The Sunny rocked in the gentle evening breeze, the sun retreated behind the horizon. Purple and orange hues stretched across the galley. A book laid heavy in your lap as you relaxed with the remnants of the crew after dinner. You had means to finish a chapter before you wound down. But, the rare, sweet peace made your body feel like lead. The soothing song of clinking dishes, muffled snoring, and soft scribbling filled the space with a cozy air. Since you joined the merry-band of pirates, you quickly learned that times of silence were few and far between. You wouldn’t dare disturb it.
Nami hunched over her logbook next to you, charting a map with fervor. On the other side, Luffy rested on your shoulder. Food crumbs were scattered across his drooling mouth as he slept. Across the way, Sanji hummed a soft tune as he flitted around the room. The song pulled you in and with each note, you found yourself lost in thought, rereading the same words over again.
From the corner of your eye, you felt the cook’s lingering gaze on you. Not that it bothered you; it gave you another reason to abandon your book. You both were playing a silent game 一 a game you had been playing for weeks. A game he was failing miserably at.
Your eyes lock again for a moment, the darkened cerulean meeting yours with uncertain curiosity.
You raised a playful brow, letting your eyes wander. His neck and jaw tightened, a splatter of red rising to his ears as his adam’s apple wavered in his throat. His tune faltered, and he quickly glanced away, fumbling with the cutlery he had in hand. You feel a chill run down your spine, trying to quell the trail of goosebumps on your arm.
Nami let out a groan, looking at the porthole behind you. The wind rattled against the glass, and Luffy stirred, pressing closer to you for warmth.
"We're getting close to a winter island,” she announced, tapping her pen to the journal. "Expect snow in the morning."
“Snow?” you felt your heart flip in your chest, excitement rising in your voice. “Like a lot of it?”
“...That’s right,” Nami smiled, pushing her glasses up the brim of her nose. “Should’ve remembered snow isn’t common for you.”
“Does frosted grass count?” you offer sheepishly.
Sanji chuckle grabbed your attention as he approached with a folded blanket tucked beneath his arm.
“Here, you’ll be needing this, then,” He hands the soft fleece to you and you reach out, gentle fingers brushing yours. It was a quick, unassuming exchange. You stare at the crisp white linen of his shirt ruffled at the cuff, straining under his toned arm.
“I would hate to see you catch a chill,” He looks up at the ceiling, avoiding your eyes. He cleared his throat and whipped around, busying himself again. You mumble a weak ‘thank you’, ignoring how your fingers still burn from the feathered touch. You shimmy the warm fleece over you and Luffy’s shoulder. It smelled like smoked tobacco and vanilla extract, and you pushed the urge down to bury your nose in the fabric.
He turned to an unimpressed Nami. “Guessing soup or stew for tomorrow?”
“Soup?” Your insatiable Captain groans in his sleep, a dazed smile playing on his drooling lips.
Nami scoffed, rolling her eyes. A pen flies through the air and hits Luffy square between the eyes.
“Ow..! What was that for?” He croaked blearily, rubbing his head.
“All you ever think about is food, I bet you were dreaming about it too.” She chides, closing her journal with a soft thud, collecting her things. “Come on, time for bed. Tell the others about the snow.”
“It’s snowing?!” Luffy boomed, soaring up, wide-eyed with joy. The blanket fell off your once-taken shoulder.
“Not now, later.” Nami re-iterated with annoyance. “Come on,”
“Night, you two,” “G’Night guys!”
And with that, the galleyway soon was draped in another tranquil silence. With how cold the temperature was dropping, you wouldn’t have been surprised if it was snowing right now. You pull the blanket towards you closer, brain racing with the promises of a new experience tomorrow. You had joined the straw hats out of desperation for adventure, to see the world for more than what your tropical island could offer. Now, it felt like it was finally paying off.
“Excited?” Sanji’s voice jerked you out of your thoughts. You look up, watching him polish spoons like second nature, blonde hair falling like golden silk in front of his eyes.
