Off topic but it frustrates me to no end that religious people always attribute my actions and achievements to God.

I am the one worked hard to achieve my goals and I will not have them automatically assigned to a higher being that's nonexistent for me. No sir or ma'am, no I will not.

'Oh, but we need God to be humble-'

Maybe your pea sized little brain needs him for that, but my hulking cranium can take the weight of the fact that I can say that I'm good, great, amazing even at something and not start claiming that I can find the cure for cancer.

Seriously. If you meet an atheist, do not automatically say that everything they've achieved is due to God.

Follow culture is bizarre

Honestly the whole 'follow and unfollow' aspect of social media is just so ridiculous to me.

I don't give a damn if you follow or unfollow me. You don't have to justify unfollowing me-chances are I won't even notice, and if I do, I won't care. You're allowed to unfollow someone without justifying it!

If you want to follow me-great! I'm thankful that you like my content enough to want to follow me to get updates. I'm really glad and no offense to you.

If you want to unfollow me but are afraid that I'll be offended, however-go ahead and unfollow me right now because I don't care and I won't be offended at all.

I prefer if you interact with my posts instead of just following! Like, reblog with or without comment and comment (which is the best thing).

You don't have to follow your mutuals just because you're mutuals. Interacting with their posts is far more valuable than just following them. A person who doesn't follow me but interacts with my posts will always be more valuable than someone who follows me but never interacts with them.

I was just rereading The Sword of Summer and TLT by Rick Riordan, and I came to parts where the Norse and Greek gods were called 'lowercase G gods,' while the Abrahamic gods were called, 'Capital G gods.'

Jeez, Rick, you really had to add that in, huh? You do realise that there are Hellenistic Pagans who view their gods as highly as Christians view their God and Muslims view Allah? Like, holy shit, you did not have to downgrade them like that. There was no need for that. No need at all.

This just reeks of blatant Abrahamic superiority, which is annoying but sadly unsurprising.

All I'm saying right now is that I can see why so many Hellenistic Pagans and Greek people hate PJO. There's nothing wrong with hating it for those reasons.

I want to draw you (Part 2)

Heather showed Vivienne her drawings. They were amazing-Vivienne loved how they portrayed her cat eyes and faerie ears, making them pop. 

‘How long have you been drawing?’

‘Well, since I was a toddler. I’m going to attend community college and major in something involving art. I just love drawing and painting-it’s my central passion. I’d die if I couldn’t draw anymore.’

‘So, drawing is the thing that calms you down?’ Vivienne said.

‘Most of the time, yeah. It doesn’t always help me, though-sometimes my emotions are so intense that even if I draw, I can’t calm down, and when I have art block, it’s the worst.’

‘Yeah, art block sounds bad if your main thing is drawing,’ Vivi agreed. ‘Um, hey, want to go get some Chinese food? Just you and me-I can pay for it.’

‘Ooh, really? That would be great! I’ll pay for my own food, though. You can pay for yours.’

They went to that great Chinese restaurant-the one with the amazing fortune cookies. Heather had been there once and she’d gotten the funniest fortune-there is money in your future-that doesn’t belong to you.

‘They have really funny fortunes, though you find generic ones too.’ she said. She started talking about the restaurant and telling Vivienne all about it, though Vivienne had been there a few times before (in glamour disguise). Still, Vivi nodded her head and pretended that she was just going there for the first time, just to hear Heather talk about it.

They ordered spring rolls and sweet and sour chicken. Heather talked about her life and family and Vivienne listened to her. 

Before she knew it, hours had passed and Heather had to go home. They exchanged numbers and she left, Vivienne staring after her. 

When Vivi returned home, Taryn asked her why she was smiling so hard, and she blinked and noticed that she was. She simply shook her head and went to her bedroom, then jumped onto the bed, squealing and giggling. Maybe life wasn’t so bad after all.

(I recently learnt that there's a short story on Heather and Vivienne in Faeries Never Lie-The Honest Folk. If I've made any mistakes in this short story, please let me know! Thanks for reading!)

Not really a part of this fandom anymore, but I grew up with the og books and never finished HoO cause it felt super OOC and it was driving me crazy. I think if I tried reading tsats or any of the other recent stuff my head would explode.

Yeah it would definitely explode. TSATS (I'm reading snippets) is like one long wild acid trip tbh.

