First, I am so glad I’m not alone in this. I cannot view CX-2 without the subtext that he is Tech’s body. Part of me wants to hope that maybe in a tales of the clones we’ll get some more CX-2 but I really don’t know.
I think the way he was killed was the show telling us that there was none of the old Tech left in him, his body was simply reanimated and Hunter killing him was symbolically putting an end to the horrible tool Hemlock had turned him into. (I also think Crosshair knew he was Tech, he kept glancing back at him after he died)
But there could have been a fragment of Tech still in there, and we’ll never know. And that’s what i think was lost in a reveal. They left us with the haunting idea that he could have been Tech, and that was it.
That being said, I got to meet Dee Bradley Baker at a con recently, and guys I wanted answers. I told him I really thought CX-2 was Tech (meant to say I really think he was Tech), and he immediately said “Oh, a lot of people did. But I’m glad he wasn’t.” OH OUCH that instantly crushed me! He proceeded to talk about how he wanted Tech to have his heroic moment, and that he believed his sacrifice was good.
And how do you respond to that 😭
I’m glad he was satisfied with the ending of his character, but to me that doesn’t mean CX-2 wasn’t supposed to be him at one point, and he’s glad they didn’t go that direction. Heck, let’s take a leap here and say maybe he recorded voice lines for a reveal that was scrapped and he’s glad it didn’t happen that way. Cause let’s be real, Tech being CX-2 it is a horribly sad thing, and a heroic sacrifice is a much better ending for the character than mind controlled imperial soldier, so I don’t blame Dee for not wanting that.
In conclusion, no one will ever be able to convince me CX-2 wasn’t Tech, even Dee Bradley Baker
(I do need to say he was a very lovely man and we talked about other characters too)
So. I’m. Haunted by the lighting and posing on the CX-2 poster, haunted by the fact that no one will straight up say that Tech is dead or that he wasn’t CX-2, wondering if the CX-Tech plot wasn’t dropped after all, and hoping against hope that they’re putting this man through the wringer so they can pull him out and give him the happiest possible ending. CX-2 had BETTER be in the next series and he had better be Tech, because I need this to make sense. I mean, I’ll buy that the spear symbolically killed the CX-2 persona. I’ll buy, “Oh, he had to be Crosshair’s shadow in the last third of this series but we had to foreshadow him being Tech in the next one.” “The damage you sustained on Skako Minor all of your behavioral modifications,” coming back around. I’ll buy someone surviving that in the GFFA because they can in the real world (warning for a picture of a real life injury in the link). I’ll even buy that the electricity didn’t kill him because the boulders and the waterfall definitely should have (and it’s Star Wars). I really do not care about plausible survivability. I just want the story to make sense and for Tech to get back to his family.
Anyway all I’m saying is why release a poster that’s going to fuel speculation about a guy whose face we never see after the series is done and out? If you actually dropped that plot, why not change the poster? Or just not release it? Why do this? What is the purpose of this?? Because if the purpose was to drive me, specifically, insane, then congratulations, Lucasfilm! Mission accomplished.
this book was a painful rollercoaster and I loved it

I met Dee Bradley Baker!! (In Echo cosplay!)
I had voice memo recording in my pocket while I was talking to him, so I got most of what he said and wanted to share!
I brought up CX-2 (cause I had to) and said that he was a really intriguing character and that I wanted to cosplay him next and he said:
“Oh! Yeah, really scary. That was a weird one to play, cause I did a slower clone voice but they fudged it some so it sounds different. Really lethal, frightening”
We also touched on Crosshair and Echo having really incredible stories after I mentioned they were my favorite.
Then this was his response to me telling him I really thought CX-2 was Tech (which crushed me a bit inside 🫠) :
“Oh a lot of people did. I’m glad he wasn’t. I want Tech to have his heroic moment. The ending that every clone wish they had. That you save your colleagues…it’s brilliant, the way he figures it all out, he makes the long shot, and it was good.”
My heart literally dropped when he said “I’m glad he wasn’t” like OH ouch (even though I 100% still believe CX-2 was Tech and Dee’s just glad it was never confirmed to be him)
Being so honest: I felt a bit empty after the autograph interaction after I’d had so much anxiety leading up to meeting him, but in retrospect he was very nice!! He said he was impressed with my armor and took a picture of me, which is crazy what do you mean I’m on his camera roll-
I saw him again later to get a picture, and I said “Thanks for the hand!” (my friend suggested I say that) And he smiled and said “that’s a great line” which was a very nice close to the interaction.
Here’s the autograph, he signed my scomp arm!!
I’m cosplaying her next 🫡
Even she thinks that's unoriginal.