“Uh- yeah, ” You mumbled into the fleece, burying yourself further. “I guess you say that,”
“Come on,” He throws the towel over his shoulder, voice low and teasing, “ indulge me, sweetheart.”
Ignoring the way your stomach flips at the deep rumble of his voice, you give in.
“I dunno, it’s just,” You admit, shifting in your seat, “There’s only so much reading you can do before you wonder what it would be, ya’know?” You stare down at the forgotten book, closing it and placing it on the table.
“I think I get what you mean,” The tenderness in his voice caught you off guard as he continued. “-beauty like that you can only witness in person, no words would do it justice,” When you meet his kind gaze again, your mind goes blank, and you have to remember how to breathe.
“S-so true,” You cleared your throat, mouth impossibly dry. “Well, u-uh, let me get ready for bed, I want to be the first one up!” You jumped up, the blanket forgotten on the bench as the pen in your lap clattered to the ground. You scuttled quickly out the galley way with a rushed ‘good night!’, leaving Sanji as the last one standing.
Sanji blinked, and sighed, staring at the door where you had left. His shoulders drooped low at the brief, sweet moment. He fished in his pocket for a cigarette, shaking his head. He lit the cigarette and watched hot smoke curl in the cool air. He lets his mind wander to the promise of tomorrow, the promise of seeing you again.
“Goodnight, Princess.” He murmured out to the empty room.
-
That chilly night you tossed and turned. Even as your body thrummed with hot adrenaline, you shivered. As much as you tried to bundle yourself deeper into your blankets, the cold seeped into your bones. Your nose and cheeks burned from the chill. You stared out the porthole, watching the clear black of night until you drifted off to sleep.
-
You wake up with a start. Bright white light shines in, and you look over at the others, who are still fast asleep. Nami’s soft snores and Robin’s even breathing are muffled by their blankets. You slowly peel the covers away, hissing at the cold that bites your skin. Excited breaths plume in the air like smoke, as you tip-toe slowly out the room. Opening the door, the sight blows you away, air escaping your lungs. You didn’t think it would be this magnificent. Soft snow covered the tops of everything in a thick layer of bright white made you squint. The rising sun shot gorgeous rays of yellow across the falling snow, sparkling in the morning light.
An icy blast of cool wet air brushes past your legs and feet, and you quickly shut the door to not disturb the women sleeping. Your barren feet take their first steps onto the deck, and you barely can contain your excitement with each skip you take down towards mens quarters, you couldn’t be the only person to witness this. Thinking back to your conversation with Sanji last night, heat fills your body even as your toes begin to turn numb.
Fresh footprints lead you to the door, and you quickly slip inside. enveloped in a loud chorus of groans and snores. You scan the room as your feet heat up on the solid wood. You tiptoed over Zoro and Chopper who huddled for warmth. Past Usopp and Luffy’s hammock, you looked for a tuft of blonde hair with no luck. You cursed under your breath. He must be up already, you thought. You turn behind, looking at your sleeping Captain.
Guess he would do. You poke at his cheek softly.
“Pstt.. Luffy..” He groaned, swatting your finger away and turned over. You shake him this time, watching his head jostle around. “wake up, it's snowing, come o-”
“SNOW?!” His eyes shoot open, screaming at the top of his lungs. The rest of the cabin jumped up with a bewildered confusion. Before you could apologize, Luffy was grabbing Usopp by the nose and you by the wrist, pulling you out onto the deck.
-
You screamed as you skipped around the deck. The snow crunched under your feet, the frigid air biting your exposed skin as soaked in the new sensation. You squeal as you flounce around, the fresh snow upturned by each step.
-
Sanji watched from the doorway curiously, and he couldn’t help the cheesy smile stretching his face. God, you were gorgeous like this, He thought. He watched you play in the snow with wonderment, Luffy and Usopp’s cheers muffled in the background. How could he deny himself with the pleasure of watching you? You were like a dream, something he was convinced he conjured in his brain to torture himself with.
