Discord scams

Hello, I’ve seen this happen to I don’t know how many people already on my trip around discord. It’s a scam, you might be wondering what scam is it.

Let me explain, a user DMs you and says “oh hey can you talk? Are you busy??” And etc. when you respond they send “ok so I’ve accidentally reported you for scamming, it was someone impersonating you and I got scammed out of [insert 1000+ amount of money]”

You’d be like, woah! What?? Right? Then they proceed to tell you the ‘solution’! The ‘way to resolve this’, mind you that all of this is in *dms*, this will be important.

They tell you “I’ve already told discord it’s a scam but they say that we need to talk to the person(you) for them to explain whatever.” Then they send you a screenshot of a ‘real’ message from discord with a user attached.

You might be thinking, oh my this is the solution to not get my account banned!- WRONG.

Discord will never ask you to dm another user that claims to be staff, *never*. This user/account is a hacker that pretends to be staff to steal information and hack into your account, if the user that texted you this is someone you talk to. They could be someone paid to send this or they’ve been hacked as well, *dont* trust it.

Do NOT dm or friend this user they provide on the ss, they will ask you questions that could get them into your account.

what do I do then, boo?

Number one, email ACTUAL discord support from their website. NOT DMs, ask them “hey have I gotten reported for scamming? If so, what do I do to resolve it”. They’ll reach out soon.

Number two, check for yourself. Go to settings, then privacy and safety, lastly click the button “standing”. It will show if your account is at risk of getting deleted/if you’ve been reported. If it shows that it’s safe, you’re okay and haven’t been actually reported.
