this is kinda cool, I might do one of these when the semester starts
Studying can be a daunting task, especially when we're not feeling motivated or don't know where to start. Luckily you are on Tumblr, where the Tumblr Studyblr community lives!
A group of individuals who share their study tips, techniques, and challenges to help motivate and inspire others.
As a member of this community, I've compiled a master post of study challenges created by Studyblr bloggers. These challenges aim to help students stay on track, improve their focus, and achieve their academic goals. So you can join in and start achieving your academic potential!
>> ๐ ๐จ ๐ญ ๐
If you know any other challenges or you've created ones yourself and want to share them, do message me with the link to the post so I can update the list! I too will be creating some, more coding-related ones as I am a coding studyblr (codeblr) blog! That's all and hope you find a challenge you'd like to start!

Hey students, hereโs a pro tip: do not write an email to your prof while youโre seriously sick.
Signed, a person who somehow came up withย โdear hello, I am sick and not sure if Iโll be alive to come tomorrow and Iโm sorry, best slutantions, [name]โ.

I loved the quiz! and the result is quite flattering haha

I got a proof wrong on an exam. No points.ย
Then, I thought about it for fifteen minutes outside of the exam, wrote it down, nailed it.ย
I showed a classmate and told him what happened. He looked frustrated. Heโd clearly had this happen before, too (havenโt we all?). ย He said, โDonโt you hate it when that happens?โ
I almost said yes. What the h*ck!? No. No, I do not hate it when I can fathom a deeply abstracted concept in mathematics. I never hate that. I the opposite of hate that. Expecting myself to immediately understand topics like this is unrealistic. Iโm proud of being able to do it at all. Who cares if I did it in the exam or within the next hour? I DID IT. Itโs mine now. I can do it whenever I want. Missing points on that problem doesnโt take the knowledge out of my brain. How dare I be taught that my knowledge is useless because I didnโt have it right at that moment. Itโs just as good now.ย
Education is not about the arbitrary numeric number ascribed to your ability to do things quickly in an arbitrary, restricted time interval. Education is about being able to do progressively more things, to understand progressively complex things.ย
Tenacity and challenging yourself far beyond your limits is a hundred times more important than getting good grades. Because, when youโre one of .4 percent of the population who possess complete knowledge on a very complex topic, nobody cares how long it took you to do it, or how well you did it the first time you tried.ย
Grades donโt discover new mathematics. Mathematicians do (even the ones who failed a basic topic in mathematics because their base way of thinking was too complex). Grades donโt advance medical research. Scientists do (even the ones who had to apply for their PhD programs 3 times in a row before they got accepted). Grades donโt make science fiction into real-world technologies. Engineers do (even the ones who dropped out of school because they wanted to build things, not talk about building things).ย
Knowledge is power. Skills are power. Grades are constructs. Never trade actual understanding for a semblance of understanding.ย
19 I 2023
this week is kinda crazy
I have a complex analysis test on saturday and the professor said that it will cover the entire semester. thank god I might get away with not knowing anything about analytic number theory lmao
I had troubles sleeping lately, it takes me about 3-4 hours to fall asleep every day. I sleep a lot during the day and it helps a bit but I still feel half-dead all the time. every time I fall asleep my brain can't shut up about some math problem
for the algebraic methods course we were supposed to state and prove the analogue of Baer criterion for sheaves of rings. I was the only person who claimed to have solved this, so I was sentenced to presenting my solution in front of everyone. the assertion holds and I thought I proved it but the professor said that the proof doesn't work, here is what I got:
he said that we cannot do this on stalks and we have to define a sheaf of ideals instead. when I was showing this I had a migraine so no brain power for me, I couldn't argue why I believe this to be fine. whenever two maps of sheaves agree on each stalk they are equal, so if we show that every extension on stalks is actually B โ M on stalks, then doesn't that imply the extension is B โ M on sheaves?? probably not, but I don't see where it fails and I'm so pissed that I was unable to ask about it when I was presenting, now it's too late and this shit keeps me up at night
I enjoy sheaf theory very much and I can't wait to have some time to read about schemes, I have a feeling that algebraic geometry and I are gonna be besties
during some interview Eisenbud said that when deciding which speciality to choose one should find a professor that they like and just do what that professor is doing lol. I feel this now that I talked some more to the guy who taught us commutative algebra. since my first year I was sure that I will do algebraic topology but maybe I will actually do AG, because that's what he's doing. is having one brain enough to do both?
anyway I'm glad that my interests fall into the category of fashionable stuff to do in math these days. my bachelor's thesis is likely going to be about simply-connected 4-dimensional manifolds, which is a hot research topic I guess. I won't work on any open problem because I'm just a stupid 3-year, not Perelman, but it will be a good opportunity to learn some of the stuff necessary to do research one day

also i'm having a quarrel with my parents, i'm afraid they will disown me or kick me out
they are anti-vax and full-blown conspiracy theorist and my mother found out i took a covid vax
the fact that my father believes the earth is flat makes me so motivated to become a full-time scientist, being the very thing they hate. then they could not undermine what i say with "what the fuck do you know, you're just a student"
my father likes you only if you agree with him and he literally tells me every time we talk that i am stupid and should go fuck myself. not that i don't say the same things to him, i do, i hate the fact that this is how this relationship works
i am aware that doing things to prove something to someone is not the way to go but up to this point it was just my goal, one of many, to be a scientist, now it feels like a necessity
One of my favorite thing Iโve learned about animals studies is that you should avoid using colorful leg bands when youโre banding birds because you can accidentally completely skew the data because female birds prefer males with colorful bands
Apparently if you put a red band on a male red wing blackbird his harem size can double
So like you can completely frick up the natural reproduction of a group of birds by giving a guy a bracelet so stylish that females CANNOT resist him