All night, he was awake, picturing your first moments in the winter, how you would glow against the snow. How the snowflakes would fall on your eyelashes, begging him to swipe them away. He imagined would be able to provide you with warmth after a day of reliving your childhood anyway you needed him to, if you willed it. These thoughts plagued him well into the night, till the sun threatened to peek over the horizon as he watched out the port hole as it began to fog over with frost, too late into the morning to fall asleep. He rubbed his tired eyes, the sight of you absolutely vibrant with joy fueling his exhausted and needy heart.
Even with his answered prayers, he couldn’t help but worry about your lack of clothes. Where the hell were your coat and shoes? He worried on his bottom lip, glancing at the ice bitten soles of your feet, trying to keep his eyes away from the way your shirt rode up with every leap forward.
Had he been careless? He felt responsible for your lack of winter preparedness. His brows furled in worry as he watched you slip onto your back.
His stomach dropped. He vaulted over the railing, dress shoes sinking into the frigid snow. With each determined flounce towards you, his socks became sodden with cold water.
“You alright, gorgeous? Where’s your coat and shoes?” He flits above you nervously, his shallow breaths fogging in the crisp winter air.
“You’ll freeze solid in this weathe-” He was cut off by your floaty laughter, his heart seized and banged rapidly against his ribs.
“This is so much fun,” You laughed, arms outstretched as you made snow angels below him, beaming with happiness. “Join me Sanji!”
His brain was short-circuiting as he stood there with his mouth agape. Everything in his body wanted to get him into the snow next to you, to bury his hands into your side and roll around in the fluff, but looking at your bright red palms made him stop.
“No, We need to get ready first, up you go,” He holds out a hand, and you whine in protest, but begrudgingly take his hand. He hisses at the soft cold hand, clasping it gently as he pulls you up.
“Your hands are so cold...” He murmured. Without thought, he rubs your fingers softly in his hand, his curly eyebrows furrowing. A chill runs through your spine, but you feel like you're sweating at the soft touch.
He slowly brings life back into your fingers as you stare in silence. His other hand catches yours and he cupped them gently, bringing them to his chapped, pink lips. They form into a soft ‘o’ as he exhales balmy, heavy breaths into your trembling fingers. Even with the winter that surrounded you, you were going to melt into the deck of the Sunny if he continued. You squeeze your eyes shut and look away. It was all too much.
You squirm under the touch, but don’t pull away. “You don’t have to do that.”
“Yes I do,” He shakes his head, cheeks dusting pink, “Wouldn’t want any of these pretty fingers to freeze and fall off, right?” You don’t respond, staring at your feet. He always had a way with words that left you speechless. His gaze follows your, smacking his teeth.
“You’re killing me,” He sighed, before dropping your hands, “Up you go,” With a swift movement, your frozen feet are swept off the ground. You let out a small noise of protest, but quickly wrapped your arms around his neck.
“But the others-”
“-Are complete idiots. You can come back out here later when you have appropriate winter clothes.” He made quick, determined strides towards the galley door swinging it open. Sweltering heat embraced you as he placed you on the bench, the smell of tomato and garlic wafting in the air.
“Let's warm up and dry off first. I’ll make you hot chocolate, too.” He rambled, clasping his hands together as he scanned the room, “Or would you rather have cider? You think on that, I’ll be back in one minute, my little snow angel.”
As quick as he leaves, he’s back again, shutting the frigid air out. “I brought a towel, a change of clothes, and a spare coat. Nami picked them out, don’t worry, I didn’t want-”
“Someone’s mothering me right now,” You finally cut him off.
You watch his windburned face twist in embarrassment. “Someone has to, don't they?”
“And that someone should be you?” You tease with no bite in your words, but shift uncomfortably in your seat. The more you warmed up, the more you were hyperaware how your soaked t-shirt clung to your back, dripping onto your legs.
