James Dean was born on February 8, 1931, and was one of the most influential actors of the 1950s. In his five-year career, he made three major motion pictures, East of Eden (1955), Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and Giant (1956) which have been preserved in the United States National Film Registry and the Library of Congress. Today, James Dean is a lasting symbol of rebellion, youthful defiance and the restless spirit. He died in a car accident at the age of 24 in 1955.

"Bobby was the biggest star I ever knew. I've walked down the street with people like Cary Grant, big stars, but I never saw the public respond to anyone like Bobby. He had a magic. They laughed about his hairstyle in print, but the people loved it. And he did look better with his hair long. He never could understand his appeal, and he would look kind of sheepish. He had a habit of rolling his eyes, as much as to say, ‘What's up?’ when they would rush him. It was a kind of courage, a youthful idealism backed by courage that was so terribly appealing in him.” — TV host, Jack Paar
