i love when fandoms just collectively seem to get on board with a character that doesnt have a tail having a tail. good shit. all on the same page.
Out of curiosity, what do you think Alastor's past as a human was like?
Viv has mentioned many times that Al is a character of duality. In episodes where he is particularly cruel (ep 5) they also make a point to show an unexpectedly soft side of him as well (hugging Mimzy)
How far does that soft side extend? I bring up his human life since most fans seem to be in agreement that Alastor had a very loving mother he cared for dearly. (Which is a headcanon I personally love because that guy needs to have at least one person who genuinely cared in his life and afterlife)
Do you think his affection for his mother is still something present after a century in hell? Would it affect any of his decisions ?

I absolutely love that Vivzie made him morally-complex because it enriches his character so much.
He is a cold-blooded, heartless killer that somehow still has a heart in his chest and that heart can be warm. Personally, I love the headcanon that he's a mama's boy; he seems to respect women more in general based on his relationships in the show. Which tells us that while his mom was loving, she could be a badass at times who knew how to hold her ground. I'd imagine she's one of those moms that yell at you and smack you over the head with a shoe if you say something dumb. It would be so sweet if he got that "don't take shit from others" from her.
But, I also think she might have inadvertently encouraged his behaviour. How or why remains ambiguous, but I personally believe it's little details like her possibly seeing a hidden violence in him, but not acknowledging it since he "needs to protect himself after all" or "my sweet boy could never do those things", or perhaps instilling in him a belief that he "needs to protect her and other people who might be in dire situations" or her constantly telling him what a wonderful, smart, brave man he's becoming etc. etc.
I like to think Alastor is very loyal to a select few people in his life. He's someone who is all too aware of the power and danger he exudes and I think that self-awareness would make him more conscious about how he treats people and how they perceive him. With his enemies, he revels in the fear he instills in them. While with his friends he would revel in the knowledge that they need him and that they rely on him. Because he's familiar with the games overlords play, of the trust that's as fickle as blade of grass, so he needs someone who he knows won't betray him. Eg. Husk because of his deal, eg. Mimzy who relies on him for help, eg. Rosie who relies on him as an ally, eg. Niffty who works for him and seems to genuinely like doing so, eg. his mom who is related to him. All of them have something that Alastor needs: to feel valued. He needs them just as much as they need him and whether or not he actually cares about his friends is overshadowed by that codependency. That's why he wouldn't betray that select few.
And we know he's an attention whore based on... well, everything about him. (Him trying to gauge interest from Carmilla and getting dissapointed. Him trying to defenestrate Lucifer from the hotel because with him there Alastor wouldn't be "needed" etc. etc)
I think that need to feel powerful and necessary might have subconsciously ingrained in him a sort of inner hatred for society. He thinks himself better, his ego is massive, and since society is so cruel and deceitful and perfidious, he will "rise above it" by using his power to even out the playing field by taking out the vilest among it (overlords, abusers etc.) and helping the less fortunate (eg. the comic with the sheep. I think that comic gave is a very interesting glimpse into Al's character). That "I'm not like the rest" is blaringly obvious from his condescending behaviour. That stubbornness to obey society doesn't reflect in just his actions, but in his ENTIRE appearance as well. He's adamant about radio being the best medium, even though no one uses it and it's old as shit. His clothes are a fashion travesty, that period blood colour almost lurid to the eyes along with the torn patches in his coat. His hair is just... awful. A red bob with an undercut that goes up to half his head. He REFUSES to conform to society's standards about what's acceptable, or trending, or popular. He hates it. Even though he has the power and means to acomplish all of it, to be successful, to be sheek, to dress conventionally attractive, he doesn't do it. Almost as a huge, rebellious "fuck you."
And I think that hidden detestation for society in general is all the more sparked by the fact that he's Creole and is witnessing firsthand the cruelty and injustice humans are capable of.
I just think he's a very interesting character. I love the ask and overall I don't think Alastor is too different as a demon to how he was as a human.
baby boy baby... evil
a quick animation of crt vox i made instead of sleeping
About feeling abandoned in both directions. Complicated and Sad, you know?
wouldn't it be uniquely awful if voxval turns out to be healthy. if he and vox cuddle, if they do aftercare, if they genuinely look out for each other. wouldn't it be especially painful for angel to see val being warm & happy & doting with vox immediately after forcing angel to work sixteen hours straight in the studio with no breaks. if we see more scenes like the end of poison, where angel is miserable and traumatized and then he looks out over the balcony and sees voxval tenderly holding hands. if we have to struggle with the painful reality that all too often, someone can be both a violent abuser and a caring boyfriend, and neither one negates the other
First ever animatic, done!! (≧∇≦)ノ And it's past radiostatic fluff, simple and happy~ I didn't want to jump into a big project right away, so instead of working with one of the ideas I've wanted to do for a while, I went with half of a song that I got stuck in my head and fit well enough lol
Btw, there's sth I wasn't able to keep while translating the text for the subtitles; I've used the line "Lubię patrzeć na twoją paszczę" (I like to stare at your mug) as a pun, bc "paszcza" while in the informal language would be equal to "mug" (as in, face) literally it means "maw"!
i haaate when ppl are talking abt mammal colouration and they bring up mandrills but not vervet monkeys.... fake fans