You weren’t the only one who had notice, when a towel was shoved quickly in front of your face. Sanji’s eyes glued to the ceiling. You take it, wiping and patting yourself dry from the melted snow.
what a weird way to end a fic ik i suck for it, but I got pretty uninspired there at the end. I have so many ideas but I suck at the romance sometimes. I used to rp a lot eons ago when I was a teenager and am just really trying to gain confidence in my writing again after that trauma, iykyk LMAO
I dunno if i’ll come back to edit this or finish my idea. Let me know if you liked it though!
wanna read more? check out my other fics (x)

_____ Pairing: Sanji x Female Reader Summary: Sanji wakes before the dawn breaks, and so you find yourself doing the same to keep him company Warnings: Fluff [One Piece Masterlist] _____
Sanji wakes up before five every morning to prepare breakfast for the crew and prepare meals for the day. He is used to waking up to the chill that comes with a dawning day and pulling himself from the warmth of his bed. But the one thing he despised most was leaving you beneath blankets and having to begrudgingly remove you from his embrace. You always looked so beautiful as you slept, and his heart could only beat faster when you reached for his warmth as he pulled away, only making him want to stay.
He was in awe of your love; he couldn't believe you were his.
The pleasant company of you in his room was a stark contrast to the dim kitchen where he would be left to prepare meals for the day alone. Despite the sound of Brook playing his violin into the early morning, he could not help but selfishly miss your presence in the daybreak. He was so used to your words frantically reaching the air or your presence next to him, that he could only wait for the sun to bring you from your slumber and back to him again.
However, unbeknownst to Sanji, you have started to take more notice of the fact that your boyfriend would often be gone from bed whenever you woke. In fact, rarely did you wake up to his warmth next to you, and his peaceful face as he slept or stared adoringly to you. So, you had decided to embark on a secret little mission of yours, one that may require earlier nights, but hopefully result in mornings spent with your beloved.
Today, was the beginning of those mornings.
You can feel Sanji stir from next to you, and trying to hide a smile, you pretend to be asleep. You can feel his arms shift from around you and you hear his sigh as he realises he needs to get up for another day. A few moments pass before he gently shifts you from his arms, and places a soft kiss on your head. "Good Morning, love." His words are soft-spoken as to not 'wake' you but low from his sleep, and it makes your heart jolt in your chest. He then groans and pulls himself to his feet, before stepping to the door and leaving for the kitchen.
You wait two beats before deciding to join him.
Sanji has only just started retrieving ingredients from the fridge and picking out utensils when he hears the creak of the door behind him. Figuring it might be Brook who sometimes comes in for a cup of tea, he doesn't turn at first. "Morning Brook," he says casually, but what greets him instead is a sudden but familiar warmth that has his heart hammering. "Morning, love," you say, pressing your face into Sanji's back and relishing the warmth of him in contrast to the cool morning air. "Expecting someone else?"
Sanji pauses for only a moment in pleasant surprise before he turns from within your arms so he can look down at you. You smile sleepily up at him, and you appreciate the way his eyes seem to enlighten as he looks at you, a gentle smile on his face. "Love, why are you up so early? Aren't you cold? Tired? You can go back to bed if you-" You shake your head against his chest, shushing his concerns and rolling your eyes. "I'm fine, Sanji. Besides, I wanted to keep you company."
One of Sanji's hands reaches for the loose strands of your slightly dishevelled hair, tucking it behind your ear and lingering there. He stares at you in silent wonderment for a moment, how someone so kind and beautiful and loving could care for him in the way that you do. He places a delicate kiss on your head and you smile up at him at the action, just as you hear Brook's violin gently start to play a tune into the early morning. "This is actually kinda nice," you murmur and Sanji's fondness only grows.
"Let me make some tea for you, love."
Sanji's gentle voice interrupts the rhythm of slow swaying but it is you who pulls away from the confines of his arms. "No, no, you continue with your meal prep, I can make us the tea." Before your boyfriend can say anything to retaliate, you have reached for the kettle, and so Sanji joins you by your side as he heats up the stove and starts cutting up vegetables. You teasingly bump his hip with yours, as you reach for two mugs and start boiling the water.
