Piranga olivacea - Scarlet Tanager
My second Scarlet Tanager, and this time it’s in my own backyard. He was very curious, and didn’t seem to be afraid of me. He’s an incredible bird.
Once this chickadee noticed me, it stood up much straighter. It’s so adorable.
Cardellina canadensis - Canada Warbler
The picture is a bit blurry. I was near her nest so she was yelling at me. She hardly sat still, but at least I got some okay pictures of her though before I moved on.
Canada Goose
They were in one of the Vernal Pools we were monitoring. They left as soon as we got to the pool.
I'm proud of you for wearing a seat belt. They grow up so fast. :')
Just a couple of mammals.
I feel so bad for a killdeer that lives near me, she lives right by a bus stop, like, literally right next to the bus stop. She's sitting on four eggs and the people that own the property she's nesting on don't care about her because "there's tons of those birds on the property." I'm just so worried that they're going to get mowed over, or taken by the kids from the bus. It's a dangerous world for a ground-nesting bird.
My first encounter with a red-breasted nuthatch was a good one. It was the morning of the Christmas bird count and I was woken up by a red-breasted nuthatch pecking at my window while my cat was meowing at it. I jumped out of bed when I saw it, I was so excited, but I guess it saw my movement through the glass because it looked directly at me just before it flew away. It was a great way to start the morning.
