"The Brothers Karamazov", Fyodor Dostoevsky (translated by Constance Garnett)
Fernando Savater
The heart, after agreeing with the brain to feel no more, falls to it's old habit, anyways.
The heart does not fear, but only wants --
the brain wants, too, but also knows --
When a good thing comes it will not last.
And so the heart saturates itself, in this, while the brain prepares, happy and sad in it's bitter sweet, weary of the ends that are to come --
shoring up its defenses for the time when a swelling heart grows too big, the dam eventually breaks,
and the plains of my soul will drown in anguish --
V. Rue, 2025.
First and last time. 😌
I didn't fall in love with you because I was lonely or lost, I fell in love with you because after getting to know you, I realized that I wanted to make you a permanent part of my world.
“One of the most beautiful things we can do is to help one another. Kindness doesn’t cost a thing.”