Time passes in the ease of the other's presence; you sip your tea and help Sanji prepare breakfast. During the quiet of the morning, the two of you find yourself comfortable in the domesticity of it all, as Sanji guides your hands to a variety of tasks. You spill your words easily into the morning air, of your plans for the day, of funny things you saw the prior day, of anything that's on your mind. Throughout, all Sanji does is smile softly and nod to your rambling with keen interest.
You only stop when your tasks are finished and you feel you have been talking too much, hearing too much of Sanji's silence. "Love, are you okay? You've been quiet." You ask as you carry finished plates of breakfast to the dining table. But Sanji only looks to you with an expression adorned in love. "Everything's perfect, love. You are perfect." He walks over to you and suddenly you are in his arms once more, as he leans down and captures your lips. You kiss him back with equal fervour and he feels your own smile on your lips.
The both of you pull away just in time for the kitchen door to slam open.
"Sanji, I'm hungry!!"
"Morning Sanji-kun, [y/n]!!"
"Good morning!!"
"Hey, cook! Where's my breakfast?"
The rowdy crew enter the confines of the dining area and makes their way happily to the meals that have been prepared and are waiting for them. Suddenly your quiet morning has disappeared, replaced by a lively atmosphere. "Morning," you reply back in a sing-song voice, smiling as Nami gives you a knowing glance. But you simply take Sanji's hand in yours and guide him to the dining table as he obliges to your actions in contentedness.
"All right, let's eat!!"
Luffy's voice is all it takes for everyone to start their meals, and you do the same, but Sanji can't help but sneak glances at you throughout. When you finally meet his gaze and smile, a light blush adorns his face.
All of a sudden, the morning becomes his favourite time of the day.

Summary: Just two shy oblivious fools in love. Tags: f!reader, no use of y/n, pure tooth-rotting fluff
Note: i imagined the reader here being the same one from my other fic “Good Mornings”, so this can be read as a continuation to that, but can definitely be read as a one-shot too!
A now familiar sight greeted you as you stepped into the kitchen of the Thousand Sunny – Sanji, his back to you as he tirelessly worked on preparing today’s breakfast. It had fallen into your routine to join the blonde chef in the kitchen every morning, yet no matter how many times you've seen it, you never got tired of watching the man cook.
They say the way to one’s heart is through the stomach. You never truly understood what that meant until you met Sanji. You fell in love at first bite with his cooking, but the more you got to know him, the more you found yourself falling for the blue-eyed cook himself. You were captivated by his charm, his kindness, his gentleness, and the way he deeply cared for each of his crewmates – yes, even the mosshead.
A cup of coffee awaited you on the kitchen bar, steam still billowing off the mug. Sanji had memorized by now the hour and minute you usually come into the kitchen. He had gotten the timing of serving your coffee down to a science, making the drink just the right temperature for your first sip of the day – not too hot that it would scald your tongue, but also not left on the table long enough for it to be unpleasantly lukewarm.
You took a deep breath through your nose, savoring the usual aroma of coffee and bacon, but there was also a hint of something else wafting through the air today. Something sweet – a delicate blend of vanilla, butter, and sugar.
“Oh, good morning, sweetheart!” Sanji called out as he noticed you, and you felt your heart involuntarily skip a beat.
The nickname didn’t use to affect you this much. Sanji had been calling you sweetheart since the very first moment he saw you, eyes full of hearts and arms waving to grab your attention. Truthfully, you found it annoying at first, even more so when you realized he acted like that with every single woman he met. But, somehow, somewhere along the way, you found yourself addicted to hearing him call you the term of endearment, even when you thought he didn’t actually mean it. How could he, when he called every other woman that?
Little did you know, somehow, somewhere along the way, Sanji had miraculously found himself looking less and less at other women. He didn’t even notice it until one day, Nami asked if he was feeling sick, thinking something was wrong because he hadn’t flirted with her for a record three days straight. Nami eventually figured out that Sanji hadn’t dropped his lovesick act, he was just reserving it for you. She didn’t say a thing, though, secretly entertained by your and Sanji’s obliviousness to each other’s true feelings.
Sanji set down a plate of heart-shaped sugar cookies next to your coffee and winked at you, “Something sweet for someone sweet.”
