one year ago, i thought my life was going to end.

i hated my life, i couldn’t see a way out of the hell i was living in, and i didn’t want to exist anymore. but to my surprise, i didn’t die.

i got a job. i turned a year older. i visited my friends. i had a few cigarettes. i started playing in a band. i went to some shows. i read good books. i wrote a letter to someone i admire and he took it from me gratefully. i finished my first novel. i visited a new city that felt like home. i danced, i sang, i spent hours outside. i laughed so hard i couldn’t breathe and i cried even harder. i started to heal and slowly, i started to realize that i didn’t want to die anymore.

there are so many things that i still want to do, so many things i’m excited to see and experience. and one year ago i could never have imagined how happy i would be for eight stitches and 12 months clean.