HOW RICK PORTRAYED NYX AND GAIA

The way Rick portrays Nyx is eyebrow-raising at best, head-bashing-against-wall at worst.

Let me tell you about Nyx. She's a Primordial-not even a Titan, a Primordial.

First Generation, so powerful that she scared off Zeus himself. And she resides in Tartarus, where even the most powerful of gods fear to tread. All the monsters never mentioned her name, only called her 'Night', ALL OF THEM were scared of, even the worst ones.........

And when Percy and Annabeth finally encounter her...........she's portrayed as this foolish, crabby, whiny, woman who can easily be fooled by two demigods.

Rick is notorious for building up something exciting and then leaving it to crumble, but this one might just take the cake.

If Real Nyx sided with PJO Gaia, then Percy and Annabeth would never have survived. She's a Protegenoi-a Primordial. More powerful than the Titans, and Kronos himself took a whole book to defeat. And then she calls all her children, and then they're portrayed as dumb too. The minor gods, Nyx'x children, each more powerful than probably most of CHB put together..........

You understand what I'm getting at?

HOO is full of horrible characterisation, logic and retcons and this is just another feather in its pillow stuffing.

And Gaea-well, she could have been the grayest character ever.

She had so many good reasons to rise up and take back what's hers. Humans were destroying the planet. They were suffocating her and Pan was already dead-

and instead, all we got was a rash, screeching, morally very dark gray woman who was apparently 'too proud and took on a physical form too soon'.

It took only a few pages to defeat her. The fight was so anticlimatic, don't even get me started. Piper, only a demigod, being able to defeat an awakening primordial?

Aphrodite should've used charmspeak. She would have been powerful enough to send Gaea back to sleep. Along with Drew and Piper-that would have been a nice bonding moment, provided that those two don't fall asleep first.

How Nyx and Gaea are portrayed is really eye-twitching head-banging stuff.

One of the worst things that Jude and Vivienne did

Ok, so this is something that's never been talked about-at least I haven't seen anyone talk about it-and I really want to talk about it.

So........during TCP, Jude tells Vivienne that she wants her (Vivienne) to take Oak to the mortal world and raise him with Heather.

And Vivienne and Heather are 19 during this, they're just teenagers who are barely adults, and Vivienne agrees. Heather isn't happy about it, but she agrees in the end, and Oak isn't too bad to raise? (Not sure about the last part)

But.......moving this aside, can we talk about the fact that Jude and Vivienne put Heather and her family's life in danger?

You're probably really confused right now. Just keep reading.

We the readers and most faeries in TFOTA KNOW that Oak is the heir to the Greenbriar throne, which puts him in an incredibly dangerous position, because many people will come after him and try to kill him or use him.

Now just to be clear, this apartment isn't Vivienne's apartment. Yes, Vivi lives there, but this is Heather's apartment, it's under her name, she owns it, Heather's parents bought it for her. It's canon that Heather could kick Vivienne out if she wants to.

Jude has guards watching the apartment because it's dangerous and people could try to come after Oak in the mortal world too. And they could also come after Vivienne and Heather, and by extension, everyone and anyone that Heather cares about.

Do you see where I'm going with this now?

If Jude had guards watching the apartment, it's very likely that enemy faeries would be watching it too, and they would notice a certain pink haired mortal girl living with the important heir of Elfhame, and they'd take note and observe her and her movements, and her parents and friends and everyone she cares about.

The faeries could've killed Heather and her family. Having Oak there may have taken him out danger (he was relatively safe) but it put Heather and by extension everyone she cared about in a whole lot MORE danger.

THIS in my opinion was the most horrible thing that Jude and Vivienne did in the series.

I'm not sure if Holly Black thought about this while writing TFOTA-I don't think she did, but I did, so I'm sharing it with you.

Let Nico speak Italian

One thing that bothered me when I reread The Tower of Nero was Nico only speaking Italian when he's really upset.

Nico only speaks Italian when something really bad has happened and he feels bad........so Italian is associated with something horrible happening.

But why does he only speak Italian when he's really upset? Why can't he just speak Italian normally? What's wrong with it? What's the reason to make him speak his mother tongue only when he's extremely emotionally distressed?

Taken on its own, it's not particularly bothersome to me, but when it's combined with Rick's other instances of racism, it's extremely annoying.