He really needed to stop saying lines like that before you end up in the sick bay with heart failure.
A little peek at the jar on the counter showed you that the rest of the cookies he had set aside for your crewmates were all round-shaped, unlike the hearts he gave you. You tried not to read too much into it, lest you get your hopes up.
“Try dipping them into the coffee, dear, it’ll balance out the sweetness,” Sanji suggested as he returned to the stove, flipping some more bacon and adding them to the already massive pile on a plate.
You took a cookie and dipped it into your coffee, as per Sanji’s instruction, and you couldn’t stop the moan rising out from your throat as the bittersweet taste mingled exquisitely upon your tongue.
Sanji froze at the sound, before clearing his throat awkwardly, “Enjoying the cookies?”
He turned off the stove and started wiping down the oil splatters off the counter.
“They’re perfect.” You told him as you popped another one of the buttery goodness into your mouth. Jokingly, you added, “I’m afraid you’re gonna have to make these for me every day for the rest of your life, Sanji.”
You couldn’t see his face, but you could hear the sincerity in his tone when he replied, “That would be my greatest pleasure, sweetheart.”
His heartfelt remark caused a tightness in your chest, and you were suddenly awash with an irresistible wave of affection for the cook. You got up from your seat, your feet unwittingly carrying you toward the man still clearing up the countertop.
Once you were right behind him, you wrapped your arms gently around his slim waist and rested the side of your face against his back, “Thanks, Sanji. You’re always so sweet to me.”
Sanji’s whole body stiffened under your touch, and you felt your heart drop. What were you thinking, suddenly hugging him like this? Of course he’d feel uncomfortable.
You immediately started to remove your arms, but he urgently grabbed onto them, stopping you from letting go of the embrace. You looked up at Sanji curiously, only to find him tilting his head up toward the ceiling to prevent a nosebleed from streaming down his face.
“Oh, shoot, Sanji!” You yanked your arms away from him, grabbing a dishcloth and pressing it up to his nose.
Sanji’s face was bright red with embarrassment as you wiped the blood away. A laughter tinted with mortification bubbled out of you, “Sorry, sorry! I won’t do that again!”
His hand swiftly reached up to grab your wrist, and you stared at him in confusion. He refused to meet your eyes, and his voice was small when he finally said, “I don’t mind if you do that again.”
You stood in stunned silence, processing his words. Did that mean he liked that you hugged him?
Sanji took a deep breath, looking oddly determined as he finally made eye contact with you.
“No, actually, I want you to do that again. Please.” His voice cracked slightly with nerves as he hurriedly added, “But only if you want to.”
His shyness, so different from his usual over-the-top flirting, surprised you. It felt like he was giving you a peek at his genuine feelings that up till now had been thoroughly disguised by layers of exaggerated acts.
“Just, uh, give me a warning next time, maybe?” Sanji chuckled nervously, “Sorry, it just felt like my heart was going to explode.”
“Right.” You said, trying to supress a grin at how adorable he was being right now, “Consider this your warning, then.”
You tossed the bloody dishcloth into the sink and placed your hands on either side of him, looking right into his eyes as you announced, “I’m gonna hug you again, ‘kay?”
This time, when you pulled him close, Sanji’s arms moved to wrap around you too, one snaking around your waist, while the other cradled your head into his chest.
He sighed in contentment at the feeling of you against him, marveling at the way your bodies fit perfectly like puzzle pieces — like you were made just for him.
This close to him, you could feel his heart pounding a million beats per minute, and you wondered if he could feel yours racing at the same speed.
After a few minutes — or hours, you couldn’t tell — Sanji admitted, “Still feel like my heart’s gonna explode.”
You chuckled and confessed, “Mine too.”
Sanji pulled away slightly from the embrace but kept you close, not intending to let you go anytime soon now that he finally had you in his arms. A speck of insecurity was evident in his expression as he searched your eyes, looking for validation that you wanted this as much as he did. Yes, Sanji blatantly flirted with you all the time, but at this moment, faced with the real possibility of something more, he was terrified. He was scared that you would regard his actions as unserious or thought that his feelings were a mere infatuation, when in fact, it ran so much deeper than that.
