down hard, breaks pencil tips easily. 

Taurus: rigid. classic. doesn’t venture far from the standard letter writing techniques. probably really good at cursive and calligraphy. 

Gemini: constantly changing the way they write letters, switches back and forth between print and cursive. probably good at imitating other people’s handwriting. pointy letters.

Cancer: pretty handwriting. simple. easy to read. letters are spaced kind of far apart. most likely to dot their i’s with circles or hearts.

Leo: big, fanciful letters. has a unique, creative way of writing. they probably do some odd little thing that most people find strange. most obnoxious signature ever.

Having seen various incorrect, incomplete and inaccurate lists of Norse gods circulating Tumblr, I have decided to write my own and also include common terminology alongside. I will also include other beings who exist within the old lore and modern traditions.

Aries: a condominium in a high rise at the crazy city life will suit these energetic people. at the city cos it's where they really belong, in a high rise, so they'll be far away from the bustling when they wanna recharge.

Taurus: in a quaint little town that looks like it's out of a disney or ghibli movie. they love it when a place makes them feel all gooey inside, however and whatever that is, so a beautiful quiet village will be a+++ for them

Gemini: they'd choose a nice loft where their work, family, friends, recreational places (basically all connections) are close. for them, it's okay to spend a bit more for a nice place that makes everything reachable.

Cancer: a very laid back farm! or a place with accessible vast lands. these family people don't need anything else anyway as long as they got their family with them, and their friends knowing where to find them.

Leo: they envision their selves living in a very grand abode because hell why not? but since they ain't stupid not to know how high maintenance a gigantic house can be, a villa would be suitable for their tastes.

Virgo: they'd go gaga for those house designs ikea promote; not too big not too small, minimalistic but very chic and organized. they'd want their place to be utilized and transform into whatever purpose they want.

Libra: a cabin, definitely a nice cozy cabin just in the middle of the crazy city life and tranquilizing seclusion. they want to settle down in a place where de-stressing is easy and balance is easy to reach.

Scorpio: they'd love a modern and sophisticated beach house where they have the free reign to talk long walks at the shore and de-clutter their thoughts, and invite family and friends for gatherings and catching up.

cancer: the mermaid with soft, smooth skin and a pale pink tail. her eyes are always expressive—sometimes they are alight with happiness, and sometimes they burn with anger. she loves all creatures, but it’s the humans that catch her eye. she can’t help falling in love with them from afar. 

leo: the mermaid with a tail of cobalt blue, her body adorned with gold jewelry, precious stones and pearls. she is the fastest swimmer, and loves to glide across the waves, letting the current pull her, laughter bubbling at her lips and a smile in her eyes. 

virgo: a more reserved mermaid, with a tail of sparkling silver. she has spiky black hair, and skin that is paler than usual, for she spends her time exploring the caves deep below rather than the beaches above. 

libra: a regal mermaid with beauty unmatched, long, luxurious hair, and a tail of magenta and red. she is sassy and charming, sometimes sultry, but also very sweet, and always kind to those in need. 

scorpio: the mermaid with a tail of deep purple and ebony, she has piercing violet eyes and hair of midnight black. she is quiet, sultry, and intuitive, and her nails and teeth are sharp, always ready for a hunt. she is the one to brave to the storms and the rocky, wild ocean while others go off and hide. 

sagittarius: an exotic mermaid, with a tail the color of sunsets and eyes that shine like one. she has travelled far and wide, collecting artifacts and jewelry from across the world. she never stays in one place too long, but she is kind to those she meets and always has wonderful stories to tell. 

capricorn: the mermaid with a tail of deep blue, high cheekbones and a jawline like a knife. there’s always a glint in her eye, like she knows something you don’t. she is regal and independent, and doesn’t worry herself with such frivolous things as humans, but rather such frivolous things as emeralds and pearls. 

aquarius: the mermaid with flowing hair and tail of teal green and aquamarine blue. her eyes are piercing, sparkling, so intense you have to look away. she swims about the reefs, splashing in the waves and basking in the sun. she is the only one who dares to go against the currents. 

pisces: the mermaid with a tail of pale purple that sparkles silver in the moonlight. she is sweet and dreamy, letting the current pull her to and fro, making friends with all the sea creatures she meets. she loves to stay up and stargaze late at night, unafraid of the dark and wild ocean that surrounds her.

For every animal in the sea, there is also a species of mermaid and/or type of mermaid child.

Shark

Skilled hunters, sensitive to smell, tend to have sharp, jagged teeth, usually terrifying in appearance

Octopus and Squid

Extremely intelligent, powerful but often docile, guardians of the krakens (you hear about them in shipwreck stories)

Whales

Not very social but easy to communicate with, difficult to upset, trusting, have incredible hearing

Dolphin

More intelligent than any other species (by nature/birth), mischievous, very social, helpful, work with water deities

Undine

Half sea horse and half human, many can perform magic, often aggressive, manipulative if tempted

Sea Otter

Humanoid with otter-like traits, lungs instead of gills, live on land & in the sea, lazy and stubborn, gatherers, fighters/protectors

The list goes on forever, as the sea is home to so much life. A few sea creatures and their respective attributes are under the cut, the list inspired by a post I read a while back that got me to do some research. Note that there are also mermaids / types of mermaid children for these species.
