By saying that people read too much into arajin I meant people coming up with complex theories like his character is some grand, groundbreaking example for why this anime genre is toxic or how he must have an ab*sive father and that's where his behaviour comes from bc they can't accept that he's a moron. They're trying to lessen his actions bc surely arajin is much more than this. However there is a chance that his character isn't actually that deep. I hope we get an explanation for his actions, however arajin just seems like he's much more badly written than the other characters and I honestly don't think we'll end up loving him the way we do the other characters by the end of this even if his character grows a bit. He'd have to do a complete 180 and idk if this story has time for it.
Well there is that. I’ve seen the ‘abusive father’ theories popping up but truth be told, I don’t buy it since rudeness towards everyone, including his mother aside, I don’t see Arajin having that kind of dad (unless Utsumi says so somewhere along the at which I doubt) to justify his rude behaviour since he is well, a rude teenager that’s that.
Still, I do hope there will be enough episode time to develop Arajin and whatnot since we only have 7 episodes to go but hopefully there will be enough time that is assuming the writers properly implement the character development without rushing it (that is if they don’t overwork and have a horrible production cost which would affect the product badly and do hope they have a proper work management)
Some thoughts about the nature of the majins and their wishes:
In regards to the plot, I'm pretty sure the "wishes" are less about having them granted and more for the majins to know how to connect with their hosts emotionally so they can fully possess them. Senya has the decency to at least ask Arajin in order to establish some pretext of understanding (even though he can't really relate to Arajin's specific wish). On the other hand, Ichiya imposes his own wish/emotions on Matakara, taking advantage of the boy's personal fears and current vulnerability.
Thematically, I can see these wishes being reflections of Arajin and Matakara's insecurities. Arajin's wish is clearly known (and I've talked a little about it's emptiness before). Matakara's is a bit harder to pin down. He's always wanted to be a Honki person, but why? Ichiya twists it into being about raw strength, but we know Matakara also valued the purity aspect his brother told him about. Perhaps he believed that part of the path would protect him from his darker emotional tendencies. This unfortunately did not work out for him, but the friends he made at Minato Kai become something of a support group. They were able to be there for him when he got overwhelmed. Matakara knows he can't wish his fears away, and has somewhat learned to cope with that, but his current mental instability is allowing Ichiya to manipulate him.
since they made mahoro's birthday valentine's day, i think it'd be fun to make matakara's white day/pi day and arajin's on april fools

my honest reaction after watching what I thought for months was Arajin gazing at Matakara and Mahoro just for it to turn out that he was looking at some random girls:
...arajin is basically a reverse utena.
as a child utena loses all hope, but when she fails to save young anthy she vows to become a prince so she'll have the power to save her. after their meeting utena also forgets that anthy was her motivation for wanting to be a prince in the first place, only seeing her in a dream near the end of the series. meanwhile as a child arajin vows to become a honki person, but after being unable to save young matakara he loses all hope and abandons his dream. he tries to forget matakara but is constantly haunted by the memory of him, both in nightmares and whenever he sees someone he feels too weak to save in danger. they both draw power from spirits that follow them, to varying levels of seriousness. they both wear masks of masculinity, but utena wears hers to chase her past while arajin wears his to escape his past. utena is constantly chased by men who want to use her while arajin enthusiastically chases a girl who uses him. ara-chan and utena-sama. am i making any sense.