Sanji started to tremble, and your grip on him tightened, steadying him. You caressed his back in a soothing motion and gave him an encouraging smile, while he observed you for another long second. Your eyes must have conveyed to him what you were too shy to profess through words right now, because Sanji inched the slightest bit forward, seemingly emboldened by what he found in your gaze.
“Can I-” He gulped and cleared his throat before trying again, “Can I kiss you?”
You felt your heart drum more erratically against your ribcage, if that was even possible. If he couldn’t feel it before, then he definitely could now.
Warmth rushed into your cheeks as you nodded. Sanji tentatively brought his hands to your face, while yours found a home on his chest. You closed your eyes as he slowly leaned in, and finally, his lips met yours.
Sanji’s kiss was gentle and soft, but electrifying at the same time. Full of passion, but also slow and unhurried, just like all these mornings you two share together.
It was everything you ever imagined, and more.
“You taste sweet,” he mumbled against your lips, “Like sugar cookies.”
He pressed his forehead against yours, still in disbelief at how lucky he was to be here, having this moment with his precious sweetheart at last.
You both were quiet for a short while before letting out relieved laughs, simply exhilarated at the thought of your long-held feelings being reciprocated.
“Can we do that again?” Sanji asked hesitantly.
You fondly laughed and reassured him, “Sanji, you can kiss me anytime you want.”
He grinned widely, before closing the gap once more. His lips had barely grazed yours when the door to the kitchen burst open, “Good morning, yo ho ho ho!”
You and Sanji immediately leaped apart from each other as if poked by a hot iron, a space far too wide for your liking suddenly materializing between the two of you.
“Ah, my apologies.” Brook said with a hand covering his mouth, though he sounded more amused rather than sorry, “Am I interrupting something?”
Your face felt like it was burning, the heat spreading quickly down your neck as you awkwardly folded your arms across your chest, refusing to respond to the musician’s question.
Sanji’s face was similarly flushed, but he also looked absolutely furious that someone dared to interrupt a scene that he had been dreaming about day and night for a very, very long time.
The cook quickly took the kettle off the burner and poured some hot water into a teapot he had already prepared earlier in the morning.
“Here’s your morning tea.” He thrust a tray with the teapot and a cup onto Brook’s bony hands, before shooing him out, “Now get out, you creepy skeleton!”
He kicked the door shut in Brook’s face and sighed, rubbing his temples while grumbling about the geezer’s awful timing, before turning back to you.
Sanji’s bashful smile slowly returned when he saw you giggling in amusement at his outburst, which, he admitted, was a tad excessive. Oh well, he’d apologize to Brook later, but right now, he had something more important to get to. And no, it wasn’t finishing breakfast prep. That could wait — he was nearly done anyway.
Your heartbeat picked up all over again as he strode purposefully across the kitchen toward you,
“Now, where were we, sweetheart?”
a/n: yes i stole that “something sweet for someone sweet” line from opla sanji - couldn't get my mind off it. anyway, all of my fics so far have been platonic (or romance-adjacent at most), so this was actually my first attempt at writing a more romance-centric fic. i hope that was okay?? feedback and constructive criticisms are always welcome!
i miss him (fictional character)
I want to see more Luffy as an almost cryptid-like figure, leaning into the fact that he's actually kind of scary and unnerving. The strange boy in an unassuming straw hat whose smile is too wide and full of teeth, always spreading across his face when he should be running in fear. Wild black hair and dark eyes that stare straight into your soul. A laugh that's born of pure delight but sounds like the dangerous cackling of a madman, making you question What He Is. A creature who can take any shape and size, who appears in places he should never be, and when faced with death simply tells it no. Threats make him grin and drawing his blood seems only to make him stronger. Always, always hungry, and loyal to those who feed his gaping maw. A harbinger of chaos everywhere he roams, as though he were its patron saint. Luffy is actually terrifying and I need that to be acknowledged.
